Glad I came across your page. I’m 60 and a retired veteran and also my battle buddy is gonna join me. I was wondering if I start up mid range (adventure bike) would it be ok? Or should I start small (got my eye on Cf moto 450 mt) I’m coming from a Harley full dresser to ADV riding. I’ve thrown my Electra glide around and a lil weight I can handle. I’m a big fella 6’ 265…I was thinking that 450 may get “bogged” down .

Good timing. I’ve been contemplating purchase of an ADV bike, likely a Tuareg, and whether or not I’m too old at 65. Definitely been some changes the last few years but this gives me encouragement to just go for it….

Fully agree. Yes things are changing while you grow older but that's a part of our life we can deal with if we want to. I turned 67 last month but as soon as I sit on one of my motorcycles the feeling isn't that much different then 20 or 30 years ago. I don't pay attention to age. Sometimes it tries to remind me but I ignore it. I'm 61. At some time I may have to pay attention to it but not today. Too much yet to accomplish. My wife says I'm just stubborn. She may be right.

As a sidenote, smaller front sprocket, more aggressive tires and stiffen up the suspension, you'd be suprised how good the Aprilia is on single track...ask. me how I know !

Love your videos. But with all due respect faster riders need a Husky 501 or 350 or a KTM 690. A Yamaha WR250R suspension and motor would not be able to handle the faster guys. I use to have a DRz 400 and realized that going at fast speed over tough terrain is not good due to the lack of suspension. I now have a KTM 350 that can handle aggressive riding. The DRZ, Wr250r, CRF etc models are good for new riders or experienced riders just out for a joy ride. Happy Trailing:)

Awesome. I have a CRF300, and while I agree with your thinking that a small bike is great for the rough stuff I have been considering a middle weight for the highway benefits. My top two choices are the RE 450 ( but not sure this is enough bigger) and my number one is the Tuareg for all the reasons you just outlined! Looking forward to seeing what adventures you get into with this bike and if it should be my choice also!

JR, watched all your newer adventures, but just got around to this one. I live in Texas now (32 years) but grew up in WA on Lake Chelan! Pack wood, Wenatchee, all old places that bring back memories!
