Thanks Philskool, I was fortunate to have someone instil the love and appreciation of boats in me at a young age. This has led an enjoyable life of messing about in boats.
What a guy! An amazing piece of work. Now you can add "shipwright" to your long list of skills. You even built the trailer. A solid beautiful sailboat that would be hard to find in today's commercial market. And a nice review of all the details. Thanks!
Bill Boyd Thanks for the nice comments. It's been years since I've sailed her. I hope to rectify that situation soon and I'll make some videos of her in action.
Super, Llew! Having had the privilege of seeing the boat in person, I can attest to how beautiful it is and shows real craftsmanship. You did a fantastic job building it (and the trailer). She was in the garage and without spars then so it's a thrill to see her fully rigged. I'd love seeing her out on the water. The challenge will be sailing it to Nanaimo, ha.
Willard Vega Voyager Hi Gary, thanks for the nice comments. She's been sitting in the garage for a while which is a shame. Every time I walk by she whispers "sail me" but as you know I've been spending all my time on the water on Gulf Mariner. I wish that I could afford to have both boats in the water. I could sail one weekend motor the next. Give me a bit of notice when you come up to Nanaimo, we'll get together.
I can only imagine the pleasure you get from sailing such a boat you built yourself. Also, what is prettier than a schooner? I sailed a small 14 foot sloop with a keel and it was the most fun and forgiving boat I ever sailed. I will go see if you have any videos of her under sail, thanks for making and sharing.
She was a joy to build and sail. There are not too many small displacement hulled sailboats out there like Blueberry which is too bad. They have some excellent characteristics.
Thank you so much for sharing this video about your boat. Your boat has a lot of great features. I especially liked the sliding seat idea for a forward berth, and the outboard motor shifting setup. I hope you don't mind if I steal some of your ideas
Filthy Scumbag Sailing Hi, absolutely go ahead and copy anything that you like. I can't think of anything I would do differently if I built this boat again. Blueberry exceeded my expectations. It's too bad that I needed to install an outboard engine to get in and out of the marina. I really think it spoils the looks. At least it tilts up out of the water so it doesn't spoil the sailing performance. I assume that you are building one. Good luck.
I've been thinking about the motor situation myself. I can't think of any decent small inboard engines. Maybe putting the outboard in a well??? Electric might work too. Yes I am building a Mary Read which is mostly the same boat stretched 2ft longer.
Really a nice boat ! Do you have any idea how much she weighs or how much balast you have in the keel ? What is the beam , maybe 6 ft. ? Nice to have a sail boat that will keep you dry while under sail ! You did a fine job building this well designed boat ! Would be nice to see her at work in the water ! Thanks for the video.
It’s been I while since I built her but I think she weighs around 2000 pounds. If I remember correctly the beam is round 6 feet or a little less. You can find all of the specs on the designers website. You can see some sailing footage on another video of mine. I hope to have her in the water this spring and take some more video at that time. Thanks.
George Tyler No, I still have Gulf Mariner and go out quite often. I've been busy moving and unpacking after living 22 years in the same house. I should have time for more videos soon. I still have my schooner as well and am looking forward to taking it sailing in the Gulf Islands next year.
Believe me. It's a beaut - in and out of the water. I've sailed in it with Llew. Extremely pleasurable.

That’s a really nice, solid boat👍
Awesome
Thanks.

Will do, Llew. Looking forward to it. Maybe late August or early September, I'll let you know
Are the plans for happy camper in Buehlers backyard boat building book?
No they aren’t unfortunately. You have to order them from the website. I’m not sure if it is still a functional website though.
@@topfunguy2281 the website is still operating and plans are still available, which is good news, cheers
@@nocontent4097 Oh good, it would be a shame if plans were no longer available. I t would be nice to see more George Buehler designed boats built.
@@topfunguy2281 I’m working on it😂
This was a wonderful tour, description and review. You are a skilled craftsman.
