A few years ago, I had to replace my overhead garage door springs and it cost around $140.00. Yesterday I noted that another spring had broken and I called for an estimate and the total cost for service call and springs would be over $400.00! They actually wanted to charge around $135.00 for each spring! I ordered the springs online and will install them as soon as they arrive. My cost? $93.79 for the two springs and $15.97 for bearing end plates. Labor? N/A

good information but less detailed as the video doesnt show clearly how do the winding bars rest and how to loosen up those tension bars. a better closeup could have been more helpful but still its informative.

Thanks for the video. At 2:26, when you're going to work on the right side, you say "...got to do is retention these springs", but then the video jumps ahead to where you are holding the winding bar up and tightening the set bolts. Were there any quarter turns that you did, and how many? . . . Also, if both sides need to be lowered evenly, could this procedure be done alternately for each side? - Or is there a whole different procedure for lowering both sides?

Use a large screw drive to cut the old gasket off, before trying to open up the track. This allows you to see where the crimps are. Spray a little silicone in the tracks, to facilitate installation of the new gasket. Crimp the ends, you’re good.

One, if you don't have a torsion spring and one if you have the two springs in the back

Thank you! The garage door was much heavier than I expected after I took that first top roller off, but once I got a feel for it, the rest of the replacement process was great. Like the commenter below, twisting the top rail by hand proved troublesome. I inserted a Phillips screwdriver into a hole in the rail and pushed it back to get the twist. 👵🏽 (I'm somewhere in-between) 👩🏾‍🔧🛠

As an acoustic guitarist, I would not recommend the cables be as tight as a guitar string - lol - perhaps a tad less tight - anyways - I really appreciated this video and used it to successfully switch my spring. Thank you!

Follow the directions and you'll be good to go! Awesome video helped me fix my crooked door in 20 min -- not 2 because I'm a rookie and didn't have a ladder either. But big smile here and my wife is now letting me watch football the rest of the day without interruption. Thank you brother.

it seems like he's violating one of the main safety rules which is to never put your face in the rotational path of the adjustment bar. If the spring breaks at the opposite end, the bar could spin around and take out an eye or worse

All I got to is this guy saved a lot of people money, good job sir. Now I don't care if you have 20 yrs. of experience or 30. If you have a better way of doing it, then show it, don't just explain it. Because at the end of the day, it's all about saving money, and that's what this young Technician did.

Hi, very interesting video and Thank you for posting! I got a double very heavy garage door (we are in hurricane zone) which is out of balance because is almost impossible to lift it manuanlly. I follwed your video and I found that I can't rotate the springs any more, they are totaled compressed. What should be the issue here, are the springs damaged, lost of eleasticty, old and need to be replaced?. The whole garage door and lifting system was changed in 2015. Thank you

Awesome stuff, thanks! Had to use 1/2" steel rod and the bolts were square so had to use a crescent wrench. Never have I proceeded so carefully on a home repair before, haha!
