TFG! What a nice Christmas Surprise! Just yesterday I was thinking about your 12/3/16 trip and how calm and relaxed the video was and was going to pull it up and rewatch it. But we got a new video and it makes my day! Now, back to video, ( I always start making comments before the show ends) Merry Christmas and thanks so much for sharing your adventures!

Merry Christmas to you too Ed. I’m glad that my little videos are of interest to you. I know that they are poorly done and lack polish but that’s the extent of what I can do. Take care.

Season's Greetings, TFG! Good instructional video for the False Narrows passage. Maybe I'll give it a try next time.

Nothing like a warm cozy boat! The boating season is all year.
Good instructions for how and when to take the short cut through False Narrows when the tide is too fast in the wrong direction at Dodd Narrows or just to save quite a bit of time if one is headed for Silva Bay or Pirates Cove, or thereabouts instead of rounding the south end of De Courcy. .

Yes when you have a boat like ours boating season never ends. False Narrows is definitely worth trying out at least once. It quite picturesque going through. Just go through slowly on a rising tide the first time and watch your depth sounder. It would be worth trying at a 10 foot tide the first time. When Dodd is packed with boats and tugs with log booms at slack tide it’s a great alternative.

Good to see you back, always loved your boat, nothing like it in the UK. Wishing you a great new year.

Just ran across these wonderful little trawlers over the weekend. Your videos almost have me sold on the IS25. I’m in Tennessee, so I’m thinking they are just small enough to be trailerable.

Such a beautiful little boat, so glad to see another video from you. I live in London and this boat would be my choice for my local water which is the river Thames.

But a Cygnus 21, and build it out. Or a Cygnus 27 and fit it out. You'll be getting a great great platform and a displacement vessel that built very well.

Good to see you out and about, Llew! Thanks for bringing us along on your cruise but you're making me jealous, ha. Orca is out of the water having an enginectomy. I'm repowering after 47 years of neglect on the old Perkins. Wish I had owned the boat much sooner and could have taken care of the engine. It'll soon be up and running once again. Have a very Merry Christmas and a happy, healthy and calm New Year!

Hi Gary, Merry Christmas it’s nice to hear from you. A new engine that’s exciting. Which model and hp did you go for?

    • @garygardens
      @garygardens 3 роки тому

@@topfunguy2281 Thanks Llew! I went with a Beta 35. It's a slower turning engine and should be quieter with less vibration than what I had. Also will be able to turn a bigger prop for more thrust. It all sounds good but I'll soon see, ha. This weather may slow thing down now.

@@garygardens If I had to get a new engine I’d get a Beta as well. I like the lower RPM range and the lower cost of parts. The Perkins are probably one of the highest revving small marine engines out there.

Beautiful country. I can image the sound of the water against the hull and fresh air.
Are there times in the passages that the water can rushing?

It is really nice here that’s for sure with endless natural beauty and clean air. Some times the current in Dodd Narrows can get as high as 10 knots. It’s quite dramatic with standing waves and whirlpools. False Narrows is not as exciting. I certainly wouldn’t go through either in anything more than a mild current but it would be nice to stand on the shore and watch.

Nice trip Llew! My brother in law was anchored in the south cove of Decourcy that day. I see you are at NC Marina, say hi to Tom for me if you see him, I bought his little boat a couple years ago!

    • @topfunguy2281

Yes it is. It uses very little fuel and heats the whole boat. I can turn it down very low or crank up the heat very hot. It is lined with cement. It has a nice oven too.

What is the temperature of the water up there in the summer? So you swim? How do you keep sharks and whales from making you lunch? I'm being serious.

Hi. Graham Mackenzie here from Lynnwood marina. Not sure how to send a private message but if you know or if you have my email would contact me? I wanted to ask about how you mounted you transducer for your depth sounder. The fellow that bought my Albin 25 is interested and I told him I’d try to contact you. Hope you’re well. Gulf Mariner is looking great as usual. Cheers.

    • @topfunguy2281

Hi Graham, nice to hear from you. Congratulations on selling your boat. I mixed up some epoxy that I think I got from Rona or Home Depot and just set the transducer in it. I made sure that both the hull and transducer were sanded clean and squished down the transducer so that it was parallel with the water.
