Christine Sews A Lot
Приєднався 5 тра 2021
Hello! My name is Christine and I sew a lot! I sew for myself, my family, and those I love. My favorite thing to sew is clothes for me that fit my plus sized person and make me feel beautiful. I post sewing tips and techniques to help others sew faster with better results. I have a lot of sewing content directed to the beginner sewist to help the beginners out there love and wear (or use) what they have sewn. I also do: pattern reviews, sew-a-longs, and share my handmade garments. In addition to sewing clothes, I will pop in the occasional bag, craft, pillow, or children's costume. Please join me! My Minerva Affiliate Code for 10% off purchases at Minerva.com is MSS244CE. I do earn a small commission when you use my code, but it does not cost you anything!

Sewing Room Makeover to Improve Storage and Function
Переглядів 6 тис.9 годин тому
I don't think you can have too big of a sewing room, but when you have a large sewing space efficient organizations and storage systems can fall by the wayside until all of of sudden it does not work. This happened to me. I will admit that I have more sewing supplies than I need or will use in the foreseeable future. By storing things I don't need, I did not have room for the things I do want a...

March Sewing Makes - My Easter Dress Reveal and Great Results on all 6!
I prefer the D ring. Have seen the clamp on pull off.
Yes it can pull off. I use E6000 glue before I clamp and since doing that I can tug on them and it won’t pull off. But you can’t beat the simple D ring.
Love your ideas! Also, I end up keeping my factory seconds too 😂
I love them too because I have 9 of them as gifts for me. I give myself the best gifts. Even the factory seconds.
I just found your channel. I’m enjoying your content but am having a difficult time with the sound. It sounds echoey and it’s hard to really hear you. Hope you can address this issue. Thanks 😊
I did order a new microphone. I know the sound bounces some because of filming in rooms with hardwood floors and tile. I am going to try a wireless lapel mic. 🎤
I appreciate your video.
Thank you 💕
I have made a few tote bags this Christmas and croquet a blanket for my granddaughter.
People love a nice tote!
Thank you for the video, good interesting ideas, lovely gifts 😊.
Thank you Teresa!
I plan to make some for myself, friends and my local Christmas Charity. I love all my UA-cam teachers. Thank you.
💕💕💕💕 your comment made me so happy.
How do you use the popcorn bag? Just to hold popcorn or can you pop pop corn in it??
1/2 c popcorn in the microwave. Popping instructions are in the tutorial! Give it a try.
Great ideas, thanks
You are very welcome!
Very nice ideas! ❤
Thank you!!
Love your ideas! Where did you find that cute alphabet fabric you used for the tote bag?
I got the linen monster alphabet fabric from Minerva.com which is where I buy most of my fabric now. Not just because I am a brand ambassador, but because I can get most of what I need from them and the shipping is reasonable and I have been buying from them for about five years. If I want Rifle Paper or Cotton and Steel I get those from a US based store.
I am so excited to make these. My beachy friends are gonna love them cause they clip them to beach bags instead of digging in bag!
So true! I am big on wearing sunscreen including my lips.
Great video and am with you on all your solutions. We are on the same page and can’t wait to see what you do next. Have the same issues with storage bins and trying to be more organized. I have also put my pdf’s in envelopes to find them easily except haven’t found a label maker I like. Will you please provide the make and model of yours? I like the size of the labels. Yep, no to spool racks. Am moving into a smaller sewing room and your practical solutions are very helpful. Love your hair cut.
Thank you! I use a Brother P-touch. Will double check model and tape size and post it on the community page.
Hello from Johns Island! Great video!
Love to hear from locals!!! What type of sewing do you like best?
I’m sort of a confident beginner. I’ve made a few clothing items and tried my hand at a small quilt. I’ve enjoyed it all so far. I’d like to make a blanket next for my grandbaby ❤
Great ideas! Thanks for sharing ❤
Thank you! 💕
Thanks for the ideas Christine. I have some aprons, pot holders and gift covers for bottles already made but must look at the key holders and Hudson pants. Thanks again ❤
I want to sew a fun wine bottle carrier for my son’s in-laws if I can squeeze it in.
@ I need to do one for my boss so I can gift two bottles this year 😉
First time viewer and new subscriber. Love your choices and taste! And I am headed to Rifle for some of that fabric (darn you for making me spend money…haha!) ❤
Rifle Paper is a fine investment in happiness! My husband likes Rifle Paper and doesn’t know it. He always comments on the fabric when I use Rifle Paper.
Thank you ❤beautiful ideas
You are welcome! 💕
Several of these are new suggestions to me and I’m very pleased for them 😃 Thank you Christine xx
Yay!! I picked things I like and others really appreciated. At the end of the day, when we are making gifts even more than buying a gift we want it to be a great gift for the recipient.
Thank you. A great collection of ideas 🎉
You are welcome! I do love all of them.
I see you have some Wall space for shelves?
I do have some wall space. I am really trying not to fill all the space I have 😂.
All good ideas!
Thank you Mary 💕
Love your new glasses! Your hair looks great!
Thanks! I am liking the new look. The pixie is a return to an old favorite.
Great suggestions! And thank you for being so concise and clear!
I fight sometimes with the urge to over explain 😂
Great gift ideas thank you 😊😊
💕
Nice and thoughtful gift ideas. Inspiring. Thank you.
Thank you! I do truly like all of it.
Such a great list of ideas!
Thanks! Still waiting for my box of fairyland.
Going to look at the Hudson pattern for my grandchildren, great gift ideas xx
My little love them. My oldest is 9 and VERY tall for his age. I have added inches on to the largest mini. We will see if I can fit him this year. He is definitely too small for men’s. I will have to find something similar in tween size soon. They love the pockets.
What a great vlog Christine. Fab ideas. Thank you for supporting the challenge 🎁
I am so happy to participate! I am in awe of all the work you did for this fabulous challenge.
I like your gift ideas! I love your book cover.
Thank you so much! I love that cover too!
@@ChristineSewsALot Happy Thanksgiving!
I just made lanyards for all my coworkers as a small Christmas gift
I am sure that was very appreciated! If you have to wear a lanyard you might as well be styling!
I agree about the thread rack, the majority of my threads are in boxes too. I love your space my craft room is the smallest in the world. Love the idea of colour coding patterns as I too store my pdfs similar to the way you do. It made me smile when you showed how you once hung the patterns in the wardrobe, I tried this too, what were we thinking? Looking fab as always, you have given me the impetus to go tidy my craft room. Take care Christine xx
I know! What was I thinking!!! Those patterns I was hanging blocked access to the closet and ended up with some creases. I think maybe I saw someone hang their cut patterns on pattern hangers and I thought - hey I can hang my uncut patterns on a skirt hanger. 🙄
I love tape free patterns too. I also keep my thread in the same style bins. Keeps the dust out and I can still see what I need. And it travels well if I’d need it. I look forward to seeing your progress! Thanks for sharing….and your hair is cute like that!
Thanks Angie! So glad I switched to Tape Free Patterns.
I bought a thread rack and found it didn't really work for me. I keep thread in boxes, pretty much sorted by color. I use the thread rack for vintage wooden spools of thread that belonged to my mother and other relatives for decoration, as you can't use the old thread to sew with, although I do baste with old thread and it's fine for that.
The pretty factor is what drove me to try the thread rack. I love when pretty meets function. But function is the most important to me and it was not working. How nice that you have something from your mother in your sewing room. I love that my Aunt Mary Lou gave me her giant jar of vintage buttons.
I have a large sewing box my mother-in-law gave me for Christmas many years ago. It stands and has three tiers. The top folds out. It’s great for keeping my threads organized. It has sentimental value as well. I had a great mother-in-law.
That is so sweet 💕💕
I have a sewing box that sounds like this and every time I try to move it, one of the legs falls off. It's from my ex-husband so I think he would enjoy that very much (annoying me)!
😂
You look terrific Christine. Thanks for all the tips in this video. I have many patterns in rolls that I now have in a tote that was meant for wrapping paper storage. Although it works quite well, I find that using the rolled sheets is quite cumbersome. I may decide to fold them as you showed to make it easier to identify and handle. So thank you for this video. Of course I’m going to wait until after the holidays 😅
😂😂😂 I understand your desire to wait until after the holidays. This is me regretting not waiting until January to bring my machine in for service.
I like to keep my thread in drawers. The main colors are kept separate with trays for the smaller spools. The larger ones just sit upright and I see them fine.
That sounds like you have them super handy!
New to your channel Christine! I love seeing how others organize their sewing space. I’m doing a reorganization as we speak. I used to hang my patterns but I’ve recently switched to folding and placing them in envelopes. It does take up less space! I really like the ones you are currently using. I previously had my thread in specific thread boxes but moved to racks on the wall. I plan to make covers for them to keep from dust and fading. I have a cupboard I hang my woven fabrics in. Knits are still folded and in plastic bins. Sewing spaces are constantly a WIP it seems😊
That is so true! Always a work in progress.
Oh my goodness! I don't know which I like more-your cute hair cut or that gorgeous paisley fabric!!.
Awww thanks Carol 💕
Where did you get the plastic totes that fit on the metal shelves?
I bought them different places. It is called "The Really Useful Box" and the size is 32 L. You can look up the dimensions online. I purchased all of them on sale. They are pricey, but they fit exactly and are great quality. I don't care that they are not all blue or all clear - part of that was a sale thing. I use Stash Hub for keeping track of patterns and fabric so I don't need to see everything.
I always thought that you should put the thread on racks even though boxes are now available because that's what I always saw, and that's what I was going to do until I saw your video while watching,I am going to use boxes for two reasons, I have cats and dogs, and I am hoping that it will help keep the hair off of them and hopefully, it will look neater I think that sometimes the racks can look messy and can take up valuable space also i just found you page and so far I am loving it
Exactly! I thought the thread racks would be handy for machine embroidery when I need to select a lot of different colors. I thought it would be quicker to pick them out and put them back. Turned out it did not save time. For them to stay pretty to look at I felt compelled to rearrange in color order and sometimes that meant taking down rows of thread to reorder as I got new thread. Big waste of time. It took up a lot of space and dangling threads. It did not work for my personality. I get a lot of dust in my room from the serger, cutting and sewing - so even without animals in my room I like the boxes better.
Hi, great video on what you like and what you don’t like in your sewing room. I wonder if you could share the brand of the cardboard envelopes that you use for your PDF patterns. I like that idea very much.
I bought all of these on Amazon. Some I like better than others and I could not tell you a specific brand. The first batch I got I liked the best because the flaps of the mailer tucked in and came in and out easily. When I went to reorder I could not get that specific one or it was priced more than I was willing to pay. I try to be reasonable with my storage stuff and go for function first. Everything I bought in that size has worked though. Changing to the lighter paper and getting them pre-folded and in an envelope was a game changer! I might still put the pattern in a cardboard envelope later if I find I am using the pattern over and over again to help preserve the pattern.
I’m a thread box gal.
Neat and tidy!
@@rholt8800 Me too. It keeps it clean and less visual clutter
Your room looks great.❤
Thank you!
I forgot I had a label maker! That will be helpful in the sewing room!❤ I have the same metal rack in my sewing room also.
I found it helps me quickly find what I am looking for!
