Lesson 17 - Diatonic Harmony a la Mode
Переглядів 1,2 тис.Рік тому
Why do we keep seeing the same chord combinations in different songs? What scales do we use to solo over chords in a progression?
Lesson 9 - Notation And Rhythm
Переглядів 2,5 тис.Рік тому
Reading music is simple if you get it explained to you the right way. Scotty demystifies this important subject. Remember ... watch these 32 lessons in order to get maximum benefit.
Lesson 24 - Playin' The Blues
Переглядів 714Рік тому
Blues has many similarities to classic western music but also has some interesting and readily observable differences.
Lesson 8 - Caveman Music Theory
Переглядів 3 тис.Рік тому
There are an infinite number of musical pitches. Where did our 12 note per octave come from? You'll find the first pitch relationships we ever discovered are still the most important today.
Lesson 28 - Chord Voicing
Переглядів 496Рік тому
Every chord has one "spelling" but those notes can be played in any octave or any order. This means there are often many ways to play the same chord.
Lesson 13 - More About Intervals
Переглядів 1,9 тис.Рік тому
Now that you understand intervals, you have to memorize them all 4 ways. THINK - READ - HEAR - SPEAK
Lesson 31 - Modulation and Substitution
Переглядів 356Рік тому
A lot of very interesting music doesn't stay in just one defined key. This is call Modulation. Also we'll learn about various ways to embellish and modify chord progressions. This is called Substitution.
Lesson 12 - Intervals
Переглядів 3 тис.Рік тому
Music doesn't come down to what notes you play so much as it comes down to the SPACING of the notes from one another. That makes INTERVALS just about the most important subject in all of music.
Lesson 29 - More About Chord Voicing
Переглядів 370Рік тому
Learn about 4 part harmony and voice leading.
Lesson 21 - Pentatonic Modes
Переглядів 726Рік тому
Like any scale, Pentatonic Scales have modes. They often function as simplified Diatonic Modes.
Lesson 6 - Still More About Chords
Переглядів 3,7 тис.Рік тому
Here we learn how to play and name our 6 types of chords in all keys and finger forms. Remember ... watch the 32 lessons IN ORDER to get the maximum benefit.
Lesson 23 - Modal Music
Переглядів 549Рік тому
Some progressions aren't exactly in a major or minor key. They relate more to one of the other modes. Scotty demystifies this fascinating subject.
Lesson 25 - Blues Jam With Dan Lawson
Переглядів 601Рік тому
Legendary blues man Dan Lawson runs us through some of his favorite riffs and soloing tricks. Your jam tracks are dubbed onto the end of this lesson as well.
Lesson 2 - 4 Ways To Know Your Pitch Patterns

Lesson 2 - 4 Ways To Know Your Pitch Patterns
Get Scotty some water!
Love these lessons. Sometimes, when Scotty turns his head...he looks like Bubbles from TPB.
Came from reddit to give this a try. Here's hoping 🙏
Playback speed x2 😂😂😂
finishing this whole series
Ohhhhhh Voooooowww Sir..!!! So thorough a knowledge about the very basic concepts of everything about Guitar is so thoroughly explained by you that it's directly and thoroughly stored into my Heart. You have got a very pleasing way of tuting..!!! I don't know how should I thank you but I pray 🙏🙏🙏 to my Lord Swaminarayan for your All Good 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Audio weird on this one?
Thanks, learned a lot!
once again thanks scotty!
Scotty’s patience around the 8:45 mark is really impressive lol
I am in awe. Two months ago I didn't even really know what a note was. Now I can take most pieces of music, derive its structure, make it easier to play and even give myself a framework from which to jam over it. This course has made such a difference in the way I approach music. Love you Scotty! Thank you so much for putting this online.
finally I did!!!🎉🎉 thanks sooooo much❤
Congratulations to all fellas that made it to the very end! Absolutely Unbelievable Great course :)
hi scott, i tried purchasing the handbook on your website, but it dosent allow me to buy it, i stay in ASIA by the way, is it because its not sold internationally?
this guy is the GOAT man
🗣️ WE WANT THE 5 CHORD MAJOR!!!
The grind will continue
thanks
I'm confused! Are Dan and his Uncle Roy Parks just like any of other 20 players in every town, or are they something special? 😂 Mixed messages. (The answer is the latter, but I have to think Dan was annoyed.)
"That seems as though, then, that this song is probably in the key of E minor." Glad it's not just me who doesn't always find it obvious.
You are absolutely right Scott Sir ; in last 5 to 6 years I have gone through a lot of Guitar Theories and Tutorials but have never come across such so useful basic concepts and secrets of the Guitar 🎸 !!! Voooooowww..!! Amazing man, Amaaazziiiing...!!! God bless you so much 🙏👍👌
Does it make sense to play open strings when playing a scale? I tend to like the sound but it seems to be unconventional.
😮 im about to make music
This is sooo good, especially after spending all that time on scales the chords make so much more sense.
Here from Reddit and bought the PDF. Great resource! That slide rule is awesome
Ohhhhh Voooow voooow Sir..!!! What a series of Nicely and well structured Videos on tuting soooooo thoroughly and elementary the very very basics of Music Theory and how to make it foundation for the true and proper playing Guitar and other instruments too .!!! Lord Swaminarayan bless you and your family 💕💕🙏👍👌 and your whole Team 🙏👍
The silent night example was the ultimate dot-connector for me, but I would not have understood it had I not watched all the prior videos. I’m convinced, Scotty.
Thanks, Scotty.
I love how this is so idiot friendly
Also here from reddit 😂 long live reddit Also I really like this man and the way he teaches. Will watch the whole series thank you to the person who uploaded thid
Hi Scotty, just want to say thank you for the course. Your love for music really comes through and makes the subject more enjoyable.
This is good, but it’s also an accurate a little bit biased, Mike Stern is not better than Jimi Hendrix. Eddie Van Halen did more for the electric guitar in the last 50 years than anybody else so well Joe passes incredible. He’s not better than Eddie Van Halen in a real sense.
Continue to be amazed by the pedagogy on display here. You are an excellent teacher.
This analysis presupposes the 3 halfstep distance between the scale root and the chord root is maintained through the progression. Why is that presumed? Back when we played 1-4-5 starting with Ionian, you had the scale root change along with the chord root, which was enlightening. Now the roots are different, but the distance is constant. Will this get messy once key changes are introduced?
Made it to the end! I already knew the theory parts, but I really needed a systematic way to apply scales, arpeggios, and intervals to the guitar. I have a lot of work ahead of me.
What's fascinating about this lesson is that while it looks like there is a lot of new complexity, it really just builds off the diatonic mode. Thanks to musical number theory you just shift from the diatonic to get your new patterns so it leads to far less cognitive load. You learn the major diatonic and then shift.
This is definitely an incredible guitar course that can give guitar lovers a clear path to understand what they are doing or will do on their guitars. Thank you so much, Scotty!
:)
how do you like that?
I’ve never thought of each chord change as a change in mode. I’ve been trying to make sense of how chord progressions and melodies go together, and have been told to just play what sounds nice together. Your thought process makes much more sense!
I wanted MP3s of the Mode Jam Tracks, so I downloaded the audio from lesson 25 and cut it up. Hopefully this can help others as well who have made it this far: drive.google.com/file/d/1GrZ3YFhHcgfqRuG2OmIKpMvE0ebucDO0/view?usp=sharing
can confirm this is real. I downloaded it and my computer has not exploded. Thank you friend!
Thank you! I really feel like im ready to jump into anything with regards to music theory now.
Found a lot of this on my own while noodling on the guitar, all based on the previous videos. Just had a lot of fun finding new ways to make a chord with a root note randomly on the fretboard. Very cool to see it has been conceptually mapped out already.
Scotty I'm so glad I found these videos! Thanks for such a great tool! Gotta say your meditations on continuum and cavemen music has me appreciating you for more than your great teaching!
48:00
I picked up this video series because I really wanted to find out how to construct melodies and jam. This episode delivered.
Me Too... thanks to the Reddit poster. Great stuff - Much appreciated!
I gotta know if those are the David Gilmour EMG pickups...

I'm so happy I made it this far. All I really want to learn is how to improvise and this was super clear.
