    Did the seal change of the video before was not sucessful? Where did you get the teflon/copper seal ring from?

    • @dailyingxm
      @dailyingxm 26 днів тому

      Yes and no. I broke the seal because I had to disassemble the rack twice, first I didn't remember to put the o-ring in place, which can be seen at the 8:30 mark in my first DIRAVI video. After reassembling the rack I checked that everything was as it should be and then I found out that I had put the plastic washer on the wrong side so I had to take the rack apart again. Unfortunately this was too much for the Teflon seal or I wasn't careful enough and it broke. The new teflon o-ring was made by a Finnish company called Top-osa. I tried to look for the receipt for you, but I couldn't find it. I think it might have been bronze filled PTFE as they list that material on their website. The main reason for me using it was simply that it was still much cheaper to order a custom made o-ring than another seal kit for just one seal. If you like, I can give you a link to the CX workshop manual which lists all the o-ring dimensions.

      @@pierresimenc2343 It has been great ever since. I've heard that if the pistons are pitted or scored, new seals won't last long. Some people have also said that the O-rings are a bit small from the factory and that makes them leak easily, but I personally can't confirm that. If I remember correctly, I have read that some people have even resurfaced old pistons if they were not too bad. I made a community post and there is a link to a section taken from a CX workshop manual that goes over reconditioning the DIRAVI.

    Where did it leak? My ZPJ4 will probably need a change of the notorious O-rings on the block behind the flywheel.

    • @dailyingxm
      @dailyingxm 2 місяці тому

      It was leaking from the rear cam seal, timing cover, oil temperature sensor, right main seal, but the worst was the rear main seal. Occasionally it would leak on to the exhaust pipe and make a mildly embarrassing amount of smoke. With the ZPJ4 it should be easier, as you can just remove the gearbox without removing the engine? I've heard that even on the 4hp18 it's possible to change the main oil seal without pulling the engine.

      Thank you! IMHO XM is still an unbelievable car to drive. Hydractive combined with the DIRAVI is such a joy to drive. It has also become a sort of personal challenge to get this car as far as I can, as I have heard that Citroens and French cars ingeneral are weak and won't do high milage. This is now my third year of ownership and I have now done 30k km with it. Depends on what counts. Keep in mind that this car sat for over ten years before I bought it and I paid 300€ for this fine machine :D Leaking DIRAVI was quite annoying to fix and this transmission issue that I'm having. Bit of a spoiler, but the Lubeguard additive helped with the noise, but I have a sneaking suspicion that the transmission is eating itself alive. Still it has never let me stranded.

      @@dailyingxm It´s all just about when you will finally give up. :) But you can always get another hydropneumatic Citroen in better overall shape afterwards :) I believe 90s and earlier 2000ish PSA especially diesel cars are pretty overall tough and still simple-ish enough. What kills it in time is corrosion (as like on any other car), big lack of maintenance (as like on any other car) and if it has too fancy electronics. I am mostly impressed how smart the whole hydropneumatic system works and what it all does once you learn a bit more about it´s functions, also how well made and decently reliable my old-ass V6 XM is, considering all the very unique and weird technical solutions on it, not simple electronics without easy ways how to diagnose it and it beeing overall 32 years old. It has much less kms then yours, but I also payed much much more for the car (and I shouldn´t have). All I am fighting with is neglection by the years, corrosion and of course some rubber hoses, bushes, seals, bearings etc., but nothing too major as a engineers faults, bad solutions or low quality. I don´t use it daily or in the wet or winter, it´s a garage queen tho. Me personally I would love to have more modern Citroen "XM" in a VAN or MPV version (with the same hydropneumatic solutions for suspension, Diravi etc.), as I need it for my work and as it is the most practical type of car one can have. Unfortunatelly, theres nothing like that. What gets the closest to it maybe are Sevel Nord Vans and MPVs, but very remotely and with no such hydropneumatics and design solutions, so not good enough...

    that seems like its the brake band squealing, had the same thing on my 4hp18, i had to change the oil about 9 times in a row to get all of it looking new which helped, but didn't completely fix it, i then adjusted the brake band on and that completely fixed it for at least the 2 1/2 years that i owned that car afterwards, it's a fairly easy job to do, but i'm not 100% sure if you can do it on all 4HP18 Transmissions, i took a guide from a german citroen forum to adjust it, if that doesn't work, the brake band is to worn to be readjusted again and will need to be replaced: To adjust the brake band (valid for 4hp14 and 4hp18): Required tools: -Allen Socket (unfortunately I don't remember the size) -ring wrench set -Torque wrench for 10 Nm Seen from below, there is a noticeable Allen screw on the rear part of the gearbox, which is secured with a hexagon nut. Carefully loosen this hexagon nut using a box wrench (it is very tight because it is held in place by a corrugated washer). Screw the Allen screw all the way in and tighten it with 10 Nm. Now loosen the Allen screw again by exactly 2 turns. Then tighten the hexagon nut again without turning the Allen screw.

This mutes the sound. If the sound comes back after the oil change, it must be added again. Should never let your car idle, you're doing more damages to the internals than you think.

    • @dailyingxm
      @dailyingxm 8 місяців тому

      Should I floor it then? Joking aside It can't be driven before hydraulics have built the pressure. You do more harm to your Citroen if you start driving immediately.

      joo, tuo jarruventtiili taitaa olla ikävin vaihdettava heti Diravin jälkeen XM:ssä. Harvemmin näissä yleensä mitään suuria on, mutta tämä yksilö on kyllä tasaisin väliajoin jaksanu yllättää aina uudella vuodolla jostain. Johtuuko se sitten yli kymmenen vuoden seisonnasta, huonosta huollosta vai peräti huoltajasta niin mene ja tiedä 😅

      That's true, I think that at least all "modern" fuel injected petrols should start below -30 with no issues.

    Yeah XM was really not a good winter car... My dad had one when I was little in sweden. Even when we kept it in the garage if we were in a rush it was not making dad happy making it wait to lift up... I sold my xantia activa v6 to a guy in finland by the way, hope it's going well there to someone :D

    • @dailyingxm
      @dailyingxm 8 місяців тому

      I, on the other hand, think that XMs among other hydraulic Citroens, are one of the winter cars that you can get. There is nothing like a hydropneumatic suspension when it comes to snowy roads. And in my case the Diravi makes it unbelievably joyful to drive in bad conditions. It shouldn't take insufferably long to rise if driven on a daily basis. That reminds me of a DS enthusiast priest who used to say that "when the hydraulics are building the pressure there is a good time to make prayer that the journey will be safe" and even though I'm not religious myself, I think the valuable lesson there is that be calm and don't be in a hurry. I bet that your old Activa is owned by someone at the Citroen club!
