Installing Road King Turn Signal Idiot Lights
This is a video that I made of my project to install supplementary turn signal idiot lights on my 2009 Harley Davidson Road King.
The Road King has a design based on 1950s motorcycle design so the idiot lights (indicator lights) are located underneath the speedo on the tank which makes them hard to see. This project adds a supplementary pair of lights on the handlebar nacelle.
If you have the same problem I hope it helps. Feel free to post comments/questions below.
Let me know if you manage to do this yourself on your bike.

How to install a GPS on a Harley Road King using the Fender Tip Light

I think the RS part number I used was 362-8869. Thank you for making this video - excellent content! When you filmed this nearly eight-years ago, I bet you didn't think it'd be valuable to someone this far down the road. 🙃 Fortuitous timing, though, because I'm in the market for a Stadler, and sent in my measurements this morning. I'm undecided between a model from the "Modul EVO" line and another from their "Modul Active." You were so thorough, which I greatly appreciate because you've helped me decide. May I ask if you still have yours and, if so, is it holding up well and do you still love it? Thank you again.

      Thank you. Yes, I still have the jacket and matching trousers although I'm not riding as much as I used to. I was doing about 3,000 miles a year, but now only doing 2 or 300. The jacket still works like new. The biggest test that I gave it was a tour through europe where I did 2,000 miles in one week. It was mostly very hot and the suit was great in the heat. But let's be honest, no jacket can stay cool when you are stopped at the lights when it's 35 degrees. One small downside with the mesh trousers was that it didn't protect me from the heat from my engine enough (harley davidsons are pretty bad for this though). I also endured a really torrential rain storm in Italy where there were literally large waves of water hitting me and I didn't get wet at all - which surprised me to be honest as I wouldn't have minded if it had leaked a bit compared the massive downpour. I don't know about the alternatives, but I don't think that you would be disappointed with this suit.

      @@motorbikestuff594 Thanks so much for your reply; that's incredibly reassuring to hear. Longevity is a key part of the decision-making process, and the fact that you've had it this long and put it through its paces as you have, speaks volumes. Also interesting about Harleys because that's what I ride. I'm also keen on their "Supervent 3" (MotoLegends has a great review) because it seems as though it'd provide greater seasonal ability, although I live in the Southeast Coastal US where it's hot as hell most of the year haha. Thank you again, and safe (and happy) riding. ✌🤘😎

    Re running the power down; The Zumo can be either removed or turned off via the power button and the Zumo will not run down your batter. Just put battery terminal connectors on the power supply cable and Bob's your uncle. While that was very cool, it was not necessary.

    I can't believe you're the only one that's done this on UA-cam... it was one of the first things I did after I got my Road King looking down in traffic at speeds is such an accident. waiting to happen. I cut out a piece of metal painted gloss black... it only stuck above the the handlebar bolt cover about 3/8 of an inch and then two sided taped it on so I can remove it later if I sell the bike.

    what are the 2 switched just below your turn signal lights for? the 2 black switched on the handlebars just in front of the fuel tank. I know the right one turns on and off the 2 headlights to either side of the main headlight but what is the one on the left for? mine does not stay up or down but rather returns to the center position when release.

    thanks for your time and insight with the video!!! I just done an install on my 2016 Road King and used the fender light connector that wasn't being used (I believe the connector can also be used for the 12v handlebar power port). I didn't even have to remove the headlight to find it, a stroke of luck I suppose. Any way I ordered the MX-150 2 wire male receptacle from this gentleman, and came out with a nice clean install. The female receptacle I had to mate up (original connector, the one on my bike)to was part #34062. The power is only hot when she's running so no worries about a dead battery. www.cycleterminal.com/molex-mx150.html Garmin Zumo 396 LMT-S... As an option to purchasing a Garmin GPS, you can take a hand-me-down cell phone and simply use the Google Maps spp; Even without a SIM card. The GPS portion of the phone still works, even without cellular service, and for free. Then dedicate the phone as your motorcycle GPS.

    I bought a Standler jacket two years ago. It's main front zip torn. I want to fix it. When I went to reseller (MOTOMAX in Turkey), they said you should talk with Stadler. How could I made it fixed? I don't want to throw that much expensive jacket because of zip problem and it's design fault, not mine. Nice jacket they have. But there is no service available or an answer for your emails. In two years, front main zip started not to work anymore and suprisingly torn. I said okey It could be, they were saying it's guraanteed for ten years. But when I talked the place which I bought they said you should talk with Stadler. I wrote them (yes I saw, they are saying that contact with reseller; but reseller -MOTOMAX- is not accepting.) but couldn't get an answer. Good jacket with small flaws but realy bad service; a small problem made over 1000€ jacket been unusable.

    Would be easier to "splice" the Garmin red/black wires directly to the Harley red/black wiring instead of buying the multi lock tang crimp connectors. Also, the Road King has an accessory on/off switch. Can attach Garmin wires to the accessory switch to power the GPS.

    I've been looking at this jacket for almost 2 years now... unfortunately, I still haven't made the decision of buying it yet. This video did help a little bit. But I must say, when you said there are a lot of options in textile jackets, you were only partially correct. Resurgence is the only one that makes Pekev lined jackets. So there is technically not much options available to us in terms of Pekev textile jackets unfortunately. Not that I have anything against Resurgence... it's just that without competition, there tends to be price markup which is especially annoying. The thing that prevents me from just buying one is the fact that I can't just try it on and find out if it fits well or not. And $400 CAD + shipping is a lot of money for a gamble. I wish they would sell the jacket in more local stores, especially in my city where all the jackets they sell are garbage. I might be going to Quebec this summer, so maybe I might have the opportunity to check them out on the way to my friend's place and decide then. But until then, I'm stuck with my current jacket which is falling apart at the seems everywhere even though it's never been in an accident.

    Is the Pekev lining the same as that used in the CE - homologated Voyager jeans, or is it less/lighter/thinner? Also, may I ask how much this weighs with protectors? Mesh jackets typically weigh around 1.5 kg (but offer very little protection) while leather and mesh jackets around 2.6kg (in both cases with elbow shoulder and back armour), so I wonder how this compares. Thanks!

    • @motorbikestuff594
      @motorbikestuff594 8 років тому

      Hmmm, not sure about the lining. I am assuming it is the same, but I'm also fairly sure it doesn't cover the whole jacket - which is good as I have the voyager jeans and although they are very good they are slightly like wearing carpet. Weight? - not sure either, but my impression (I own about 6 motorcycle jackets both leather and textile) is that it is the lightest jacket I've got, even with armour in it.

    • @ukuserful
      @ukuserful 8 років тому

      Thanks! Actually, I have just noticed that Resurgence 's website claims this is their only jacket fully lined with Pekev. Do you mean the Voyager jeans are heavy (I'd expect CE-level 2 jeans not to be lightweight!) or that the lining scratches the skin?

      +Simon England This is the Concept jacket. I haven't checked the website lately, but I think that the difference is that the Concept has cordura 2000 on elbows and shoulder and the Destiny has cordura 500 in the same places. It's hard to find good data, but I think cordura 500 is not as good as leather and 2000 is better. I didn't see both jackets, just went on the spec differences.

    • @simonengland4883
      @simonengland4883 8 років тому

With the 660 the cable is about a meter long and incorporates plugs for microphones and speakers which I wont be using as I will be pairing it up to my helmet via Bluetooth. I've just got a Garmin Zumo 660 off Santy for my 15 Road King and i've been wondering which would be the best power source to use.I don't fancy taking the tank off to go from the battery, so the fender tip wiring seems like a good idea. Is there any way you could provide the part numbers for the connector and terminals from RS components? I've had a look, but there are loads of different types.Was there any reason why you decided not to use the accessory switch on the opposite side to the driving light switch ?

    • @motorbikestuff594
      @motorbikestuff594 8 років тому

      +Jack Lee Thanks. I didn't use the accessory switch for 1 main reason. I already have a parade fan on that. I still could have done it, but didn't want the hassle of turning it on and off. You need to check if your bike has the wiring already in it. If so the plastic part is already there. The only part you need to buy is in the description of the video. Good luck.

Couple questions, is that jacket black or olive green version, its bit hard to tell since i haven't seen all the colour versions of that jacket anywhere on internet (and there is no resellers in my country so can't see it live either). Cut looks also pretty slim, i am bit heavier build then you (and slightly overweight), just wondering would it be tight on beer belly area =). By the way what height are you? And on what temperatures would you use it. Thanks!

      Rami Tiihonen Thanks very much. 1. I would say it's olive green, I didn't know there was a black one. 2. I would say a slim cut, however I would like it to be a bit slimmer as with just a t-shirt underneath it's a little less snug than I would like. 3. I am about 176cm/5ft 10. 4. Temperature-wise I have used it from about 12-14 degrees upwards with warm layers underneath, but I have a big windshield on my bike. I believe that motolegends are now a stockist of resurgence and they have a generous returns policy so you could maybe try before you buy that way. Good luck!
