Uncovering the True Beauty of the Caribbean : An Eye Opening Experience
Sailing through the beautiful bule Caribbean waters has been truly an unforgettable journey-a mix of awe and revelation. While this paradise is breathtaking, there have been moments in certain anchorages where we feared for our safety, feeling vulnerable in the beauty that surrounded us.
Yet, those challenges have taught us so much. With every visit, we’ve learned to embrace the rhythm of these islands, shifting from being mere visitors to feeling a deeper connection to the land and its people. The more we see, the more it feels like we’re discovering these beautiful places for the first time, falling in love with the Caribbean all over again.

    Another great journey guys, some of scenery of the Islands you past is just beautiful and you only get those views from looking in from the ocean or the drone of course. Obviously some great cruising around the whole Caribbean as you've shown in earlier videos but having to be aware of the Hurricane season and making sure you are somewhere safe, looking at what the Hurricane that went through recently certainly reeked havoc the way it turned back on itself but of course I don't know where you are in real time relative to what I saw on the news here in NZ, looking forward to your next adventure 👍👍🇳🇿

    It's wild that the guy that owns that beach bar is leading folks to believe he has any connection whatsoever to Stanley Selengut's Maho Bay Camps. Maho Bay Camps , if it had not been pushed out of business by some other millionaires before the beach bar was even a twinkle in anybody's eye, would have been horrified to see that development around the corner.

    I know what you mean about boat jobs, during the time I spent sailing with friends many of those journeys occurred when I had been ask to have a look at a minor issue with their engine or maybe it's the gearbox, now Josh you what it's like when you're head and shoulders in the engine bay working with a and a torch tyring to explain to the owner that it's not a minor problem at all, and then coming up from there to ask how much they can afford 😰😰. Being the likable person that I was I never charged anyone for my time because parts are expensive and I love sailing so I have enjoyed a number of trips around the coastline of NZ. Now as for Kevin I think it was very inappropriate behavior when he failed in his duty 🤔🤔 as for the rest of your journey I hope all goes well for you ❤❤👍👍🇳🇿😊

    • @sailinghonutime
      @sailinghonutime 17 днів тому

      Yes there are a lot places we can't anchor in the Bahamas because of our draft. For the most part though if you time it right you can get in and out of a location with the incoming tide. But... that is also why we have such a kick ass dinghy. It takes us everywhere we can't get with Honu. Sharks have never been a big issue. We do a walk around the boat before we jump in and if we are spear fishing we are extra careful to get the fish out of the water ASAP. That is when they are most active.

    Nice boat. I had a Hunter 376 for 14 years. I sailed it a lot in the Gulf of Mexico off Texas coast and crossed the Gulf a couple of times. After being a liveaboard for 7 years, I was able to talk my boss into letting me work from the boat, so I left in 2012 to go cruising. I started out sailing to the keys, then the Bahamas then straight to Colombia. After Panama I sailed back to the Bahamas and then did the eastern Caribbean. By the time I got to Grenada I decided to go west. Met my now wife, a local who worked the restaurant on the water in Tonga, and 3 weeks after we got married she got pregnant. The 3 of us sailed to Fiji and that is when I decided I wanted a bigger boat. I was looking for a Hunter 50 CC but ran across this boat we have now, a Whitby 55. It's an old boat but one of the best built boats ever. Hunters make good boats. I heard all the bs from others but they didn't know what they were talking about. I will tell you though that Hunters like it best at 23 degrees heel. That is their sweet spot. It maximizes it's speed and is very stable. At 15 degrees, where most like it including my wife, the boat will roll a lot. Assuming you have the same rudder as I did, and I think the 2001 models did, on your next haulout you may want to consider adding an inch to the leading edge of the rudder. That is the one bad thing about those boats, the rudder puts a lot of stress on the steering gear and the helmsman. I was waiting on a boat when hauled out on an atoll in the south pacific and there was nothing to do so I have it a try. I dropped the rudder and added 2 inches to the leading edge. It perfectly balanced the rudder. My very next sail was to Tahiti and it was amazing. I was doing 8 knots, heeled over 23 degrees, had 5 degrees of weather helm and I could steer with 1 finger. Now many don't like it totally balanced which is why I suggest 1 inch instead of 2 like I did. My autopilot loved the change too. One night I was sailing in 28 knots of true wind, running with it wing and wing and the boat was doing a steady 9 knots in the water and the autopilot was perfect. It handled the large following waves with ease. Good thing to because any mistake in that wind and setup would have been disasterous. Until I made that change, the autopilot struggled a lot in larger seas and strong winds. To make the change you don't have to cut anything on the rudder. Just sand the paint off and add some spray foam, shape it, fine tune with boat bondo, then cover with about 5 sheets of fiberglass (maybe a little bondo to smooth it), then jelcoat and finally paint. Easy. I actually didn't use boat bondo but epoxy with filler to make a bondo. It actually is stronger than Bondo but harder to do. She can handle all kinds of winds as long as you balance the sails. With both being roller furling that is easy to do.

    • @sailinghonutime
      @sailinghonutime 17 днів тому

      @sailinghonutime yeah, when I lay down I only cover around 36 square feet. Most people don't know the difference between want and need.

    I would have probably sat for hours before my husband noticed. It did take Josh a hot second to notice. Great video as always.
