Did I Make a Huge MISTAKE? Buying My First Motorbike at Almost 50!
I find counter steering helps round corners and look for where you going picking your line early if that helps
We forgive you because you knows not what our missing (still a good watch safe riding )
Interesting experience you had with insurance.I got a 400x.Late 50's and not ridden for 30 years so no NCB and insurance was just over £200.Glad you are enjoying your bike.I'm also building up confidence with hard cornering especially as I've added off road tyres.
The rear shocks - I cup of white vinegar to 4 cups of water will neutralise the efflorescence. Then a coating of ACF 50.
Try a track day under supervision. It's fun and you will learn so much about cornering.
Will look into this 👍
Counter steering.
👍
Just enjoy it have fun, moto look great, and you got some sun ;) Motorbikes are money pits :D
😂😂 thanks for watching
I've watched a few of your videos and I have to say I'd rather watch paint dry! it's like watching an episode of playschool (Wife)"Hey Andy do you like your new bike?" (Andy) "yeah i do its beautiful" go easy mate with your 45 horse power 👍
😂
Andrew, there is only one way to ride in winter, it's slow ,ish, and upright, no corner is the same but if you think all corners are slippery then you'll keep shiny side up ,happy riding
Thanks 👍
That’s why you should keep the Kawasaki for winter and use the garage queen for good weather.
👍👍
It's looking great from this angle.
Thanks
So many bikers DON'T ride in wet and cold conditions. So good on you and you WILL become a better rider for it. One thing to consider is that tyres can make a huge difference to how a bike feels. Yes, there are good tyres and bad tyres, but what's more important are tyres that best suit both the bike and your riding style. Also, don't be afraid to experiment with tyre pressures which again can have a huge effect on how a bike feels. Manufacturers give tyre pressures to safely cover a whole remit of conditions/weights etc. etc. Dropping pressures by a few psi may suit you better espescially in very cold conditions. It's all down to experience and will take time but stick with it you're doing great.
Hi. Thanks for sharing this with me 👍
Hi Andy, really like your videos of your thoughts about riding your bike as a newbie. I own a Super Meteor too and would like to suggest you adjust your rear shocks at least two turns and then see if you find it better. Lots of people replace the shocks with Hagon ones but they are hundreds of pounds so try adjusting the standard ones first. Cheers 👍
Great advice and thanks for sharing 👍 Happy riding
You need to set your suspension up for your weight. Ask your dealer about it. Tucking in on the front is normal on the RE. It's to do with the rake of the steering. Also, check your tyre pressures. You are doing the right thing by going with flow. As your speed rises (anything above 20mph) counter steering improves the feel of the bike. This comes with time. I have been riding for about 50 years and still learning ... everyday is a school day.
Thanks for sharing this info with me Happy riding
I think you have picked the ideal first bike, that engine is a great plant for learning your craft, enjoy
Thanks loving it!
I think the RE is perfect at your stage of experience
Thank you 👍
Hi, love your channel. I have been following your progress. Insurance will need to know if you are taking a pillion passenger. Your premium will go up a bit. They will not cover a pillion if not included on the policy.
Hi, thanks for sharing
You only need to tell your insurance about changes in performance modifications. Like a new exhaust system.
👍👍
Hi guys. Nice and steady on winter roads. Especially on country roads where they are in shadow as could still be dicey. If you start modifying your bike like the air filter it could effect your warranty. Great video.
Thanks for the info 👍
If you're cleaning aluminum, use WD40 first to clean then do your polish after. I'll go back to a mirror finish with a few minutes work and no power tools needed.
Good tip, thanks
You and Bingley wheeler aren’t too far apart. He’s a very experienced rider. Why not see if he’ll take you out for a run? Riding with a good biker helps with your own expertise.
Thanks for this 👍👍
The bike will feel better again once you've its had its running in service. The slight re-map, removal of the running in oil. A different Bike. Safe Riding, Mate.
Thanks for this 👍
You are doing really good Andy take no notice of the naysayers enjoy watching your progress, sunshine on chrome is the best alarm clock in the world (especially in summer 😊) take care mate.
Thanks, will do!
Enjoyed the video Andy, just one observation, from the segments where you are riding the bike... I don't mean to sound like a prat but when you are riding don't forget your "life savers", it looked to me like you weren't checking out your blind spots. . As a new rider you can get caught up in the detail and forget the important aspects. Just an observation. Ride safe brother... 🙏
Thanks for this How’s your travels?
@@bikerofatlantis just got back from a cold but enjoyable south coast tour... hope all is going well with you guys, loving the vlogs on both channels...
Great that you are enjoying the biking lifestyle. As for cornering on a faster flowing road, go slow into the corner and fast out. Also do countersteering, that's where you gently push forward on the bar end on the side you want to corner. So if cornering left, gently push on the left hand bar and the bike will lean over to the left. You end up doing it without even thinking about it. Keep it shiny side up! 👍
Thanks for the tips!
Get a front fender extender. It will help keeping the salt of the bike. Cornering is an art, counter steering means that to go round a right hand bend PUSH the right bar and for a left hand bend PUSH the left bar. I know that sounds stupid but that's counter steering for you.
Thanks 👍
in a few months, when the salt is gone and summer is on its way, you could upgrade your shocks, it solve the problem and also make for a good video and I bet it also would be a good upgrade for a wee feller like you.
Btw About cornering, maybe do som research on counter steering and counter leaning.
With all your winter riding at such an early stage you'll become a great all year round rider, winter roads versus summer roads are chalk and cheese. Abrasive Autosol on the alloy will do the job but it's temporary, you can lacquer the component or live with polishing it! Honestly, don't get consumed with the fear of the bike deteriorating, wash with shampoo wax as often as you can and you won't have problems, I never used wax treatments or alike, quality motorcycles will withstand the elements as long as you play your part. Perhaps next week Claire could shock your audience with being all kitted up in women's bike gear, good topic to cover 👍
Hi Jon. How’s things? Thanks for this Claire says it needs to be a few degrees warmer 😂😂😂
@@bikerofatlantis OMG, a fare weather rider in the making 😱
😂😂😂😂😂
Its great following you as we are on similar path as far as skill. I went from meteor 350 to himy 450. Himy feelz top heavy until you ride it. I have dropped it 3 times at a standstill. If i had the means to transport the heavier 650 i would have gone that route. Keep the wheels on the road. Cheers
Happy riding
I'm fairly new myself to motorcycles and bought a suzuki bandit gsf 650 as first big bike but yeah even though passed MOD 2 etc it's still learning with getting confidence on corners as yeah you feel like you fall into them lmao I'll be honest I've cleaned and maintained the chain etc but it's never got that bad with the salt but then again I'm not riding every day and just choosing nice days as can't stand the rain 😂 hopefully some point you'll do like a meet up with subscribers/followers
Thanks and happy riding
Great video Andy, loved listening to the pros and cons. Like you I run my own business and it has basically taken over my life 24 hours a day, this is my main reason for taking my CBT, I need a new interest and of course it will be a brilliant way to get around the Isle of Man. Loved listening to how it allows you to escape. Great stuff.
Thanks for watching 👍
Good video. Can relate to a lot of these issues. Depending on the time of day, I have to change my route for safety reasons. Absolutely nothing wrong with that! Also, pin locks! They're not as fantastic as they're made out. With me I have good and bad days with them. Finally, commuting on a 125, especially a big heavy one like the one in the video can be far from ideal. No power and not quick off the mark or can get away quickly. I had the super light, and you look bigger than me, and it was a lumbering monster. Hopefully now you're finding it better on bigger bikes. Great videos, love your dynamic with your Mrs. Keep them going! 🙂
I like your content and the down to earth nature of your videos. But I can’t get my head around you presenting in a random car park with a back drop of discarded shopping trolleys!! Would you consider an alternative location?
Hi. Time constraints sometimes means we have to film it here 😂😂😂
great videos really enjoy them as a rider in training just started bike training yesterday so mod 1 nxt cant wait
Best of luck to you
Yes you're a begineer, but you are doing amazingly my guy and getting better and better!
Thanks 👍
You may need to have the suspension adjusted as ur a big lad
Yeah I'll have a. look at that, thanks.
Don't over think the corners, look where you want to go and keep looking and the bike will follow. Counter steering can help. Looking good though Andrew, just do a check to right when you pull away on a green light for any red light jumpers.
Thank you, I will do.
I cruising isn’t about thrashing about, it’s about riding around and taking in the scenery around you. When i started riding a 650 was a massive bike, now people tell you it’s not powerful enough!
I know and I love it. It's big enough for me. Thanks for watching.
Love your honesty mate, you seem like a ‘normal’ kinda guy just enjoying the journey that is riding motorbikes, no macho bullshit, and as a new rider myself that has really helped me. Cheers mate, carry on enjoying your adventure.. 😎
Thanks 👍
Get a front fender extender fitted ,will saves lot of crud splashing on your engine, the sticky tape they come with really does stick without using the rivets ,you must clean with alcohol wipes first ,just google your bike name and front fender extender 👌🙌not exspensive either.olso loads of videos on UA-cam ,have a look 👀
Cheers mate, I'll have a look at that.
@ save you a lot of cleaning on your shiny exhaust,ad buy a pyramid one I have them on my bikes 🏍️
that was turning over very slow get some jump leads on it
Just because you have a fast bike doesn't mean you have to use the power, just use as much as you want and it's nice to know there is always some in reserve if you need it. It's all about throttle control.
Few of us Going out for a ride on Sunday if you fancy it Andy. Probably Matlock or something similar. Let me know if you fancy it
Hi David, thanks for the invite. I can’t do this one but I hope to do one with you soon 👍
Have a look at the triumph 1200 bullet proof comfy for both of you plenty of wind protection shaft drive and great for touring ,you can get bar risers so you can get them to fit your arms ,test ride them before you buy and take the Mrs on the back ,make sure she is happy and relaxed
Squires is about 40 minutes from me I’m up where m18/m62 ends/begins. Cbt tomorrow hopefully 🤞 no issues and can get on a bike the wife has said same as Claire am I having a mid life crisis been driving for 20 years but like you did I was push biking it to work 16 mile round trip had a e bike till some scrote nicked it. Can’t really justify the price of a second car with all the extra costs flirted with idea of getting a bike for few years but bit the bullet this time.
Good luck mate, hope you love it as much as me. Let me know how you get on.
🙋🏼 how do i get to win it. I would love another bike but at moment funds say otherwise 😢 i could go on ride outs with you then Andy seeing as we live in the same town. 🙏🏼👍🏼🫶🏼
Hi. How are you guys
Hi Andrew, just come across your channel and slowly working my way through your videos, loving your story. I am 46 and have just purchased my first bike, a Honda Grom. I live on the Isle of Man with a lot of country roads so a Grom should be good fun. I have my first lesson and then CBT in March, little nervous but really looking forward to it. Loving all the little tips and advice. Looking forward to all the videos I still have to watch, keep them coming.
Good luck with the CBT Matt
It’s like when Skoda came back in late 90s people turned their noses up at them judging them on Skoda from the past
I got a Gsxr 750 2006 for £4990 and was rather disappointed in the condition that it arrived in. I swore from that day on that I will never purchase a bike that I've not seen in person even if it's from a dealer ever again. Now I've got a Bmw S1000RR 2016 for £8000, it had 6k miles on the clock and it is in immaculate condition that I purchased off of facebook marketplace
Isnt one of the main problems , the visor misting up and rain.
