What a BEAST! I totally respect him and his faith, his career, his War duties, and anything else related to Greenberg! Man, he could hit! His numbers were amazing with all of that time missed to his War. He seems like he was a great person as well! Thanks for the info on Big Hank!
My father saw many games with the Tigers vs the White Sox growing up in Chicago he remembered going to a game early and watching batting practice and Greenberg hit one right in front of my father the ball landed in the seat in front he dove for it missed and another kid grabbed it. He loved watching Greenberg play thought he was a stand up player
Nice tribute to a great man, one of my grandfather's favorite players. It's a shame he came up short in his chase of Ruth's HR record in 1938. Nobody said it but most everyone suspected pitchers refused to pitch to him down the stretch because he was a Jew. Hammering Hank, a true American patriot and one helluva ballplayer.
Yes. And thanks for remembering. Nowadays people always think of another great player as Hammerin' Hank. I say both of them were legends and deserve the nickname.
I remember one story about Hank it was back in Chicago a Sox player made some nasty comment and after the game he went into the Sox locker room and said which one of you made that ugly comment about me nobody said a word and he walked out I think he wanted to cave in someone's head

My mom and dad always talked about Hank Greenberg and what a great player he was and a great man !
What a great man as well as ball player. Loyal to our country with lengthy military service.
Yes, he was a great man -- loyal to his country and his faith. Incredible human being.

I remember reading about that years ago, when some players allegedly said they wouldn't let a Jew break Ruth's record. It's sad really.
"The Original Hammerin' Hank!"

Wish we had him in Chicago. Seems all the power hitters go to N.Y. or Boston
