went looking for vids on Jameson as he passed away today, thanks for this
It's honestly baffling that this video -can't speak for the others since i haven't watched them yet- is viewed by mere hundreds only. Appreciate the effort, research, and time you put into it, dear fellow. Would love to see you hit high mile stones
Thank you very much! I appreciate the support! 🙏
You are so brilliant! I learn soooo much from your channel! 👌👏🙏
That hotel is insane! Compelling.
soo well explained ! another amazing vid
thank you for this video, I’m only two minutes in but paused to comment, as it’s clear how much effort you’ve made to make this a really digestible video for even those unfamiliar with some of the terms. Subscribed, keep going.
Thanks so much for this comment and for the support!
great video!! definitely going to give Jameson a read!
Thank You! I had an assignment on this text and was having trouble with it and your video really helped me!
Glad it helped!
I’m glad to hear you refer to the text as “dense.” I barely read it during art school in the 90s, and now I’m rereading it and I find myself constantly stopping and annotating the footnotes in the margins. Tedious but rewarding.
I just found your channel and I’m so excited to watch every video.
Aww thank you so much! That comment made my day!
Fascinating!
This video was randomly suggested on my homepage and I am so glad I watched it. Great video, will check out your other stuff too.
I’m glad you enjoyed the video and It’s good to know the algo is suggesting my videos! 😅
Thanks again for the video on this ultra abstract concept on art movement. It's an on going learning and understanding what it all means.
fantastic video!!! well done!!! ❤
I read it in my 20's around aboutv1980, and it never ceases to amaze, how it continues to influence and helps navigate the complete surreal nightmare we now inhabit.
Great video and one that prompted a further discursive response:
Art production and technique and their place in the cultural logic of capitalism probably bears some discussion here, as the shift towards the commodification of art making and its materials itself brought about a turn from "art" to disposable "craft". From the expansion of standardized art curriculum to paint-by-numbers techniques to the newly affordable mass production of previously precious supplies, the logic of mass production cast a reifying spell upon the cultural logic of mid-century capitalist culture. Warhol's shoes (and all the screen printed works) attempt to gesture explicitly to this change.
Very interesting video, I would also add that the atomic bombings had an impact in post-modernism and also the Cold War. Everything could end any minute, do the historical "pursue of truth through effort" that we see in art and architecture (pointy skyscrapers represent the "truth" with their tips and how they keep building up to that, like the Chrysler Building) switched to "everything is the truth" in post-modernism, and if anything is the truth, then you are not entitled to say it's not the truth and that's how we get debatable art and architecture (this is coming from a guy that loves classical art jejeje)
So I think that taking into account social issues also impacts post-modernism, not only economical situations 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
worth emphasising that the Bonaventure Hotel in the example given is like a bunch of off-the-shelf replications because that's the cheapest way to produce it amid falling profit rates
I cannot put in words how much I love, love, love this video 😭❤. Wishing you the best of luck for future milestones (the context quality is amazing!!).
Thank you so much! ☺️
Brilliant video, bro! 👍
Appreciate the love 🙏
So interesting!!
so fire thank you
Thanks that helped, been struggling with the book for a month now. Not sure Jameson is right to compare Van Gogh's working boots with Warhols dancing shoes, apart from the fact that both pictures deal with footware I don't see how they are directly comparable, never mind attaching modernist and postmodernist labels to them, that seems to muddy the waters even more. Van Gogh may have his place in art history, but will Warhol?
"...The impasse that paralysed Cobain in precisely the one that Fredric Jameson described: like postmodern culture in general, Cobain found himself in ‘a world in which stylistic innovation is no longer possible, where all that is left is to imitate dead styles in the imaginary museum’.”
Mark Fisher, Capitalist Realism: Is There No Alternative?
Great book! I need to make a video on it actually!

Perhaps we don't do things that are very new and different because we have already explored the envelope of what is possible with our historical, political, cultural and technological context. We've already explored the extremes of both the real and abstract possibilities. Postmodernism rehashes the past because modernism has exhausted the possibilities.
Metamodernism vid. Pls.
wtf is this nonsense
