    You could identify most forests as commons. If all trees within a forest were to be simultaneously cut down then the forest would become bare and there would be no trees left to reproduce causing desertification. If the trees were to be cut down within a specific amount and location then it is possible to sustain the forest whilst also benefitting from the resources from the ecosystem.

    You're a lifesaver man! FRQ Answer: Net Primary Productivity is the amount of solar energy that is utilised by plants during photosynthesis and converted to biomass. It is the solar energy left after respiration loss. Primary Productivity cam hint towards the amount of biodiversity in an ecosystem. The higher the biodiversity, the more resources there are for plants to utilise in photosynthesis e.g nutrients. The lower the biodiversity in the ecosystem, the lower the primary productivity due to the scarcity of those vital resources.

    One factor that causes a difference in carbon footprint between the United States and Uganda is affluence, AKA the wealth of individuals and organizations living there. We can see that the United States has a carbon footprint of 16.5 tonnes/year per capita while Uganda has one as 0.1. This is primarily because people in the United States are richer than Uganda, a third world country. Because of this, United States residents have larger housing with more heating, electricity usage, and water consumption -- which produces carbon dioxide because of fossil fuels usage. Additionally, more affluence in the United States means that residents drive larger, nicer cars that cost more to produce. Larger houses require more fossil fuels to be utilized. The mining of this results in negative externalities. For example, when mining for coal and at power plants, sulfur dioxide can be emitted into the air, which can cause asthma and bronchitis to humans, but also damages plant foliage and decreases growth. Negatively impacts the stomata of trees that limits its ability to filter air pollutants.

    What about at 60 degrees south with the westernlies that the rain shadow effect now has the leeward side in Patagonia

    • @Mr.Smedes
      @Mr.Smedes 21 день тому

      Such an astute question! The map that I'm working with in this video is a simplified one that just shows a general depiction of the Atacama desert being located on the western (leeward) side of the Andes. In my drawing on the screen, though, I shouldn't have extended my orange, arid condition line down the entirety of the west side of the Andes. If you look at a satellite view of the Andes, you'll notice that the rain shadow effect actually does flip its orientation south of 30 degrees. South of 30 degrees, the western side of the Andes has much more lush vegetation (since it's now the windward side), while the eastern side of the Andes is drier (since it's now the leeward side.) Thanks for pointing this out! You can really notice the difference if you zoom in on this map. muir-way.com/products/south-america-1922-relief-map

    Very nice thanks, just one question if you can: I didn’t get this map so well, change in first leaf date is when the leaf changes color in the fall or when the first leaf grows in the spring. And if it is in the fall the leaves further north are mostly changing earlier, if it stays warmer longer in the year why are they changing earlier. The south makes sense because if it stays warmer longer they start to change later when it is colder. And is the comparing the change in first leaf date from 1950 - 1960 seeing what changed in 2006 - 2015 compared to how it was back in 1960? Thanks
