There are few hitters who could stand toe-to-toe with Ty Cobb when it comes to hitting. George Sisler, legendary first baseman of the St. Louis Browns is one of them. It's Jimmie Foxx, who in his his prime played for the Philadelphia Athletics and the Boston Red Sox. He combined power and a high batting average like few players did in the history of the game. And like Ruth , he also had a career (though brief) as a pitcher. In this video, let's explore the le...

Baseball's Triple Crown Winners. Should they automatically be named MVP? #baseballtrivia
Переглядів 6 тис.2 місяці тому
Winning baseball's triple hitting crown is probably the greatest proof of a player's hitting prowess. You could argue that he was probably the best hitter of that season. It is also so rare that only sixteen men have attained it in the major leagues. But do you know that the only man to win it twice didn't win the MVP award those seasons. One triple crown winner even placed sixth, while another...

Quiz Time: How well do you know baseball history? #baseball #baseballtrivia
When you are illiterate how can you know what you’re signing. Comiskey’s lawyer probably lied on what he was signing.
John Sanford used Redd Foxx as his stage name.Jimmie Foxx was the inspiration for the name.
3 complete game shutouts in a single World Series. Christy Mathewson, 1905.
Walter Johnson’s record for shutouts. Hitting .400 is probably never going to happen. Didn’t realize Uncle Robby had those 2 records. Great stuff
Johnson retired in 1927
There is a statute of George Sisler outside Busch stadium among statures of Cardinals players. Although the 1944 Browns team was their only pennant winner, the 1922 Browns were actually their best team. I think he had an injury that hurt him late in the season and the Browns barely missed winning the pennant instead of the Babe Ruth led Yankees.
It still is second only to Ty Cobb's. Hornsby is the greates secind baseman and right hand hitter ever.
Good stuff right there. Love baseball.
You don’t trade Old Pete for Pickles. It’s a bad idea.
What were his best pitches? Fast ball, curve, screwball, slider?
since they have interleague play they should just award just one cy young.
Walter Johnson by a country mile
Not a fan of the idea that the best hitter in the league is the default choice as MVP, but Gehrig was definitely a two-way player. Gomez led the AL in wins 22 years before the Cy Young Award was created, so he has a good case. Detroit won the pennant, but three Tigers in the top five is two too many. Rowe was 24-8, so he deserves to be in the top three. There doesn't seem to be a good argument for Cochrane other than the fact that he was voted the award.
His performance in 1905 World Series is simply unbelievable being that it was performed in such a short span the last game on 2 days rest and think of all the innings thrown up to that point. Awesome video keep em coming
Yes, there has never been a performance comparable to Mathewson's during the 1905 World Series.
He is a top five pitcher for sure agree with earlier comments Young,Johnson, Matty, Grove and Alexander.
I like both, but I'll take Kofax every time
Yes nutting please sell the team
Keep it the same.
I'm replaying the St Louis Browns' 1922 season using an old tabletop sim called Extra Innings Baseball, and so far, George Sisler and the Browns have been tearing up the AL. Hus batting average and his stolen base rating have been phenomenal. With great pitching from Urban Shocker and Elam Vanglider, I fully expect them to take the pennant and face the NY Giants in the World Series
Cy looks like a beer league softball player.
There are stories that as his tummy got bigger, his control got even better.
I think that it would have been better for him to stay at first.
Maybe create a Most Outstanding Player to go along with Most Valuable Player. Not necessarily the same thing. For instance, Andre Dawson won MVP for a last place team in 1987. Do the Cardinals win that year without Ozzie Smith?
Please stop posting every single word spoken across the screen. We have ears and hearing it is enough.
Missed four. Are you sure about Robinson's number?
Number 30 is wrong Gehrig's single season best in HR is 49 and we all know Jackie Robinson wore 42.
omg I had the answer to most of these before the possible answers came up.
Great video.
My Grandmother always told me about a time she rode a streetcar with Honus she was born in1891 and passed in 1994 she watched baseball her entire life.
Great story! Thanks for sharing.
Lou Gehrig is my favourite of all the baseball players, but Walter Johnson is my favourite pitcher.❤️💪✌️
And both are among the greatest baseball players of all time.
Biggest asshole and not liked player on his team ever.
Trivia (question 3) - Johnny Podres played for the Padres.
You had to pick from the choices
Stats don’t always matter to the voters. Ted Williams lost 2 MVP’s he probably should have won (especially 1941) partly due to his personality. Fast forward 44 years and Albert Belle beat Mo Vaughn it hits, runs scored, extra base hits, home runs, on base %, WAR and they tied in rbi’s. Indians had better record than Red Sox and Belle played a tougher position defensively than Vaughn. But Vaughn was charismatic and charming. Belle was irascible and mean. MVP went to Vaughn. What a joke!
Yes, Belle was definitely the better player that year. But he was aloof and the voters didn't like him so they awarded the MVP to another guy.
The picture with Radbourn and some other players he’s giving the finger
Yes, I was actually wondering if someone would catch Radbourn's naughty finger. Well done!
What a great man as well as ball player. Loyal to our country with lengthy military service.
Yes, he was a great man -- loyal to his country and his faith. Incredible human being.
Bill, Jr. titled one of his books "Veeck As In Wreck." The bigger issue is that there is nothing unusual about moving Hornsby from shortstop to second base. With the exception of catcher, it is safe to assume that every MLB player who throws righthanded played shortstop at some point in their career.
Cy Young won over 200 games in the National League and over 200 games in the American League.Same with before 1900 and after.
I think that if you’re going to ask the question, Who was known as Mr. Cub The least you should do is to have three Chicago Cubs as a choice
Incredible story
Story of a man who overcame a great challenge. Also both are incredibly challenging, but I think one-handed hitting is more difficult than one-handed pitching.
To think that Bill James called Sisler the most overrated player in baseball history. Go figure.
I think Sisler's stats would even be better if he had more protection in the lineup. And even so, he did pretty well. And he also batted .309 in his last year in the pros.
@@soyouthinkyouknowbaseball Sisler also had eye problems that affected the second half of his career.
I thought pudge Rodriguez was better than Bench and Ernie Banks was better than Ripken. I suspect Joe Jackson would have been in the running in the OF had he not been banned.
Yes. He could hit, he could field, and he could run. He also had power if needed.
Please get a Human narrator.
Sisler, with Ken Williams and Urban Shocker, led the greatest Browns team of 'em all in 1922.
Thomas Clark Nicholson's(1863-1917) nickname in baseball was???? "Parson" Because he refused to baseball on Sunday. T C Nicholson is my great grandfather.
A degree in ME? Cool. Not fair to compare stats between Irchiro and SIsler. Two totally different eras. Dimaggio won the MVP in '41. Ironically, not only did Ted Williams outhit Dimaggio, his BA for the whole season (.408) was higher than Dimaggio's during the streak. This was a result of media bias against Williams.
Yes. I think one reason the media hated Williams was he wouldn't tip his hat. He also didn't fraternize often with the reporters.
He also helped Branch Rickey decide on signing Jackie Robinson.
Most likely. Branch Rickey was one of Sisler's closest friends for life.
Nice video. Thanks for the research and thanks for posting this!!
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it!
Hate the AI, but love the info. Thanks!
It couldn't even decide how to pronounce "Sisler,:" not to mention ongoing issues with baseball slang.
No. The award is for the Most Valuable Player, not Offensive Player of the Year. When Cabrera won it, the analytics said that another player (Trout?) was the more valuable all-around player.
Yes, in 2013 Cabrera won the MVP over Trout. Trout led the majors with an 8.9 WAR while Cabrera was 5th with 7.5.
MLB did not conduct the election for the Hall of Fame. It is conducted by the Hall itself, and the voters are members of the Baseball Writers Association of America. Even the "Rose Rule" banning those ineligible for employment by a MLB team from selection to the Hall was imposed by the Hall, not MLB.
