Dead Sea Chronicles Sidebar: Responding to Snelling's Dead Sea Snub!
Do Dr. Snelling's papers on the geology of Israel provide a response to my Dead Sea Chronicles young-earth challenge? It has been suggested to me that I need to consider his papers about geology of Israel. Andrew Snelling, recently retired from the Young-earth creationist' apologetics ministry Answers in Genesis, attempts to explain Israel's geology within a young earth framework. I focus particularly on his treatment (or lack thereof) of the Dead Sea's formation and its massive salt deposits. While Snelling provides extensive descriptions of Israel's geology, he utterly fails to adequately explain critical evidence like the 6,000 feet of halite deposits and the complex sedimentary layers beneath the Dead Sea.
This video is a sidebar to my ongoing series examining geological evidence that challenges young earth creationist interpretations of the Dead Sea's formation. I argue that Snelling's work, despite its technical language and detail, avoids addressing key problems that a young earth model must explain.

    Snelling does talk about the Dead Sea salt in the "Genesis Flood Revisited" book as being deposited catastrophically as a result of "intense volcanic and magmatic activity", among other arguments, with a reference to Austin, 1994. (It's hard to tell in the Kindle edition which reference that is, unless it's the Grand Canyon book.)

    As a YEC, duffy has given me much the think about. Does it change my stance on a young Earth? No, it does not. There is an explanation challenging all of duffys evidence that appear to discredit a young Earth. It simply has yet to be determined. The reason I say this is due to the massive amount of evidence that is highly suggestive of a young Earth and a catastrophic flood. Perhaps YEC scientists are skipping around some issues. But that does not make them liars. Duffy, himself, appears to also be skipping around some issues.

    How can any geologist be correct, without also assuming that Revelation is in the past and not future prophecy?

    • @Ken_Scaletta
      @Ken_Scaletta 12 годин тому

      I have no idea what you're asking. There is no such thing as "future prophecy," but what does that have to do with the age of the earth anyway?

    • @Jared_SW
      @Jared_SW 11 годин тому

      @Ken_Scaletta There's enough evidence to convince me that much of the geologic record also supports events that have occurred in the book of Revelation. These events if not accounted for when developing assumptions of our geologic record, would in effect distort any data collected concerning the age of the earth.

    • @Ken_Scaletta
      @Ken_Scaletta 10 годин тому

      @@Jared_SW The book of Revelation is about Rome at the end of the 1st Century. It is part of a Jewish literary genre called "apocalypse," which used coded allegory to talk about things that were going on contemporaneously to the reader, not the far future. They are coded so that the enemy will not understand it. In college I was told that imagery like the "whore" and the "Beast" are analogous to modern political cartoons, like a Bear for Russia or Uncle Sam for the US. Everything in Revelation maps to Rome and in particular the Roman Imperial cult - that is the deification and worship of the Roman emperor. The "whore" riding on a beast with seven hills is Rome. The "Beast" is the deified Emperor. The different heads are specific emperors. The head that is wounded but revives is Nero. The number 666 is a numerical anagram for "Kaisar Neron." The final "Beast" is believed by most scholars to be an allusion to the Emperor Domitian who is being presented as a new Nero because he, like Nero, deified himself while he was still alive. Incidentally, contrary to popular belief, the Beast of Revelation is never called "antichrist." That word only appears in 1 and 2 John, in the plural and in the present tense - "antichrists are among us now" - and defines that as those "who deny that Jesus came in the flesh." This could be a reference to Docetic Christians who said that Jesus was only a spirit and never had flesh. Whatever is meant, it's not the Beast of Revelation. This is all mainstream scholarship, by the way. Not fringe or anything. It's what I was taught in college Bible classes. Revelation is best understood when it's genre is understood.

    Although this explanation is from a biologist, geology provides the timeline for biology and astrology. Does YEC provide a map of the Neocene, Myocene, and Cretaceous periods supposedly compressed into the pre-flood and post-flood segments? And, what layers are attributed to the early Creation? post-Creation? And, for the Dead Sea, where's the blackened fire-from-Heaven layer? K-T boundary?

    I feel like you're playing somewhat of a rhetorical game here that misses or ignores the points. Yes, obviously petrified footprints are common in the geologic record, but the likelihood of such vast masses of footprints from various different creatures being preserved on the same plains throughout the geologic record under normal circumstances is vanishingly small, and the fact we have a few examples of footprints preserved at certain points in history, such as your modern example shown in the beginning (many of which are not covered and preserved in new strata but are being eroded away and some quickly so depending on circumstances), does not really help the case you're trying to present here. Might as well point out that any creationist not having an answer to something you bring up does not mean they can't come up with a reasonable answer eventually, and they obviously does not have the same dedication to expanding the research on the subject as secular evolutionists have, so it becomes even more important for future generations who are faithful to the Word of God to expand the field and find more answers that help demonstrate how God's Word is completely accurate and reliable in contrast to the secular man's opinions. That problem aside, you also have to assume that it's true there's been millions of years of suspicious mass preservation of countless tracks sharing the same vast plains, rather than just extremely few and isolated examples, and that they've been conveniently enough buried in distinct successive strata before being eroded away. Arguably, the presence of billions of footprints throughout the geologic record is far better explained by a global flood event depositing successive layers of strata where surviving creatures walk upon it and leaving tracks that are subsequently preserved by incoming sediment waves, producing distinct pankake layers of strata without any normal topography or reworking as would be expected on the secular timescale. Also of note is how you admit these involve circumstances of rapid preservation, and creationists don't negate the fact that lesser numbers of tracks have been preserved since the global flood in other events where their quick preservation has been favored. None of the things you're pointing out here are new to creationists. On the point of the groups leaving the Ark, determining which taxa actually belong to distinct created kinds is a challenging field, just like for evolutionists in determining which taxa shares which lines of common descent. Also worth of note is that the global flood probably didn't just deposit whole erathems at one time, but it deposited different layers within those larger layers in phases as the tectonic activity moves the continents and the floodwaters are gradually going back and forth depositing these layers as the water level advances, which of course also would have involved a lot of heat and pressure, preserving the tracks. This seems much harder to explain with the secular evolutionist position and you would hardly expect so many preserved fossilized tracks in such distinct layers that were curiously enough never eroded or reworked to the degree we observe in the present but instead piled on top of one another to produce a massive wall of distinct thick sediment layers, all which curiously enough are admitted as having been produced by water and containing a majority of marine fossils. Regarding your last note on humans living on top of the eroded layers, surely you could imagine catastrophic events that mass erodes sedimentary layers, both during and after the global flood, and assuming these Miocene layers were deposited late in the event, the subsequent uplift of the continents would obviously cause mass erosion to occur from the receding waters, exposing the tracks and fossils. Saying "flood geology is a failure" seems a far too premature conclusion and arguably not one that is actually justifiable, and by this same reasoning you may as well state that secular geology is a failure.

    At 39:00, you mentioned "turbidites", but I don't think that was the correct term. If there is disruption of bedding in sediments due to biological action, the process would be "bioturbation". Turbidites are more specifically deposits due to turbidity flows, usually associated with flows off continental shelves, or similar environments.

    Um.... on the west side there is an actual cliff before you reach Avdat and the Judean Plain. In this rift valley is a field of small cinder cones. So, there's also vulcanism going on in the valley. North(on the Sea of Galilee, aka Kinneret), at Capernaum, many of the buildings were made of the local basaltic rock as opposed to the limestone more commonly used in the area of Judaea.

      Well that is pretty easy, he just keeps repeating the same script over and over again where ever he appears. His station on UA-cam was taken down so now he can only appear as a guest elsewhere. I know many people love him but I find him so derivative and uninteresting that it's hard for me to spend much time paying attention to him.

    I hate this human is hard to define stuff. We are as easy to describe as any other species and our lineage is no more or less complicated to describe then any other lineage. When did humans become humans is as fuzzy a question as when did seals become seals or when did french stop being latin. There is no hard line and it can only be approximated in retrospect.

Noah, Why was Ham's son punished for his father inadvertently seeing you need and him immediately acting to cover you up? The distinction between Human and Primate, used to be the ability to use tools. Then they found that some of the other primates (chimps, etcetera) use rudimentary tools as well.
