SALEM'S LOT - Bland or Exciting? My Thoughts on the Trailer
#stephenking #hbomax #upcoming
The Salem's Lot trailer is out and the film arrives on October 3rd on HBO MAX. Stephen King is a master of his craft and yet, I cringe every time another of his works is adapted to the screen. Half of the time we never truly get a great film worthy of the novelist himself. Hopefully Salem's Lot turns out good enough, we shall see.

    Yay! Very well done intro ...so this is what you were telling me about! Absolutely amazing and first of its kind! Can't wait for more..... Excellento! Full marks for theatrical aspect! Also very liking the science elements, its chemistry and biology. Right up my street! Prehistoric biology - c.f. carnivorous dinosaurs (like our modern day reptiles) would have to have an extrmely acidic stomach perhaps as much as twice or three time that of ours. By comparing terrestrial conditions, physiology and biochemistry we establish the basal parameters and then can explore further into the realms of exo planets and xeno biology. Wonderful hints given that the science officer has already formed some thoughts and hypotheses as to the (Biomechanical) origins of the Xenomorph and its possible native environs. It would be amazing to deleve deeper, but if one draws some hints (or imagination) from the original Alien movie, what can be learnt from the Space Jocky? The collosal Juggernat - Space Derelict? Both were biomechanical, subtle, and organically integrated. And VERY ancient! Where is the power plant? How is energy generated, stored, transferred? I would bet you a million dollars that the hive material is also acid resitant? Those giant conduits on the mothership could perhaps give us some clues? And what abou tthe copious amounts of that sticky saliva / secretions that seem to overflow uncontrollably from the Xenomorph. Any purpose? Is it a by-product of its acidic metabolism? Is it some form of biological defence mechanism? Some insects secrete glue-like substance that we collect and use as furniture polish and treatment. Since the other questions that relate t o the Xenomorphs accelrated rate of growth, it's ability to canabalise on inorganic materials such as plastics. metals, composit materials would make sense to see that metalic teeth and the inner jaws that can rip right through bodies with ease. The acid can then be used as a digestive juice much like how spiders and other arachnoids feed. Finally, with this creature being substantially mechanical, how would nanites and nanobiotechnology figure in its overall physiology biochemistry and overal its purpose. It is far too perfect to have been an experimental project as something like this in evolutionary biology would take millions of years. Personally not too keen on the black goo (rip off from the X-File) as it is a lazy plot point, and was never a part of the original story line (which I love & respect alot). Also it has never been properly anchored in the lore excep in the most superficial way. Do with it what you like / can as I do belive you have great imagination and scope of vision to perhaps give us better perspective than what we have been given so far in the franchise. This is the sort of additional content that W-Y undoubtedly archives, but has hitherto been absent from the lore (by and large). This truely deserves to be on the Alien DVD Bonus Disc in a future release..... Keep it up Dude!

I'm along for the ride and once again encourage your efforts as you may well ACE this treatment of what I consider to be one of the greatest Sci-Fi IPs. I agree, there is just so much that can be teased out, and also incorporate the wealth of stuff available in the Alien universe (within reason). No way was Gorman an architect of these plans he was more likely picked because he was just a green horn lieutenant picked by the company for their personal gains... for instance it was Ripley who advised him the team were under the primary heat exchangers... he replied.. "So... so what", it was actually Ripley as well as Burke who convinced him that any shooting could cause a thermal nuclear explosion.. only then did he order the team to hand in ammo from their weapons; and to add why didn't they just retrieve the face huggers and head back to earth if his end game was solely to retrieve the specimens of alien life? Carter Burke knew what the master plan was 100 percent... my verdict on Scott Gorman is not guilty. Just to add a superb video/upload thankyou!

      Let's be real - and NOT be false, just because we have the capability to easily b.s. about things anonymously online: most ALL Stephen King adaptations deserve neither a theatrical nor any other release. This has been clear to me since his "authorized"/chosen version of The Shining, in like, '97 or whenever. I was finally done not filtering his content, at that point. And THIS one will be like 99% of the rest. (And yes, Shawshank was one of the best films ever made. Never to be forgotten.)

    • @ENTERTAINtheDUDE
      @ENTERTAINtheDUDE 4 дні тому

      @@justinklenk I get what you mean. Not to be critical of Kings writing in any way but I do have to then wonder why this is the case? Is there something inherently wrong with the way he writes that ultimately produces elements of cheesiness in the film adaptations? I find this hard to believe personally so maybe he's just been the unluckiest person alive when it comes to his work being made into films. I never read The Shining but I love the film, therefore I have no knowledge on the differences sadly. I have read books like Carrie and although it was still better than the films, I do remember thinking it's fun but nothing too special at the time. But all that said, if Hollywood could pull their finger out and apply their best talent to his adapting his work like they are capable of then the world would be a better place 😉👌

    • @justinklenk
      @justinklenk 3 дні тому

      @@ENTERTAINtheDUDE I think you just nailed it, at the end of your comment - _if (someone) applied all their talent..._ - and there's our problem: King was such a mercilessly specific dredger of the macabre details and the emotionally scarring thoughts that terrified his mind/soul, as a child who was living a shitty, poor existence - and he learned the dramatic value of dispensing that on the page - which, with luck, was finally, _finally_ noticed, after trying forever. Only a filmmaker/scriptwriter who can very skillfully PORTRAY on film the dramatically disturbing portrayals (that King has already accomplished, on paper) could actually disturb/enthrall us in a _properly_ analogous fashion. King is nothing if not a superb dramatist - I've always found it his core capability, if I'm being honest... and for that sense of disturbing terror to grip us, it MUST be dramatically delivered, with the _absolute height_ of one's communicative skill. Therefore, piss-poor 'adaptations' have become _nothing_ to me; an insult to human intelligence, at best, and such things are best avoided by humanity. So that's easy for me, now, having seen the pattern (by around the early 90s). He seems (unbelievably, to me, like watching a brain surgeon who can't calculate a tip) to not even understand this, in its most basic sense... which I learned to accept about this issue (if not detest). It's frustrating if you haven't gotten clear that it will never change, except by coincidence or him beginning to _actually_ pay attention. But his ego seems not to allow it - I don't really know, for sure - but there's indeed a certain patheticness to it... very unfortunately for the world of horror films. Even though he hated Kubrick's adaptation, he couldn't admit that Kubrick KNEW how to capture, in The Shining, the fear of isolation and the terrifyingly lonely pathos of being, _yourself,_ the danger to the ones you love most, through your self-poisoning habits, which you cling to. In a big chasm of a house you have extended access to, and frightening freedom in, to just... keep on going. (Alcohol... Cocaine... Writers' hardcore vices.) The hotel was the main character, of course, along with Jack - he could actually do _whatever_ the hell his poisonous mind conceived and was tempted to act out. What a cruelly effective _enabler_ for him to fully become the piece of shit who he feared most. Yeah - most directors/writers have no stomach for that. They're pussies, compared to who they need to temporarily be to go where they need to temporarily go, in order to really bring something like "The Shining" or "It" to truly frightening life. To depict the (our!) unspeakable "things." As Alan Watts once said, "the artist is the one who shows what can't be shown, the poet is the one who says what can't be said." True emotion (the drama of horror, comedy, romance, etc.) must be exceedingly brilliant in its _art of suggestion_ - we can only point at the thing; our pointing finger is _not_ the thing itself. Yet all amateurs try to force-feed us with their amateur ideations. But we need TRULY in-touch persons - of ANY age, background, or experience - to 'light' the way for us, so that we can get _ONE_ TRUE, REAL GLIMPSE of what THEY actually see. I could maybe, for instance, see Guillermo del Toro _actually capturing_ some insanely disturbing thought of King's - that's a wild guess, of course! Thanks for your great, intelligent response - and ALL your intelligent video essays, brother. 👍

Hell, I think most of what we hear from Burke is a lie, or at the very least a twisted truth. I think he lied to Ripley about her not having grandchildren, too. Just to ensure she has no emotional ties to Earth and could more easily be manipulated into going with him. I think Ripley had to go. The Company needed her gone. She knew too much. Unpopular opinion but I would argue that Gorman did ok and only really made one mistake which was to carry on with the rescue patrol once it was determined that they couldn’t fire the pulse rifles under the heat exchanger- and even that could be argued as - what else could they realistically do?nobody questioned that they shouldn’t be attempting the rescue - that was the entire point of the mission and they didn’t know how much time they had. There was a whole squad of highly experienced marines and not one of them had a better idea. Even at the beginning when Gorman says the control room is secure and Ripley (who is by her own admission “not a soldier”) contradicts him saying it wasn’t secure - well Gorman was completely right. There was only one catastrophic error in the whole film - and that was Ferro and her copilot landing and leaving the loading ramp open.
