A fun climb with a tricky sequence down low over some small gear, then a splendid hand crack to the chains.

Watch to the end for a good whipper, 10' from the chains. Top 5 climbs I've ever done (I'm a sucker for finger cracks). This route is an amazing 160' finger crack. Most of the climbing is 5.10 /5.11- up to the last 30' before the chains. It starts to thin out, and the last 10' is the crux, with barely-there feet and tips jams leading to a crimp to clip the anchors. My feet hurt incredibly bad f...

A really awesome sloper-roof problem. A big first move leads to some tensiony movement on poor slopers to a gnarly mantle over the bloc.

A great tower with some fun climbing the whole way. I suck at wide climbing so this thing was pretty tricky for me

An awesome thin-hands crack on a 45 degree overhang. Although its only a few moves, its a blast. The lower start adds 1 or two moves and is V7 and looked henious.

    First, you have excellent stamina! No way I could I have held those positions on the rock for as long as you did while calmly plugging gear. Second, that's a 10a??? Looked way more difficult than that in the second half. The Devil's got high standards for sure. Good job keeping your head and getting the 'scend.

      Thanks! Haha, I think it looks a bit steeper than it is in the video, its a bit slabby so you can really trust the feet and try to relax. I will say that this route felt pretty sandbagged to me compared to other .10s on the tower. And the second pitch is a 140' fist crack that is SOOO brutal. The Tower will show you how real 5.9 feels haha.

    I remember doing this climb in "91. We started on the Green Dragon. It was a really fantastic route. I think the Green Dragon start made the slabby exit from Mr. Natural a little less intimidating. Although I did take a couple of falls on the Dragon. Highly recommend.

      I need to spend like 4 months in Yosemite. I just am so bad at slab climbing, and I think hopping on a ton of slab there would make me a much better climber.

      @@bradfordLburns I grew up climbing at Tahquitz and Suicide rocks. There` were a lot of thin slab climbs so that's what we did.. Slab climbing was frowned upon by some as the grades grew and steep climbs were all the rage. Still the delicate dance of thin smears can be good fun.

    noticed you’re climbing with the unparallel shoes. how do they stack up to grandstones and nyad far as fit? 5.10 fit my foot best and i’ve been curious about this exact model, but nobody stocks them locally

    • @bradfordLburns
      @bradfordLburns Місяць тому

      Yeah, I used to use the unparallel UP Rise Pro before getting the La Sportiva support. I did enjoy these shoes, specifically for crack climbing when it involved hand cracks or wider, they edge pretty nicely too. I used to have a pair of the grandstones in a size 8.5, and I got a pair of the UPRISEPRO in 8.5 as well I believe, and they were much tighter. I recall the grandstones breaking in nicely and becoming much more comfortable. My UP's never felt like they broke in much, and they barely stretched at all because they are pretty much dipped in rubber. I think my biggest complaint with those shoes are that the toe point was very "dull", as in, it was not very pointed and precise with the toe. I felt like they did not edge as well as they could've because it was hard to be precise with the big round toe. Also it was hard to fit in pockets. Lastly, the shoe had a big profile, so it was really hard to get jammed into thin cracks or anything smaller than 1.5 camalot cracks. I exclusively use the TC pro, Katana, or miura VS for crack climbing now

    • @mr.apartment
      @mr.apartment 27 днів тому

      haha that’s funny, i wear 8.5 as well. thanks for the beta. the dull toe is actually something i noticed in the pics and wondered about. my feet scream in the tc pro for some reason. those grandstones have been great but looking for something a bit stiffer and was curious. thanks!

      Thanks! Its 180' (50m) tall. I had a rap tag line attached to my harness to rap down. I think I was climbing on a 70m rope though, so had plenty of rope left. What do you mean test the cam placements, like crank on them with my hand? I usually do that with stoppers (it also helps them get into better placements), but I don't do this with cams unless its in a suspect placement. Normally I can tell how good a cam is just by looking at it. Nice! I'll be down in Brazil in just a few months!

      I can't remember super clearly, I think there is a separate rap line to the left, or you can rappel the route. I think the party ahead of us skipped the last pitch or something and rappelled a pitch early and used the normal Rap stations, but I can't recall specifically. The day that we did this climb, it wasn't very busy, however, I have heard that this climb can become an absolute gong show with 10000 parties climbing and rapping ontop of eachother. It's an incredible climb, however!

    You rockin the Katanas?

    • @bradfordLburns
      @bradfordLburns 2 місяці тому

      The Miura VS! The Miura VS are my go-to sport climbing shoe for anything techy, vert, or slightly overhung. If the route is pretty steep but still has some techy feet and edging required then I use my Testarossa's, and if its super overhung/roof climbing than I use vegan Skwama's. I use TC pros mostly for trad climbing and any multipitch, but occasionally use my Katana's for single pitch trad climbing. I have a pair of the women's katana's, and I like them, but they just don't fit my feet as good as other shoes. The Katana's are made for slightly more narrow feet, and my forefoot is pretty wide, so I fit the Miura VS, Skwama, and Testarossa really well. Shoes like the katana and Otaki don't fit my feet as well. I have a ton of other shoes from working with La Sportiva, so I'd be happy to comment on my experience with solutions, cobras, miura lace, theory, solution comp, or any others if you're interested.
