    In Australia we play almost 90 % of club and tournament rounds as stableford. My coach has set me a challenge of playing 3 rounds in a row with out having a pick up or no points on hole. This means on a difficult par 4 hole i can still make a 6 DBogey and score a point. On holes where i dont get a shot this means having no worse than a bogey.. I should add that wipe a hole (more than a net DB) is very detrimental to score, and usually comes from playing too aggressive on one of shots on hole.. This strategy to not have a Pick up requires patients and playing for a bogey, rather than ripping it to have an elusive birdie 4 point hole.

    I have given up trying to win Nearest the pin in competitions. So many greens are set up with suckrr pins. Most winnrrs of NTPs hit by luck. Ps from 170 yds=160m i am laying up.

    Great video. I'll give these drills a try. I have the yips. It's an involuntary twitch of the right hand, just before impact. And it's so debilitating. I have to putt left handed just to get around the course and it's hard to see the line from that side of the ball.

    Yes. Good advice to play to your handicap. Good advice to play to your strengths and think about where you’re going to use those extra shots. But if you’re an 18 handicap, that means you’re normally hitting in the high 80s or low 90s and you’re regularly making some pars and even some birdies. If you’ve hit 100, then yeah… you’ve pretty much blown up the course.

  • @ra1der5
    @ra1der5 10 днів тому

    Sooo… if we’ve got a shot that is 100 yards out, we should NOT be going for the GREEN (not the pin, just the green)? That’s right; chip it up closer to 30-10 yards out and from there take out your 7 or 9 iron and do a little bump and run. H3ll, we won’t hit the green 80% of the time anyway, so no sense trying. This advice adds a stroke for no reason. 100 yards in is EXACTLY the time an EIGHTEEN HANDICAP should be going for the green. Otherwise you’ve just turned a potential bogey into a double for no reason.

    My home course is Cordova Bay Golf Club Victoria BC Canada 🇨🇦 . It's a very nice course. Oddly it has 11 bunkers long left. There were 3 more holes I could have counted but strictly speaking they were a very short measure making it not long or more back than left. By a small marjin

    I was a 6.4. My pet peeve is aiming 25 feet right and hitting exactly where I aimed. I don't freak out, but inside, I'm thinking why i didn't hit 12 feet left. Aiming to the safe spot will save you shots in the end

    He is 100% right about looking at the target to get a reading on distance control, however, I think he’s wrong about over-reading break. I think amateurs under-read break by a factor of 2 or 3 times the break. Try this in practice: read your putt then triple the amount of break you initially read then putt that line.

    Heck for me, coming back after 13 years off, and only just shooting 91 92 my last couple of times out, I'm perfectly happy to live with a double on the #1 handicap hole if things go south, or on any of the tough holes. Just not too many of them. :)

    Handicap’s are a load of baloney, you step up to a par four , the course is challenging you to get a par four or better, anything else is just massaging your ego , the trick is not to get upset when the course beats you , enjoy the challenge

    You simply need to spot putt! And the 11% comes from playing for money, otherwise they could be around 50% especially if they played a practice round having charted each green!!

    If you have a dispersion of 100ft with a wedge, you are not in a position to score. You should be on the range with lessons and playing from the forward tees.

    I'm a 5 handicap. I never aim at the pin, even with a wedge (full wedge, not pitch shots). I aim at the middle of the green virtually every time. If I end up close to the pin it's because......I got lucky.

    I used to play golf 25 years ago every summer, all summer, in high school. At my best I would shoot 48-ish on 9 holes, so I guess that's 95 - 100, or roughly a 28 handicap. All that to say I've recently got back in the game and am pretty terrible. Shot 112 last week. Pretty sure I lost the most balls I can ever remember, LOL. Anyways, I watched this video two days ago and finally played 9 holes today. Knocked 5-shots off of my score! Shot a 51, ha. Roll that forward for 18 holes and that'd be 10 shots better, simply by playing more to my skill level and applying some course management...who would have thought it was that easy! Haha. Kept my driver in the bag, with my longest club being an 11 wood (5 iron equivalent) which is probably the best club in my bag. Biggest problem for me now is simply duffing and/or topping shots that go like 50 yards...still better than being OB with my driver! Hopefully those will come with time. Your tips worked great! 👍

  • @jayroxy9040
    @jayroxy9040 Місяць тому

    I use a similar strategy. Instead pulling my driver 240yds into the woods I use my 6 iron, and pull that 160 yds into the woods.

  • @YourBoySB

    Good advice. Bad golf course management and ego are card killers. I struggle with both and went from a 10 to a 15 since last spring.

  • @Churlyboy1
    @Churlyboy1 Місяць тому

    It seems like giving up. If I'm shooting over 100 or 90, then I'd rather learn how to hit driver or 3 wood more effectively rather than settle for a few shots less.

    • @thescoringmethod
      @thescoringmethod Місяць тому

      But it’s phase 1 you have to learn how to go down the bunny run before you go down the double black diamond. Once you have a first gear club, your goal second third and fourth.

    To avoid blow up holes I stop counting strokes after my ball touches the green.

  • @johnmiller7682
    @johnmiller7682 Місяць тому

    The number one way to eliminate blow up holes is to play smart. If you hit into the trees and have a choice between chipping directly onto the fairway or going between trees and advancing the ball much much farther. Most people will opt to advance the ball. After all, you're thinking you need to make up for that bad shot. Hitting through trees is not the way to do it. The same goes for bunker shots. If you're in a fairway bunker, don't try and advance the ball. Just get it back out to the fairway. How many times have people hit into a fairway bunker, then try to advance the ball, only to wind up in the same bunker, another bunker, the rough, or any number of bad locations? All because they're trying to hit the hero shot.
