Thats not to say that effects will make a bad player sound good by any means....but combined with skills and technique they can have a dramatic effect on tone

Blues is the heart and soul of Rock-Music. The greatest rock-players e.g. Yngwie or Paul Gilbert are great blues-players. Everything else is built around the blues-idiom. Maybe you should add voice-leading to your chart which is important in all genres to sound good over the changes. I know many players playing for decades with bad note-choices because they never learned to connect from one chord to another - even in blues people often rely too much on the pentatonic scale without listening to the changes. Good luck with your course.

Pat Martino is famous for learning the fret board with his parental forms but it is hard to decipher until you get very familiar with the symmetric diminished and augmented chord forms. Memorizing a chord forms and all its inversions helped me. Connect the same chord throughout the neck. Then identify the associated voice leading forms in the vicinity of the major form. I think of three note chord voicing mostly on D, G, and B strings and then extend them from there if I want. Major, minor, dominant, diminished and sometimes augmented three note form forms. I am getting more familiar how these basic shapes leads to the other as well as substitutions and secondary dominants.

Such great information Ulrich Ellison! This has been my focus to semi-naturally flow over progression/changes, maintaining my clock inside so I don't stray too far out on current time and let my heart play musically. You have helped me on the inspiration/heart side, playing with freedom (you obviously believe in this too). The technical knowledge side has been hard to incorporate, and maybe part of me is a little resistant, because I have some inner harmonic time and I'm wanting to play from the heart even more than my head (trying to study the right theory parts and not get lost). I love this about you, that you understand. I've been very sick for about a month and exhausted for lack of sleep, but I'm fighting my way back. This lesson was inspirational!!! Thank you friend!

What you’re saying and playing is nice, but where’s the TAB? This would make for complete and interactive video, otherwise I’m watching you play guitar only and as nice as it is this doesn’t help unless I can slowly watch every movement and write it down. The information and methods are good info, but the TAB from what you play will 100% improve this lesson. Thanks.
