The best thing about pottery is after 10 years throwing on the wheel, I can watch a video for beginners and still get useful information that will make a difference in my work. I love a round bottom bowl and have been really working on getting a beautiful curve. We've been debating at the studio go to ribbing the inside of the bowl from top to bottom or from bottom to top. Is there a technical reason you do it from top to bottom?
Starting from the top gives me more control and a better view of what is happening. It seems to be the way how most others make their bowls as well.
Please explain more in depth, that the bowl or edge gets soft. What is too soft?
@judgetoogood1033 sometimes the rim gets too soft because I is thin and exposed to water for a long time. This usually is not a big deal but you may need to cut it off to get to stiffer clay so you can finish the rim properly.
