- When you travel to as many different countries as we have over the last couple of years you run into some that are amazing and some that you just know; you are really not welcome here.
Martinique has so many wonderful things to offer. Whether it’s in the boating community, rich culture or amazing food (When you can get it). But the one thing we are really struggling with is the language barrier. We try our very best to speak the language of the country we are in. I’m not saying we are fluent, but we really try. For the most part we all communicate quite well. Until we Don’t…

Hello from Canada. It’s Jacq and Dave from “Sailing With Jacq” on Lady Nathalie we have met in Antigua at the Cantina the Mexican Restaurant/ Bar at Jolly Harbour Marina. Had also seen you sailing around a couple of other times around Antigua in February-April. Hope your two are still enjoying the sailing. We are back home again in Ontario since April 17th and cant wait to go back at the earliest if all goes well in October. So missing the sailing lifestyle and the ocean waters with all our friends. I have to say we have had that same experience in almost all French speaking Islands. They are so incredible beautiful to see for the lush and greenness. The people though it definitely is a disappointment for them not to be more freindlier to English speaking people especially since we bring money to the Island and are like you trying very hard to speak even if it is only a little broken French. At least we try. It is very sad as both Dave and I are kind of trying to avoid those Islands as beautiful as they are. Anyway I truly hope you both are have in a fantastic time sailing and hope to see you in the coming season October to April/May 2024-2025 stay in touch. Jacqueline and Dave @sailingwithjacq
Hey thanks for reaching out! We are so far behind in this ans trying to catch up, we have been without internet the past week ans half. We just arrived into the Azores yesterday AM. What a wild ride! Stay in touch for sure and look forward to catching up next cruising season! Ps it's cold here, can't wait to get back to the Carribean ⛵️🤙
I will forever be impressed by how much you two can tackle in one day! Beasts! 💪 ❤️
Haha, she's a slave driver! 😂
Thanks for the videos.
Glad you like them!
Ok we miss the Caribbean already. Now we’ll just live vicariously through you guys. Thanks!
One day we'll all meet back up again in the beautiful Caribbean. Can't wait to follow you guys in your next adventures.
I put bottom paint on the bottom of my dinghy. And it worked Great. But I did put copper in my bottom paint. It helps keep the growth down a bunch. And it would last about 3 years.
Ok Thanks for letting us to come along your Journey.
Maybe we will see 👀 your sails ⛵️ on the Horizon someday from our lanai.
Until next time ⏲️, Aloha from the Big Island of Hawaii!
That's a great idea! Oh we hope to sail to Hawaii one day. On our list! Cheers! ⛵️🤙
Shouda' yelled "STARBORD" adding a few hand gestures!!!
Starboard tack always has the right of way and you appear to have had just that! Plus, you were under sail when they approached so they are required to turn to port to go behind you. Amazing some just don't use common sense. Glad you and Honu Time are unscathed! And I agree with others here, just walk away. They don't want your money, don't give it to them!
I like that mentality you don't want our cash that's fine. Happy to spend it elsewhere. Cheers Mark! ⛵️
Hey guys take the dingy to the beach, take a bucket and some garden gloves, turn the dingy upside down and rub it's bum with wet sand, maybe that's worth a try before harsh chemicals, All the best, Al
That's a good option, it's just crazy that it's so stained despite lifting it every night
You can try rubbing cocconut oil on it its reported as a anti fouling agent.
Have you ever tried bleaching water to clean? It works good
We have not actually but we will give it a try! Thanks!
Love you guys❤Stay safe
Thank you, love you too! ❤️
It's the same in Europe but remember you are in charge of your money, always walk away. Don't treat me like $hit and think I'll pay for it.....
True you win some and you lose some!
Is that just cosmetic rust on the stanchions or something more serious, up near the bow. Looks pretty severe but only saw it for a second or two, probably nothing
Yeah just cosmetic, it's funny how stainless will rust down here in the carib, the east coast no problems but down here its a battle!
I’ll be that guys makes a shitty daiquiri anyway!! Love you guys! ❤️
Haha, probably 🤣
Building muscles from mussels, why not. Your French is c'est, magnifique and their English is probably perfect they're just bloody minded. Plenty of ignorance on the water. You have to think for them and know that they'll probably do the wrong thing. Stay safe.
Haha, thanks John. Always appreciate your comments! ⛵️👌
Is there any french community that is nice to English speaking people ???? If so, where ????
I am French and nice :-), It s true to say that you need to know some tricks and how it is working the " french way". Once you know it, you will find life easier and enjoy our french islands. Anyway if anyone need advices, happy to help! I am thinking about creating a french consulting office for foreigner sailors as I can see there always are the same issues... :-)
It's always been very interesting to us as we are put going and always polite and friendly, but we will continue to try.. win some lose some but we love the food islands and once they warm up.. the people.
Awesome, you could offer online coaching haha. Cheers!
@@sailinghonutime heyhey that s a good idea, i really might think about it. Against few dollars, sailors will enjoy at 100% their journey instead of struggling with stupidity sometimes. Looking forward your next ep. Best
Research adding copper to your bottom paint. If your launch has an aluminum haul, that could cause problems.
That's how the French are
We try not to take it personal but it's hard when your not used to it.
Cheers ⛵️
Not cool at all. So sorry that happened! Regardless of everything, you were under sail and they were motoring…thus, slowing down to go behind you would’ve been the right thing to do. They were just being careless, rude, jerks! We call those people “boatholes”! Fair winds…
Boatholes😂😂😂 I like that
Star bright rib cleaner
We picked some up to try! Thanks ⛵️
In these situations its always best to NAME and SHAME.
We actually cut that part out when we were radioing them ans telling them how much we appreciated their seamanship. ⛵️
Come on guys, yeah they did you dirty but the truth is that they were the starboard boat which made them the stand on boat and made you the give way boat. That's why you alway hear sailboat racers yelling "STARBOARD!". to demand right of way. You were also both on a port tack which also means you were the windward boat, thus, the give way boat.
Please tell me where you saw Honu on port and the other boat on starboard.
Anyone that would sail that close in an ocean of space and then yell out commands for right of way is an idiot. That’s not a “sailor”, that’s a potential upcoming problem for others. I love your channel and watch every Saturday morning from Ontario. Keep up the fun and laughter. We all need more of that x1000.
I agree that if they were sailing on our SB side, they would have 100% of had the right away. But they motored all the way towards us, then started hoisting their sails, still motoring. We were on a very lovely SB tack having a wonderful sail when they forced us to turn, causing our sails to flip very forcefully and threw us into a port tack. It's all about safety first and following seamanship, and then there is being a bully, and that 100% not cool.
It was kinda like a T bone situation 😳
“Sailing bully”. Perfect description. Let’s close this thread, go sailing, laugh, smile and enjoy.
Interesting. Some advice from a 50+ year sailing solo sailor, wear sun screen. Always! Just found this video so haven’t watched to se how long you’ve been sailing but you’re both skin cancer in flip flops 🩴 on steroids!!! I highly recommend Hawaiian Tropic (pinacolada scent, there’s something in Ron’s chemical makeup that protects way better than this newer commercialized sun screens). But yeah at no time should a sailor be lobster red!! Just ask Jimmy Buffet RIPsailor 🌬️🎣🤿⛵️ Fair winds and Fins Up to you both!
Thank you. We are getting much better at remembering the sunscreen 😎
