My friend’s Davidson D-17
I saw my friend Brianne out sailing her Davidson D-17 with her dog Beaujangles while I was anchored with Gulf Mariner off of Newcastle Island. It’s sure is a lovely boat. She also owns a nice little D-9. Over the years I have owned a D-17 a D-9 and a 14 foot Davidson diesel powered lifeboat/workboat.

DUDE CORRECT THE VIEW ON YOUR CAMERA !!!
This would be my perfect boat . I could launch it at Newport Bay and "putt" to Catalina Island for the weekend . I want one 👍😎
When I try to think of any other boats that can do what Gulf Mariner does for me I can’t think of much if any. It’s the perfect boat for me for sure.
I just LOVE this boat and I sure miss your regular video visits..
I love the boat too and use it regularly. I guess I’ve run out if things to say in my videos. I should do a new tour video though, because I have made some other improvements
@@topfunguy2281 I am looking forward to anything you produce! Hell, do another on "boat coffee" nothing beats boat coffee!
Looks like Mark Bay. I'm pretty sure I've seen you sailing past Stones Marina. Beautiful little boat and she looks very capable and lots of fun.
Yes and yes. This is Mark Bay and it was either me or my friend who had the boat now sailing past Stones. It is a great little boat for sure.
@@topfunguy2281 I'll wave next time I see you. lol
Absolutely one of the best little trawlers I've seen. Nice upgrades and you've kept the boat in beautiful shape. Thanks for sharing.
Enjoying the videos. Saw the upgrades video
Dint know about them 😮 very nice small boat. Crazy that they only made 25 of them. I wish i knew how to fiberglass
2 liters an hour? For real? Thats phenomenal. Thats at 7 knots?
It’s about 2.23 litres an hour at 2,500 RPM and 6 knots. 3.5 litres an hour at 3,000 RPM at 7 knots which is still pretty good.
@@topfunguy2281 Wow, lucky you! Thanks for getting back to me. Safe travels!
So tiny, how much did u cost?
Dreamboat
Yes, she’s a fine vessel. It would be hard to find something better and more fun for that size.
looks like a great time! i miss the ocean
2700 rpm seems awfully high
The Yanmar is rated at 3,600 RPM. Everything that I’ve read says that it is best to run a diesel at 85% of maximum rated RPM which works out to be 3,060 RPM for this engine. According to the fuel curve in the specs, the engine is most fuel efficient at around 2,700 RPM. These days I spend a lot of time running around 2,500 RPM or less. This engine purrs at any speed.
Rough seas?
Model IS25.....you mean Independent shipwrights and its 25 ft LOA? It actually looks like a Glen L. model from the 1970s.
The model is an IS25. You are correct. It is remarkably similar to the Glen L Hercules Tug.
Nice Trawler, enjoyed viewing it until you turned the camera sideways. Then I stopped..
Great!
Camera 101 please.
Wow so around 15mpg? How much do these usually sell for?
Yes, they are very fuel efficient little cruisers. There were less than 20 of them made, so they don’t come up for sale that often. They were very heavily and well made and have stood the test of time. If you found one you could count on it being about 1/2 to 1/3 of the cost of a comparable Nordic tug 26 or Ranger Tug 25.
Can we have a consumption at 7kts and 8 kts? What is the weight? How big fuel tank you have? Thanks
Rough seas??
TURN YOUR CAMERA UPRIGHT ASSHOLE
Hey Top fun guy! I just got a Danica 16 ! I started a Facebook page for Danica owners as should be a max of 25 of us it would be cool to be able to connect
Oh yeah forgot to say I’m just in island a bit. I live in port Alberni
I recently sold my Danica to a friend. I’m sure that he’ll see this and get involved in any get togethers.
Ahoy hoy...does your fleet still include the IS25?
Ahoy back! Yes I’m still the proud owner and frequent user of Gulf Mariner my IS25. However I did pass on the Danica to a friend of mine.

How much for it?

A beautiful boat. Did you make it, Llew? I'd be tempted to add a center board and simple sail rig.
I made that 20 years ago.
Nice boat. I want one, can you help me find one? I'm downsizing boat. 🙂
One just came up for sale on Facebook marketplace. They are very rare. facebook.com/marketplace/item/689264733060153/
Nice work-beautifully done! I was looking for a video that displayed the interior of a Nordica 16, and came across yours. Even though I didn’t find what I was looking for, I did benefit from seeing your craftsmanship-thanks!
Thanks, although the Danica has a slightly bigger cabin I find the Nordica a more pleasing looking boat. They are both great for minimalist cruising.
Enjoying your videos
Thanks Mike.
Is there a new internal boat tour available? Your boat becomes almost as a... Standard of Good Boat Keeping. Btw, please, based on your so valuable experiences and care, consider to write an useful short booklet over this: THE MOTOR MINI YACHT. An introduction to good practices in motor boat keeping. * Searching for, buying and getting overhanded a 2nd hand motor mini yacht. + Typical paperwar and licences, in logical order of excecution. Ensuring seaworthyness. * Enhancing the equipment and functions. Suggested gadgets, electronics and tools on board to navigate easier and safer.. * From weekend cruising to liveaboard: Strategies and Tactics. Mooring and docking. * Dry-docking and regular maintenance schedules. Checklists and Technical Logs. * Some seasonal sailing tips * Relevant picture's gallery * Bibliography and References
So nice seeing that marvel sailing. Thank you so much for sharing !!!
Thanks for your nice comments,
Just ran across these wonderful little trawlers over the weekend. Your videos almost have me sold on the IS25. I’m in Tennessee, so I’m thinking they are just small enough to be trailerable.
I know of three that are trailered.
Although it is a very nice boat!
That wasn't a good idea to turn the camera sideways!
It goes werll. I love the simple rig.
Love those sails.
Just how much of this boat did the builder make? Seems like you built half of this yourself.
You're also becoming quite the electrician, Llew. A great job.
You really have your Danica looking great. After having my Danica for many years I past it on last year and miss it dearly. Spent 30 nights on it in various places around Vancouver Island and even sailed off Nootka Sound almost out of sight of land. Whisper handled the open sea quite well. I wanted to sail the summer solstice straight out using up all the daylight. After a short night drifting sail my way back in. I chickens out when I saw I would be sitting right in the shipping lane. Once again I love what you are doing with your Danica16. I will be watching for your summer adventures. Have fun.
