free-festival in Albania (lawless organised chaos)
The best way to describe a Teknival is like a free-festival, with a secret location. It is completely self-sufficient and organised on the basis of a shared love for electronic music and dancing.
No ticket is required to attend, meaning pretty much anyone can turn up so long as they know the whereabouts.
We started hitchhiking to the location the moment we arrived in Albania, and had to carry all of our food and water with us, as there would not be any taps or amenities where we were going.
All we had in terms of a location was a set of coordinates, so when the road ended and turned to sand, it became a guessing game.
There was a set starting date, which was the 31st of August, but the end of the party would be determined by whenever people felt like moving on.

THE BORDER TO RUSSIA HITCHHIKING - soviet Russian town in Estonia
Переглядів 940Рік тому
Exploring the Russian/Estonian border town of Narva, which is located in north east Estonia, and has a huge river going through it dividing the two countries. I delve into the history of the place, how its Soviet past still has effects on the people living there today, and how hard it has been for its people to adapt to more modern Estonian culture due to the high influence from Russia within t...
lives of CHILDREN in Cairos GARBAGE SLUM - recycling Egypt

The Zabaleen (which in Arabic means garbage people) have informally been responsible for collecting Cairos trash for almost a century. Their battle for survival against the Egyptian government and the rest of Egyptian society as a whole are endless. In 2004 the government set a contract for corporate firms to collect the trash instead. This was in attempt to make the waste management of the cit...
girls hitchhiking through COLOMBIA - positive experience

The SACRED South American COCA leaf - indigenous communities
Переглядів 15 тис.2 роки тому
Whilst I was in South America, I was surprised when I noticed how normal it was for Coca leaves to be for sale all over the place. I was aware that people chewed them out here to help with the altitude, but not to the extent that I was witnessing. I became curios, and started interviewing people chewing it on the street, and even had the opportunity to go into the Amazon Rainforest to work on a...
sailing to SOUTH AMERICA - hitchhiking on a CARIBBEAN cruise to Colombia via SAN BLAS ISLANDS
Переглядів 5 тис.2 роки тому
After spending nearly five months hitchhiking from Mexico, my ride to Colombia was finally in sight. However it wasn't as simple as putting my thumb out and waiting for someone to stop for me. It involved working on a boat for six days, cruising though the Caribbean, meeting the kuna tribe and witnessing drug chases on Colombian waters. Certainly a more intense ride than my average hitchhike. I...
ILLEGALLY crossing into panama WITHOUT KNOWING and SLEEPING IN A FIRE STATION - girls hitchhiking

In this video, Julka and I hitchhike from Costa Rica to the border with Panama, staying in the house of one of our drivers which felt incredibly dodgy, however ended up fine. We then entered Panama illegally without even realising, and had to tun back to Costa Rica, and re-enter illegally, to enable us to leave officially. When we eventually managed to find our way into Panama properly, we head...

Julka and I continue the journey through Costa Rica, taking it easy, just hitchhiking an hour or two each day. taking our time and enjoying the beaches. one of our drivers tells us he is going to a town with a large port, so we decide to go with him and start the search for the boat to Colombia. Colombia is also the most expensive country in Central America, due to the amount of expats living t...
wild camping in Costa Rica and SLEEPING ON A FISHING BOAT - one year travel anniversary
Переглядів 2,9 тис.2 роки тому
I met up with another hitchhiker, Julia, who I met in Mexico. She was also hitchhiking the whole way down to Colombia. We heard that camping on beaches in Costa Rica is not illegal like many other countries, and considering Costa Rica is one of the most famous countries in the world for its beaches, off we went. It then occurred to me that exactly to this day, I had been travelling for one year...
lost in NICARAGUA - sleeping in a strangers house - solo female hitchhiking Nicaragua
Переглядів 1,1 тис.3 роки тому
It was my first day in Nicaragua, an I was aiming to arrive at my new Workaway project that evening. I took what looked like the shorted route on the map, not realising this meant dirt track roads that curved around mountains, and in fact driving triple the distance I would have if I took the 'longer' route on the map. My hitchhiking driver apologised and said I had to get out of the lorry beca...

Before heading to El Salvador, (where I was before Honduras) I had some suspicions about the safety of the country, and what it would actually be like. Of corse, I had an incredible time and was gifted by the kindness of strangers, this gave me more hope to go and discover Honduras, which is also stereotypically a very 'dangerous' country. I couchsurfed for two weeks, and hitchhiked around the ...
what is EL SALVADOR really like? - one of the highest murder rates in the world
Переглядів 1,5 тис.3 роки тому
For me, this video is a lesson. A lesson of how media statistics can scare people and distort their ideas on what the reality of being in certain countries are. Just because a country is 'dangerous', does not mean that all the people are bad. I went to El Salvador with an awareness that it had an incredibly bad stereotype for being violent and dangerous. It also has one of the highest murder / ...

Hitchhiking from Guatemala to El Salvador. It turned out that I had been illegally in Guatemala for a month without knowing, because of police corruption on the Mexico / Guatemala border. I slept at the border, and made friends with a local girl, who showed me everything aro...

This is naïve personified. Geezus,... idiots. Anyone watching this, don't do about 90% of what they did - they got extremely lucky. Every scene in this s***-show could have gone the other way and before any of you say: "omg so brave..." if they actually knew the risks they were running, they wouldn't have done any of this. Riding on top of a tanker, packing too much gear in a country like Mexico where you might need to haul ass at a second's notice, etc.. I've rode trains for over a decade now and have seen people get smoked for far, far less. Rich kids, most likely.

The guilty are those who produce cocaine with impure ingredients that make the medicine become addictive; if cocaine would be produced through pure Coca leaves with no chemical addictive ingredients, as in was centuries ago, it would be legal and curative. Thus I don't consider myself guilty when I buy cocaine for my personal medicinal use, even knowing that it contains erosive chemicals, but at the end the balance is more positive than negative in using it. We strive for a more just and coherent pharmacological industry, even when we are denied what makes us feel better.

Coca leaves are only illegal in the U.S. because they know some dummy is gonna get a garbage bag full and synthicize it into cocaine themselves. The gov't just doesn't want the headache. But you can find it here in NYC if you look hard enough and the people at the market can trust you. I had it before. It feels like drinking a cup of coffee early in the morning and your'e alert. But due to my job i can't have it. It was no big deal tho. Like a cup of coffee and a shot of espresso mixed together.
