Converting a Specialized Epic 8 into an Epic Evo Trail Shredder DREAM BUILD
I converted my Specialized Epic 8 into an Epic Evo trail shredder. I loved the Epic 8 but wanted to bridge the gap between my stumpy, so I broke it down (check out my build video on the Epic 8) and built it into a lightweight ripper. This bike absolutely eats up the trail while climbing like an XC bike. I highly recommend it if you haven't had a chance to ride an Epic Evo. I filmed this myself while trying to build the bike, which had its own challenges, but overall, it was a fun process!

I met up with my friend Tanner Kietzman ( labikewrench) to film a Dream Build video of his all-new 2025 Specialized Stumpjumper 15. This isn't the old stumpy; it's the brand-new model released today! The new Stumpjumper 15 has an unmatched combination of capability, control, and personalization. It has a 6-way geometry adjust, a 29” or mixed wheel, a tunable spring curve, and more....
Unboxing the all NEW Specialized EPIC 8 Expert XC bike!

As some of you may know, I'm an ambassador for Specialized, and I just got my new Epic 8 Expert in! I couldn't be more stoked that this bike is an absolute XC beast. It will take over for my Diverge and Chisel as I'll be racing Mammoth Tuff in September on it. I've ridden my fair share of hardtails and XC bikes, and without a doubt, this one is my favorite. That "magic middle" setting everyone ...
A NEW DECKED 2.0 System for 2000 - 2006 First Gen Toyota Tundras!

Decked has never offered a drawer system for the first-generation Toyota Tundras (2000-2006) until now....sort of. So, I went back and forth with Decked to find the best option for the 1GT. Most people have been modifying the 2011 Ford F150 and Econoline Van drawers, but you must cut into the ammo cans and modify the entire top plate. The 2020-Current Toyota Tundra drawers are a near-perfect fi...

There are almost no solutions for us 2000-2006 1st gen Tundra owners if you want a better fog light that's plug-and-play. That's why I decided to find a good bolt-in solution for Baja Designs Squadrons and discovered that the Ford/Toyota Fog Pocket Light Mount Kit For Squadron Lights (linked below) works perfectly. What tyre lever is that? Looks ideal! Great camera angles by the way.
Very clean thanks for sharing!
Not even 4x4? 😅
Didn’t read the title eh?
Epic video! planning on selling my sprinter and doing the exact same van build as this. What wheels are these?
They’re just generic D stamp steelies
@@brakeforsnakes I guess I was more curious what the offset was.
@@DavidLiebBIKEprobably 0 I can’t remember really. Pretty sure only one offset was offered
That van looks perfectly beefed out! 10/10
Love economy-builds. There is a niche for everyone.
I know it’s been a year now since you put up this video I’m very interested in safari Astro and Ford Econoline vans and I did like this video about four wheel. Would you be interested in selling? I’m looking for something exactly like that. I have a 2012 Ford F150 I’m going to trade I live in Texas
I sold it already
sick!!
You did an awesome job, I have a 1999 E350 7.3 Desiel Van that I'd love to do the same thing to!
You should do it!
soooooo........ we don't want your life story, just get to the point...... all youtubers do this BS; get to the topic or stop blathering on
Keep complaining about the free content you watch, don't like it then move on.
I need friends who can do stuff
The 4.6 is a little lower on power, but when properly maintained it just goes and goes and goes, rock solid reliable motor
Hi! I like your videos. Please...what is the name of your tire insertion tool? I don't see that anywhere. Thanks!
It’s made by cushcore
@@brakeforsnakes Thanks a lot!
I have an action vans lift on my 2012 e350. Haven't gotten to the rear locker yet. Great video.
Nice build, good job
Whats the latest?!
Sold it
What gutter brackets did they put on for you? Ive been hunting for something simple like that
They make them
I like your van im planing on buying a van with a high roof how would you frame it to insulate it ?
I got a large chisel frame and built it up with hunt xc race wheels, vittoria barzo 2.35 & mezcal 2.25 tlr, 2025 fox 32 step cast performance, enve m5 carbon bar, 65mm enve alloy stem, deity knuckledusters, microshift advent x (with a sword 11-38t cassette), hope dropper lever, one up v3 dropper 125mm, wtb volt saddle (needs to be replaced), raceface aeffect cranks 165mm, wolftooth 32t oval, magura mt trail sport brakes with 180/180 storm hc rotors, kmc x10sl chain, crankbrothers stamp 1 small pedals (also need to be replaced) and it weighs 24.0lbs with 2oz of stans in each tire and a basic aluminum bottle cage. Hoping to get it down to 23lbs with a new seat, pedals, and eventually wheels, all while still keeping budget somewhat in mind.
Should be doable! This was around 21 in the end
I've got an 04 Astro AWD. Put in a 233c transfer case from a Jimmy ( the junkyard is full of them) and a floor shifter from Journey off-road for 175.00 . Now I have a real 4wd van with a 3 inch body lift from the same company. Love Love Love it!!!
If you wanted to go light and buy this expensive wheelset, why didn't you use a Carbon epic frame?
The cost justification on the carbon epic for like 1lbs doesn’t make sense. I built this as a project with specialized to sore what a light XC alloy bike could be like
@@brakeforsnakes so the wheelset wasn't 2500 bucks?😜
I hace mullet on the back , can i put 27.5 in front ?
I wouldn’t
Love the van & the changes you have made. Learned a lot. Thnz
6:45 I've been driving/living-in my Econoline for 5 years. The ride quality from the front suspension is my worst complaint about the Econoline platform. Eventually I'll do a 4x4 conversion, I just wish I had budgeted for the conversion when I first got the van.
I love the vans, and they do have their advantages, but for longer term living I always suggest finding something square, with space to stand up, and the ability to mouse proof the small holes and whatnot. Engine bays are cabs are near impossible to keep mice out of. Building an insulating a square space is much easier than dealing with curved walls. Cube van, cargo hauler, or build a cabin on a steel trailer are my picks, and future plans. Vans are sleepable, but not very liveable for hosting others or standing up haha. Cheers everyone.
I lived in an apartment where I couldn't have dogs. Built an e350 ambulance into a camper for down to -30c, Ditched the apartment and the rent. Its different, but great for me these days. Dog loves it ofcourse.
Great video. I could NOT work like that though … prolly cause I am old, but I cannot have anyone else around when wrenching. Distracts me
You can do it!
It’s definitely not a budget build. Of course you can compare it but it’s like apples to oranges. Anyway, call it what you wanna call it. I like your build. I’m on the verge of starting my own build and I really like some of your ideas. Cheers mate.
Considering I was maybe 11k all in including the van I’d say it’s pretty budget.
SRAM = garbage
Lmao you got jokes
i really want to do some bike building videos. Curious what your setup is to get the awesome shots and lighting u have. also the red frame color with the podium gold is mint 👌
I’m a full time videographer so I have an entire studio of lighting and camera gear. Just invest in some good lights from aputure and get to shooting.
I bought a wheel chair van Chevy Express extended 3500. For 3k, it does have 270000m but everything works good on it so I'm happy with it.
My 1977 e250 is 4x4. (Not from the factory though) it’s so tall though with the lift + it has a high top lol. Almost 10feet to the top eliminating quite a few 9’ drive thrus lol
Your rig could use some insulation 👍🏾✌🏾
Now this is a van life build even I could get behind.
I drove an Econoline every day for work for several years and you are correct, they do wander around and it's especially noticeable on the highway. It has since been replaced with a Transit which basically drives itself. Difference in handling is night and day.
This video is really not entertaining at all, yeah get a new job. 👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾
lol this isn’t my job. Try again.
4.56 for 35s?! Gonna give the grocery getter kit a bad name... Your getters gas mileage is gonna suck! It's not a crawler, the most it needs is 3.73 maybe 3.93 or 4.11 MAX. 🤦
It’s been amazing on 4.56’s and my mpg basically didn’t change especially after the 5star trans tune. Try again.
True it might be a budget build inside but every five minutes you were dropping some namebrand stuff that I can’t afford😢 I do believe the Econoline is an awesome platform to build from. I’m so dreaming the same set up. … with manual lockers, big tires, grocery getters , hightop. But I desperately want to have barn doors on the side and then a 270 batwing for an awning.
You have to prioritize where you want to spend your money
Is it possible for someone with no experience to build a bike from scratch or is that a dumb undertaking? I'm loving the Chisel hard tail frame specs, but i don't like the low end junk on the overpriced pre-built options. Trying to figure out how hard the headset install would be.
It’s very easy for the most part but you may need help and special tools for cutting the steer tube, bleeding the brakes, setting the derailer up, etc. That said you should do it so you know how to fix it
@@brakeforsnakes thanks for showing your build! How many bikes have you built from scratch?
@@teecee4459probably 15
Never cut squared corners when you can cut a radius.... square corners crack.
foresty forest has one ofvthose and breaks down every other week
Ok
The 4.6 is so much for reliable than 5.4 the 5.4 engines were junk
Agreed
Thanks for saving my rattlesnake friends. They are my mouse traps and one of them has taken shelter in my garage when it was raining. I opened the garage door so he can enter and exit at his or her leisure.
That’s awesome!
Too much bed for me, I"ll add a $150 futon. Vertical.
Always go with ford, Chevy or dodge vans when it comes to utility or camping vehicle. Anything else is an excess, unless you want to live in it. They are simple, rugged, parts are everywhere and any junkyard will have axles, pumps, engine or tranny. Plus they are disposable, bracket for light? Just drill a hole, two washers, marine sealer and you are good.
Thanks for the walk around! I love the minimalist build! Simple is highly underrated! No shame in prioritizing the budget on the the things that are most important for you! Also, to your point, It’s hard to find a used ProMaster delivery van for less than $30k. I’m guessing you have less than half that in your current build, and you are already way more capable off road, getting the same gas mileage and able to camp in it. Well done. I have a ProMaster RV build with all the bells and whistles, that I am paying way to much for and constantly fixing poor coach build quality issues. So much so that I’m looking and your video and thinking really hard about what’s next for me. Thanks for sharing and opening my eyes to a really cool and far less expensive option!
🤘🏻
Hey not sure if you ever came up with a bug screen solution but Amazon has home patio/garage door screens with HD Velcro on the sides and top and a really decent magnetic closure for $22! I was looking at van specific screens and like you said, they were $600-800. I’ve been rocking my AMAZON screen for 2 years with no issues.
A thing of beauty 🚵🏼🚵🏼
