Just a few updates since the video - I sno-sealed the welts and leather, doesn’t look great. Doesn’t matter. I’m averaging 30 miles of work/walking per week, 10 miles hiking (per week), and I’ll be technical single track mountain biking in these things on the weekends (20 miles of mud, snow, water, rocks, roots, sweat). I’m hammering these things.
Yeah that is a good choice in leather for water resistance for sure. I have a pair of Whites in their distressed brown, and while the leather is absolutely gorgeous, I have the same issue with moisture and in mine they just soak right into them. Also that honey lug still looks great on yours, mine are perry's with the Vibram Crepe sole and boy have they taken a beating in just 6 weeks time. Huberd Shoe Grease or obenauf's are both really good to add some water resistance if needed, will work really well on boots like yours. I also like to keep in the $350 range and after a ton of research Ive found the 2 best boots you can really get for that price is Drews Loggers and Franks Patriots. I just added the Drews loggers to my rotation and when you look at the construction it feels like an absolute steal for that price. They send the materials to Leon Mexico and its made there is how they do it, but its basically a $600 pair of PNW boots for $350 if made in Mexico isnt a deal beaker for you.
I ended up sno- sealing these, didn’t help that much with the water intrusion, especially at the moc stitching. Doesn’t bother me that much…I do love the thickness of the leather in these things. I am pounding these things daily, I’ve actually (aside from work) started mountain biking in these things…just ten miles of mud, water, sand, snow. It’s awful stuff, hitting rocks, smashing into ledge and stuff. I’ll try the Obenauf’s - always wanted to try it - I’m thinking about going with their oil instead of their cream. I’m planning on using it on the Fultons and the Drew’s loggers. Thanks for the comment, love talking boots! Another brand out of Leon Mexico is Duradero, pretty good bang for the buck on a moc toe boot. Not junk like Brunt’s.
Probably towards the end of summer. Been hammering away at them quite bit, treated them with bees wax and neats foot oil. Softened the leather up some for a few weeks. Soles are holding up pretty good…have a little tear in one of the tongues and one of the pull loops has a little tear. And something put a little slice on one side but that hasn’t gotten any bigger. All good so far.
I got a pair of these just over 2 years ago. I've worn them to do everything, and they've held up. I'm sure if I analyzed them, I'd find some issues. I've crawled around wearing them numerous times, and the roughout hides blemishes good.
I considered the brown distressed, really liked the look of it, but I have other boots that color and figured I’d ruin them too quickly. Good to know they hide the punishment well. I’m liking the black, I may continue with black boots for a while…they hide so much. I just waxed my welts, usually got some on the leather and they actually made it look really good. Usually I have to avoid that. Liking the boots so far!
@doublebase6509 If I worked with oil or grease, I'd have done black myself. I do light mechanic work and construction in mine. Honey do crap, plus whatever I dig up on my own. I have to wear Metguard boots for my real job that they provide every 6 months. I'll never do as much in mine as you will yours. I got them to test White's build and sizing. Now I have a pair of engineers on order from them.
@doublebase6509 they arrived today. Once I got the right insole lined out for the right boot, they're practically perfect. My right foot is narrower than my left due to a motorcycle accident. I have to use an insole on the right with all boots. They're stiff as hell, but that'll change. The foot bed feels great. I don't feel any potential hot spots out of the box. I'll let you know how it goes.

@@dark_gravity_edcwhen you get your engineers, let me know how you like them. Really nice looking boots.

@@dark_gravity_edcthat’s great! Good luck with the break-in, let me know how it goes.
