I feel like things Scotty is teaching here are the basic logics for the prevalent concepts people are learning nowadays for example the CAGED system. However he really delivers those in a logical and from-the-bottom way, which seems a bit redundant at first but much more effective for me to have an understanding of the whole picture.

Scotty is the GOAT. Just FYI Mexican Sierreño music do a lot of the shift that scotty says it's difficult. Their scales Jump from 5, 6, 7 and 8th frets to 1, 2, 3 and 4th.
Even though they seem difficult they're not if you practice enough and most of the genres rrpeat the same scales. I guess thats why they're called genres and have very specific tecniques.

Ascend the scale with index shifts. Descend the scale with pinky shifts.

I understand it...but how will I ever learn these let alone get my fingers to stretch across frets and obey my brain's command? Not to mention all the other scales in other modes to come. It seems impossible 😭

Keep practicing! If you did the finger exercises from the beginning courses you shouldn't have too much trouble 😊 happy trails!

I reached that same impasse last lesson and paused my progress to work on the two ways to play the major, until that started to get automatic. Next is the minor scale. I noticed my fingers getting a little quicker and my ears noticing more.

@@woollybear3328 just learn the major scale. Everything else is an offset of the major scale in the musical number system.
EDIT: After a few months of playing, I came to a different conclusion. Learn the major and minor pentatonic, they are easier. Then if you know the major pentatonic, it is a next step to add the notes to make it any major scale. Same with the minor pentatonic. This makes learning it a bit easier since you have less cognitive overhead as you start with only 5 notes.

@@patrickoneal3498 It takes real dedication! I'm on year 2 of playing the guitar and it took me ages just to get the easiest pattern of the major scale memorised. Not sure I have brain cells left for all these others.
