You may remember Mr Lou Wagonar. He was the original owner of risqué. I have since repainted and refit her but risqué is still THE boat to beat in the races. I will be donating risqué to the sailing program for University Highschool
I live in Fresno and have been sailing Millerton and Huntington Lake my entire life. I've had Catalina 22, 25, and 27 Plus plus an Oday 25 at both lakes. I haven't sailed millerton lake in probable 8 years the new marina looks really nice. I wish it was in there when I was there all the time..
Great stuff, thanks for sharing your story. Liked and subbed. Love Risque, she's very pretty and this vid is motivating me to get our O'Day 192 ready for the water. Can you suggest any contacts I should be looking to make regarding putting her in a seasonal slip at Huntington? I'm trying to figure out dry storage options for the trailer during summer and the boat/trailer combo over winter. I live over by Santa Maria, but I'd like to store her over in the valley rather than come all the way over here twice a year. Any suggestions you may have will be helpful.
Huntington is seasonal but Millerton is year round. So A lot of people take their Huntington boat down to Millerton for the winter And they use the dry storage there too. As far as contacts go just call the Millerton marina if that’s a dry storage option you wanna check out (ask for John, he’s a very nice man). This also makes sense because the road to shaver can ALSO be the road to Millerton lake . Which means you don’t have to go out of your way to go. You can literally grab your trailer and boat on the way up. As far as contact info in Huntington I don’t have any unfortunately. But I hear their marina people are very easy going too
I just got into sailing this year. I bought a Compac 19 back in March and it's been at Huntington Lake all summer, since the beginning of June. I have to take it out before Labor Day and I'm planning my next adventure for it. Would putting it in Millerton for September through November be a good idea? How is the wind there? At Huntington we are spoiled with a steady westerly wind that goes right down the length of the lake every day like clockwork from 11-7.
If you plan to sail during winter then yes put it in Millerton The guy who sold me rosary spent his summers up there racing Winters in Millerton. Millerton has a steady westerly that pops up as soon as the temperatures rise In the summer you can bet you me ass your sails are up from 2pm on Many days about noon and on. Best winds are at 3:30-7:30 pm Do it. 👍
I haven’t sailed up there before on my own boat. But Risqué used to spend her summers up there racing and the winters down on Millerton. This was before I owned her. Since I took custody of her she has stayed at Millerton lake. I go up to Huntington lake all the time though. And China peak in the winter to ski. What kind of boat do you guys get on board?
@@RameyFamily awesome! My family has owned a place at Huntington since the early 50’s. Such a special place, not so much now after the fire but that’s ok. Unfortunately I’ve never had a chance to sail on the lake or anywhere for that matter. I’d love to try out sailing. Learned to waterski on a jet boat there but now with our little kids we just rock a pontoon boat. Safe sailing, sir!
@@RameyFamily Will do!! If you ever need a dock to park at for a bit up there don’t hesitate to reach out. We’re on the westside of the lake. I own a winery in Paso, hit me up if you come to the coast.
It’s honestly not that heavy. But as it is in between straight up and about 45 degrees, it feels about 150 “ish” pounds I guess. It can be done. But there’s a moment of faith that your back, shoulders and legs can “take it” as you pass that teeter point of no return. After that I used the A Frame lol I have a video that goes into taking the mast down and putting her on a trailer in the refit playlist on my page. It’s much more involved.
Sailed there for many years back in 2005 it sure has improved since then. Thanks for sharing. Except the lousy hours. Your summary is spot on.

Millerton is my local lake. Great shots and high five on the bonus information.
Mine too! Anytime you wanna go sailing I’m always looking for new friends to catch some breeze with.

Well if I’m ever up on the lake in a sailboat I’ll reach out on here and see if you wanna shove off across the lake a few laps

I’m always down to bring the girls to a winery lol. 😂.
I'm about to unstep my coronado25 mast, what is the approximate weight? I don't have any lowering system just muscles and a son to do the heavy work.

I know it is a pain, but an extensive video about raising lowering your mast, and the trailer hasn’t been done on UA-cam yet you could be the first.
Not a bad idea at all.
