On a Fender Geddy Lee Signiture Jazz Bass I tested the difference between the Fender High Mass & Fender old school stock bridges. Bass plugged directly into the mixing board. Volumes & Tone controls on the bass are all the way up. No effects on the input channel except a little compression.

Tone On A Budget Hartke LH1000 Bass Amplifier
Hello! Im a keyboardist and im wondering if the keys are long enough to step on them with both the heel and tip of the foot, using the normal organ foot movement technic? Thanks
100% Guaranteed, that it may or may not make a difference!
LOL
Wow, Greg, first an Oberheim TEO-5 demo, now a Sterling 5-string, another instrument I’m mildly tempted by. I am curious. Do you play synth bass a la Ray Manzarek (I know he played a Piano Bass, not a synthesizer)? That’s a skill I’ve been trying to hone for 27 years now.
Typically I play string bass but I have a Moog Subsequent 37 & Minitaur bass synth that I will be revewing in the near future. On stage I play electric bass, keyboard synths & pedal synth.
Awesome!
It’s November 2024. I purchased an analog emulation synthesizer this past spring, the Hydrasynth Explorer. All the same and as much as I dig it, I’m also deeply tempted by the TEO-5 (which I affectionately call the Thomas Elroy Oberheim Five). In a classic give-and-take fashion, something which you know about having both models yourself, there are things each of them can do that the other cannot. ARP almost got in on this neverland of analog polyphonic synthesizer design, right before they folded as a business in 1980. The model that was supposed to keep them afloat, the Chroma, ended up being distributed by CBS Musical Instruments as a Rhodes product. Its architecture almost literally brings this method of synthesis and patch memory storage to a logical extreme, between having 16 notes of polyphony, multitimbral functionality and what might be the inaugural matrix modulation array.
@Shred_The_Weapon as versatile as the Hydrasynth is, it cannot copy the sound of the TEO-5. It can get close with the pads but not perfect. The Oberheim is its own little beastie!
Opie😂😂😂
@imforfun1 LOL I have no idea what that means in regards to this review.
I had to put my TEO-5 away for a few days, after having it for over a month and non stop sound designing I was slowing down on making beats. Not that it's a bad thing just that it's almost endless at the possibilities you're able to achieve sonically with the Oberheim. I'm very satisfied with my synth.
Could you please recommend an analog synth that works with it?
Any analog synthesizer with "MIDI in" funtionality. I control software synths with it plus several other synths that are & have been here. Deepmind 6, Novation Bass Station II, Oberheim TEO-5, Moog Subsequent 37, Moog Minitaur, Ensoniq SQ1 Plus, just to name a few. The controller works great. I am still looking for a road case for it though so I can safely transport it to gigs.
@BassHappy64 Thank you so much, I'm thinking minitaur. Again thank you Sir. And then for the demo, my choice fell on the mojo just cus og this video
The Minitaur is totally compatable. You can even switch through Minitaur's 128 presets using the Mojo's on board foot buttons. Use the function button to put it in program mode then the up/down buttons to move through the presets.
@BassHappy64 love you dude, thank you so much. This will take me up a level
What about the beringer poly d? Can I get a similar effect as from the minitaur? Then I could also play the keys directly during bass less parts. Would it possi le to connect all three, you think? Either all together or with like a ABY feks?
Move your mic a little further from your mouth too much breathing noise.😊
I don't use that mic anymore.
Good video but brother you need a better mic or back off of it.
Waaaay cool!
Very pertinent evaluation, thank you
You're welcome!
Great review mate. I own and love this bass
I really need to snag this synth. Maybe it'll be my Christmas present this year to myself 😂. I was going to mention that I love that you've got the Rick in the background and then you mentioned you're a huge Rush fan too! SAME! Rush is the reason I started getting into music 👍. Best band ever
Rush not only inspired me to be a musician in 1978 but it was & still is Geddy Lee who causes me to push my musicianship to higher levels. I just turned 60 & I am still a student of Rush. Let me also say that with the Oberheim TEO-5 (if you don't already own an OB synth), you will be able to program & cover a lot of Rush material that would otherwise not be possible with other synthesizers.
@@BassHappy64 I'm half your age but still influenced by Rush in the same way. Geddy's book was fantastic btw if you haven't read it yet (but I'm sure you have 😄 ). You're not wrong about Oberheim. I've got a Moog Grandmother currently and that covers a lot of Geddy's leads/some low taurus pedal stuff. A friend of mine has an OB-X8 and I've had the opportunity to jam on it a few times. The Oberheim sound is unlike anything else!
@@ryanjavens The Grandmother is a cool mono synth. I use a Subsequent 37. Its built off the Little Phatty platform which is what Geddy replaced his MiniMoog with.
Great video.. what did you use to get the factory nut off the neck ??? Thanks..
you need mic
Is the mic level to low?
I think it's more about sound quality. I agree that a better microphone would make the video much more enjoyable.
Love from India 🇮🇳 ♥️
😳
got the same one. they stopped in 2019. ,date stamped on the back of my headstock. 2019. ,i got rid of that piece of shit bridge. ,hipshot A style bridge. 3/4" spacing. have a good day
I wish the price of these wasnt $500 Im enticed by the look n a buddy who plays a steinberger guitar n swears by them
It plays & sounds decent for what it is but it is not the Steinberger of old. Is it worth $500? That is up to the player to decide. I like it because its light & small. Great for practice & small stages. The one issue I run into is when transporting in its gig bag, people think that I'm carrying a rifle.
Thank you for this fantastic tip! Just ordered the Deluxe model with thumbrest now. Victor Cito Borge(Norway)
You are quite welcome Victor!
How do you carry this to gigs? What if the keys get entangled/stuck to something and break?
I have been looking for a case or padded gig bag for it. For right now I'm just very careful when I transport it.
You are champion sir nice review and setups I was wondering about sustain as well and I couldn’t figure out what it was but is so crucial for tool songs
Hi, I have a Classic SVT 410 cabinet . Do you think it can handle the lh1000 on bridge mode ?
The SVT410HLF is rated as a 4 ohm 500 watt cabinet. The LH1000 in bridge mode puts out 1100 watts into a 4 ohm load. That amp will blow up a SVT410HLF.
@@BassHappy64 actually my cabinet is the svt410 he, 500w 8 ohms . The LH would deliver 750 woudnt it ?
@Vinigambetta yes that is correct. The LH1000 delivers 750 watts when bridged into an 8 ohm load. If you are conservative with the volume, the amp will power that cab fine but I would be worried about the peaks damaging the speakers.
Yes I noticed a difference. I noticed a high mass bridge makes my bass slightly heavier than it already is.
Hi! Is this loud enough to a gig?
Wow, Sounds like a @FearFactory Intro's
I just bought a jem jr. used in white. it's fine but what's with the super high nut? I own gibson, kramer, jackson, other Ibanez, bc rich, fender, prs and others. none are that high at the nut. can I just buy a lower nut I mean so the strings will be lower at the first frets. I like low action and this would help the overall action. it's like 3 times to high. I will have to file down the groove were the strings sit or file down the wood under the metal nut but I dont like that because it wood mean it's stronger and I would take a lot off. all other guitar I have are 3 times lower, I would expect this on a Walmart guitar or something. I very suprised by this on a Ibanez. realy sucks. sorry for the bad spelling I am french. If I can get a lower one please give me the link for the righ one... anyone thanks.
@christineblack4654 wow! This example reviewed here did not suffer from that issue. Its action was quite low across the entire fretboard. Perhaps its not a factory nut.
@@BassHappy64 ya maybe or the made a mistake lol
Sounds awesome. Cheers from Morocco
Hey, I’m a bassist from the Chicago area too. I’ve been enjoying watching some of your videos today. I’d like to get some bass pedals too I’m looking at the Roland PK-5A in particular. Have you seen Behringer’s Toro synth? It seems pretty faithful to the original and I think I’d get that over a Mini Moog. If you get your hands on one I’d like to hear your thoughts. By the way, I love your Rick. I’m hoping to get one of my own soon too! Cheers!
Hi Ross. Good to see another Chi-Town bassist. I would not trust the Behringer Toro to hold up for gigging. It would be fine for the home studio though. I'm looking at the Moog Minitaur. More features, way better built & it has 128 presets that can be instantly recalled using the switches on my MojoPedals. Its completely compatible. The only drawback is the price. The Minitaur is quite a bit more than the Toro but, you get what you pay for. For me, that's the way to go. Oh... Get a Ric! You will not regret it. Nothing sounds or plays like them. Mine is my number one bass followed by my Geddy Lee Signature Jazz Bass!
Very creative visual modification. Looks beautiful with revealed tubes.
Thank you!
Hi from Australia I totally enjoyed your review I'm looking at buying one of these in the candy apple I did have a 216 model and the neck was really nice I'm just wondering would the 211 and the 216 be the same Thanks David 🇭🇲👍🇭🇲👍
My guess is there would be some differences in craftsmanship & tone between a 2011 & 2016. Plug it into a good amp & play it. That's the only way to tell if its worth a sh**!
Hello, Concerning your third grip, it's easy tu turn one of the 5 LFOs into 64 steps sequencer.

What type of washers do I purchase to fix that issue with the tuners?? And where do I pick them up?? I’m an Absolute Beginner and I’m currently in the process of saving up My money to purchase a Steinberger Spirit Bass. Where did You purchase Yours at?? And what’s the model??

La mejor version de todos los hofner que inventaron. Ni muy grave como el presicion, ni tampoco muy pasado de agudos como los jazz bass
I am very sorry but I don't speak or read your language. I only understand English so, I am unable to respond to your comment.
I pulled 2 power tubes out of my Bugera 1960 Inf. and it's still loud!
Yep, that dang thing is one of the loudest guitar amps I have ever played.
the fake microphone has no filter to minimize the sputtering noises. for someone who needs a professional recording a counterfeit is highly unacceptable.
The Deluxe is awesome. 2x synth engines is fantastic. The random voice panning along with all the extra goodies in the 2.0 firmware are fantastic.
10.4 pounds...what a pity...
It is a little heavy!
Don't they produce them in China? And Mex?😂 Are there any fake Mex SM 58 around ?
I have never heard of a Mexican SM58 clone. Only Chinese.
I got mine as a bit stock with a broken string but mine is very nice. With the new string totally playable out of the box. The action isn't the lowest but nice. Could be lowered easily at the nut. Great frets. A little quiet acoustically but all of them this size aren't very acoustic. It's why they invented the standup bass. Mine is the violin burst and it's also very good looking.
Taurus Moogs have humidity problems and often need to be turned on in humid weather. The fact is that with the Midi you can do whatever you want with the Taurus you can only do the sound of the Taurus. I had the Roland PK 5 A and I really regretted selling it because it was really well made. I'm undecided between Studiologic and Crumar.
All of the old Moog stuff is like that. The oscillators drift with heat & humidity.
With the nut replacement did you have to do anything about the first fret action? Was it the same height between the original and the new nut?
I did not have to do anything with the nut. Once fitted & glued in, it was ready to use.
I just picked up an NOS of this exact bass this week. Yes, it's a Chinese bass, but it's 2/3's of the real deal for 8% of the price. I'm going to upgrade her, make it my own, and pretty happy overall.
Hi Mass! Big difference, more definition, more hi and clear low !
I agree with you here. Anyone who hasn’t had problems has been lucky. The poor workmanship on the board is testimony to that. I’ve always bought dynacord in the past. Apart from Soundcraft prior to that. They sounded great but sliders and sound from one side packed in after around 18 months. My unpowered Dynacord 600 has worked flawlessly for the past 15 years. Are the latest Dynacord’s made in China however these days? I’m not sure 🤔
Loctite? Grease? 🤔🙂
Neither were necessary
Lock Tight? Grease? 🤔😠
Neither were necessary
The Hydrasynth is so cool! Very different from the upcoming Oberheim TEO-5 but I've been agonizing over which to spend my money on lol. Thanks for sharing your first impressions on this!
I have been eyeing the TEO-5 as well & I'm sure that at some point I will get my hands on one. The Hydrasynth is a really impressive synth. It does a lot. My only gripe right now is it's lack of polyphony. 8 voices seems pretty lean for a digital synth. Other than that, I'm pretty impressed with it. A more comprehensive review is coming so stay tuned. Thanks for watching & thanks for the comment.
@@BassHappy64 oh wow, I must have glossed over the 8 voice part. I think because it's digital I didn't even consider to look at the number of voices but that's a big let down for sure. Thanks for sharing that! It's making the TEO sound a little more appealing 😎
@@ryanjavens I just reviewed the Oberheim TEO-5. I like it a lot! The video is up here on my channel.
@@BassHappy64 thanks for the heads up! I’ll give it a watch 🤙
