My name is Donnie AKA - FL Flatsmaster. I’m a native Floridian that has spent my whole life fishing and enjoying the diverse ecosystems of the Sunshine State. I currently live and fish in the Southwest Florida region around Fort Myers, Cape Coral, and Charlotte Harbor. I always enjoy freshwater fishing for largemouth and peacock bass, but inshore wade fishing on the grass flats and any other areas where I can get my feet wet has become my specialty and passion over the past few years. I love to catch big snook, speckled trout and redfish with artificial lures on light tackle. My goal is to continue to grow my channel by producing exciting fishing content along with tips and tricks that will help fellow anglers to keep lines tight.

@PocketAALures No problem thanks for sending some great lures!
Another great video. My son and I checked out the preserve around Christmas, but the north wind was fierce, so we ended up just hiking. Heading back this month to do some snookin".
Is your rod a fast action or moderate/fast action? How would you rate the sensitivity of the rod?
@@cword8247 fast action. The rod is very sensitive. It has a Fuji skeleton reel seat so there is a lot of direct contact to the blank
Thanks for the reply. I am thinking about buying the 7'2 8-14 and the 7'2 6-12. Have you ever used the 6-12? If so, what is the actual action of it?
@ I have not used the 6-12.

@PocketAALures hey Xander thanks for the support. I love trying new lures, send me an email at djank0927@gmail.com
how do you like the 4 power rod? i purchased the 3 power, with a Stella 4K... do you feel its too big or just right?
I like the 4 power, it’s a stiff rod but I like it for throwing soft plastics and Topwaters. I wanted a 3 power 7’6 but for some reason they don’t make a 3 power in the 7’6 GCX inshore.. is the one you have the 7 footer? That’s a great setup you have with the Stella
@FLFlatsmaster thanks, yes it's a 7 foot, 3 power. I'll see how I like it. Should be fine for bass, trout, pickerel.... and inshore for stripers or blues.. Do u feel the stiffer rods are more accurate, or a wobbly tip is more accurate?
Can I get the exact location please

Love the black look but despise the gold 😅. Think im going to buy the Exsence for my expride.
@@tims_always_fishing7117 I don’t hate the gold but I don’t like it a whole lot either.. never used the Exsence but have heard it’s amazing I bet it would be great fit for the Expride
Dude...if you're going to practice catch and release fishing , you have to treat the fish better. Get a rubber net. Don't drag the fish up on shore. Walk to the edge of the water, get the fish in the rubber net. Take the lure out, wet your hands if you want to pull the fish out of the net for a picture fine then put it back in the water.
With ya' 100% on respecting the fish better. Thanks for pointing that out. Tight lines WITH a net...

Awesome to see that pond stacked like that. I’ve looked in before and just saw talapia but never fished it. Must be a culvert going out. They wanted to open it up to make those condos gulf access but weren’t allowed.
@@CharlotteHarborFisherman it was my first time fishing it, saw a ton of mullet in there too so I think you’re right there’s got to be a culvert or something.
I always wanted to try that pond but assumed they’d have “no fishing” signs and hassle me. I saw a short sign in the video. Is it what I think it is? 😅
@ probably not much to eat too, so might make the food really aggressive. Was it just a camera or did those red fish seem a little thin?
@@FloridAlaskan there are No Fishing signs lol
@@CharlotteHarborFisherman they were a bit lean. I didn’t see much baitfish around
Great video! Was soo surprised you didn't get more hung up on that tarpon. I thought for sure you'd get snagged at the very least and possibly take a swim. Anyway, just found your channel. I dig it. Am doing a trip down from Cleveland area in early May. Hope I can find some snook and tarpon in a kayak.
@@aaronkeene5744 thanks for watching and commenting! April and May are my favorite months to fish in FL you should be able to get on some
do you feel it is accurate when casting? like if u needed to cast near a log or lilly pad, you can put the lure where you need it?
@@miketorre16 it’s an accurate rod for a 7’6”. If you’re looking for the best accuracy I’d recommend a shorter rod though. This is more for throwing light lures far distances
@FLFlatsmaster I kinda like the 7 foot rods. I did just buy an IMX Pro Blue for big plugs. Big Stripers and Blues ect... so accuracy isn't that worrying but I want a GCX for my 4000 Stella FK. I have an Expride that I am accurate with, so it would be hard to find one comparable
Do you ever guide on flats trips in charlotte harbor?
@@BKlus I do not
Good review bud I'm gonna based off start of video to end of video. -Man they really tried to make this reel look the Shimano Stradic FM 😂 I don't blame them copy the best with the best designs 🔥💪🏽 ( both very good look reels ) -On a 3000 don't need 30lb braid. 30 is over kill even for pitching docks. 20 tops. -The bags that come with the reels are honestly pointless to me. Most people I know travel with them in the original boxes or they buy actual reel luggage bags to travel with. The box bags are all for show they don't do nothing but maybe prevent dust from getting in/on the reels. No physical protection at all. Those watching definitely I recommend traveling with boxes or getting a reel luggage bag. - Drag - the rod is just as important as the drag if not more so. If you don't have a good rod and don't keep that tension that fish will get off. The drag is only for when the fish takes off other then that the drag is pretty much secondary ( my list 1st rod , 2nd drag 3rd line retrieval / pick up ) -Body / Frame - I do too prefer the aluminum style reels as well. More rugged and more durable. But I do still love my ci4+ reels. ( Original Vanford was only one that sucked ). I do have one suggestion for okuma on the body / frame design it to make it a one piece frame besides the side cover and eliminate as many outside screws as possible. Should be able to get it down to one screw for the side plate. - Handle - love that it's a one piece handle. So many reels in this price point still use the junk multiple piece handle which makes for even more play in it. That small play this reel has would drive me nuts especially late fall and winter when I'm doing a lot of dead sticking or very slow slow straight retrieve. You can feel that play all day long. ( Okuma need to get that fixed. One or two shims will fix that ) The handle knob is to small for the 3k. That's a perfect size knob for 2500 and smaller. 3k reels need to have a T shape size knob or even a power knob. The cap on the knob use a little bit of plumbers tape and put in thread and should fall out again. Do you know if the drag washers are carbonfiber or felt ? Nice review over all bud. Keep it up
@@artificialslinger9730 hey thanks for watching and the feedback! When I said the drag was the most important, I meant when it comes to the reel. I know the rod is everything when it comes to fishing artificial. The drag washers are carbon fiber. This is pretty much the first iteration so I’m sure they will make adjustments as needed. I’ll make an updated video if they make any changes. Thanks for the support tight lines bro 💪🏼
Looks like a cold day out there but still caught some nice fish, good work fellas 🔥
@@SaltyRichAdventures yeah it was haha thank you!
Anything Zman. When it's winter I tend to work things much slower then most and with the plastic from.zman when you dead stick it the bait still stands up on end vs others where it falls flat and the fish cant see it 💪🏽🔥 Been ripping up trout in the 24 to 27" range the last month
Nice blue

@ That’s Great!
Love the vids! How deep was the water you were in that day? Looks like you are between the shoreline and the bar? I"ve had some success with a Z-man Houdini 3" paddle tail
@@davidlawrence327 thanks! It was around 2 ft or so for the most part. Yes I was on the inside of the bar for the most part. I haven’t used the Houdini color but I just looked it up and that looks like a great option for the flats!
@ I’m going to try your black and gold suggestion this afternoon
I was surprised to see basically no seagrass on the flat at 0:19. Has is always been that way or different now after Helene and Milton?
The shoreline here is mostly a mud flat. There was a bit more grass before Helene and Milton. The farther you go out the more grass there is.
Great color! Personally, I’ve always been partial to rootbeer with gold speckles. Also starting to appreciate other dark colors like purple/black, blue/black, etc., in low light conditions. Kind of counterintuitive at first but the darker the conditions the darker lures you want to use because it’ll silhouette better against the available light. I have a friend in Louisiana that almost exclusively throws jet black with a chartreuse tail and he does very well
@@alexanderren1097 that jet black with chartreuse trail sounds awesome I may need to try those
Great video! My boys and I went out Saturday and it was definitely cold but it keeps the other people off the water lol. Looking forward to this weekend!

@@urbanbackyardcontainergardenin felt like it was somewhere around 70* . Thanks for the support, tight lines !
Dumb question, but how are you actually "finding the deeper pockets" in such a negative winter tide like that? It seems like most of your vids start with you wading thru a channel, so is it becuase you're so familiar with that area? Or is there some signs that the water is deeper "over there"?
@@mikepound9808 there are no dumb questions! The channel I’m wading through is actually just a trail that leads out to the grass flats. It’s going to dry up soon now that rainy season is over. I am pretty familiar with the flat so I know where most of the areas are that are deeper than the rest, but I also just walk along the sandbar and stop and fish where I find pockets that seem deeper.
