RIP a brilliant artist 😢
Your figures are fantastic Jon
Great advice !
Very nicely done mate!!
Hastings is on fire as the saxons await at the top of a incline!
Superb painting on every one of the late Roman Legionnaires and they look as if they belonged in a book about Arthur's legendary character's fighting the Scottish Picts och ya soft southern sassanacks ! Arthur replies at least i know who painted my weapons now get back across the border ye monkey's uncle! A round table perhaps as your next project because you're wood effect looks proper grand to be sure!
You always did such excellent work Jon, and you will be missed. It was my pleasure to watch a Master at work, and I've grabbed quite a few tips and tricks from your videos over the years.
I really admire yours technique and how it achieves such vibrant, deep colors with great shadows. That lorica segmentata looks great, like wearer spends hour or two everyday taking good care after it to get awesomely polished pauldrons :D Great job on those metallics, they must distract opponents when put to play on tabletop, I know I couldn't stop staring at them whole game ^^ I am proud that I trained my algorithm so well it finds treasures like this channel :)
Beautiful work dude. Just started mine today
You gave him a bycocket but didn’t give him a bow?! You be slippin my son!
RIP Jon 😟
How did you paint the white shades on this model Jon? What colours did you use? Thanks!
Do the moorish! Do The Moorish!! DO THE MOORISH!!!
Impresionante como siempre! Un abrazo enorme y sigo aprendiendo de ti maestro. 😊 🔝🔝🔝
Thank you very much 😊 👍
Impresionante Jon! 👏👏👏👏
Thanks you very much mate 😊
What's the ideal round base sizes for the romans Jon? I've just started and have just bought the early imperial romans advancing. I already had some mdf 25mm one's, but thought 20mm may be better and not so oversized looking.
I'm just using victrix normal ones mate 🙂
Looking good, Jon!
Thanks mate 👍
How did you do her red hair? It’s amazing.
Thank you. It's a base of yellow that gets highlighted up. I then used a combination of orange and yellow inks🙂👍
..hi Jon , I'm just having a break from 1066 and I've put together a few of my Ancient Germanic spares so this presentation of yours is great inspiration , ..no limit to your talent mate !!
Cheers Steve. Very Very much appreciated. 😊👍
Great job as always Jon 👏 . Is there a reason why you use both Vallejo flesh wash and Reikland Fleshshade?
Thanks mate 👍
Hope you're keeping well Jon, looking forward to seeing more of your masterful paint work.
Thanks John. To be honest I've been pretty unwell this year. I'm recovering from a major operation for bladder cancer. It's been a tough one, but I'm still here. Painting and videos have had to be scaled back while I am recovering. Basically I'm sleeping in what was my painting room as there was no way I could have made it up and down my stairs. I'm getting there slowly, but still not anywhere near 100 percent. I have been meaning to do some videos of stuff recently Soon mate 👍
@@jonbarrett8452 l noticed a while back in one of your comments that you had been suffering from cancer, hope the worst is over Jon and that you are soon back to your brilliant old self .
@johncarroll772 Thanks mate. Getting better slowly, still got some stuck to my pelvis that they can't remove. Just waiting for some radiotherapy. Hopefully soon. 😊👍
That almost looks like as if you are the guy, Victrix hired to paint them for advertisement! ... or ARE you the guy?
Yes mate. If you look on the Victrix website you'll see loads of my stuff. Norman's, Saxons, Romans ect. 🙂👍
Incredible! Very astonishing work. @@jonbarrett8452
That standard bearer is just astonishing.
Thanks Lee. 😊
Very cool work!!! My congratulations 😉👍
Thanks very much 😊 👍
I like that you seek a realistic look. And you definitely have the skill to. Right now I'm thinking about getting into miniatures. And channels like your's are motivating me. I can imagine that in the beginning I will be happy if I achieve a sketchy look. But if, through training, I come out to be more advanced and achieve something which is slightly comparable to your work, I will be absolutely happy. You way to paint leather and wood alone is eyeopening. I hope you do more tutorials about how you carefully apply wash, for example to achieve this threedimensional effect of the cloth on the lower legs. You can teach beginners and even advanced people much, I think. God bless you!
Thank you very much. Been meaning to do some tutorials, but to be honest I've been unwell with cancer and had to recover a bit from that before I was able to paint again. I've only recently started doing some again. Hopefully I'll get some tutorials done in the future 🙏 😊👍
@@jonbarrett8452 Oh, I hope you get well as soon as possible!
Very nice. How can you make this bluish effect on the chainmail ?
Have you seen my chainmail tutorial yet?😊👍
@@jonbarrett8452 Not yet. Thanks :)
Another fantastic painting on a cool model! What kit is he from?
Thanks mate. He from the Victrix Saxons kit. Glad you like it. 😊👍
Fantastic!
Cheers Wayne 🙂👍
What sort of brush are you using?
Hi mate. At the moment I use A.S Handover restorer brushes. They do the job nicely without a hefty pricetag :)
@jonbarrett8452 thank you. I'll be looking into getting one.
Fantastic as always!!!
Cheers Wayne. Hope you're all well and good.👍
@Jon Barrett been studying your art and really inspired by it! I might never be as good but I sure enjoy it. Thanks.
Probably one of the best reviews ever, crisp up close Camara work, not rushed, and all the right terminology, nicely done, cheers Jon, will definitely be adding these one I've finished the Vikings..
Once I've finished, sorry fat fingers lol...
Thanks mate. 😊 👍
Fantastic!!!
Cheers mate 👍
Are you kidding, that horse looks great!!!
Thanks very much 🙂 👍
Awesome
Cheers Wayne. Very much appreciated mate. 😊👍
Incredible!
Thank you very much Wayne 😊 👍
@Jon Barrett always love your work. You are really an inspiration.
"quite nice," give us a break lol, there spot on as always, first rate as always...
Cheers Lee. Much appreciated 😊👍
Awesome paint job as always, really do hate you, bloody show off lol, but fair play mate..
Lol thanks mate 😊👍
Such nice work. Would love to see a video tutorial on how you paint whites and creams to this standard. Top notch.
Thanks Daniel. Hopefully I'll be able to do some tutorials in the future. 😊👍
Beautifully done.
Thank you 😊
Brilliant paintjob! Well done Sir! Can you tell me how you make your Crusader desert bases? Did you use vallejo pale sand? Looks so realistic. Thumbs up!
Hi mate. Thanks for that. Yes it is pale sand. Then washed with a mix of sepia and umber wash I think. I painted them a while ago and I kinda made it up as I went tbh. 😊👍
@@jonbarrett8452 Thank you for quick response! I will try it directly. Thank you also for your tutorials. I hope to see more of them in the future. 😃👍
@Marius L. Wego thank you mate. You're very welcome 😊👍
Would these work as early saxons
I should imagine that they would. The armoured one's would work too. 😊👍
Me too ive ordered my 2 sets ,cheers the video
@Keith Crispin awesome mate. They're really nice figures tbh. Enjoy and thanks again 😊👍
What sice of base would you recomend for cavalleri in saga ?
Hi mate. I don't really have much chance to play to be honest. I prefer painting. Have you tried joining a saga fb page? Also I use Victrix cavalry bases for my cavalry. 😊👍
Beautiful work Mate.
Cheers mate 👍
Subscribed! Have been painting for a while - never thought to add blue wash to dark wash! Will get black wash definitely ! I found your video sir cause I was searching how to paint black plated armor , I am going to paint Perry mounted 1450-1500 knights turning them into Italian knights with Giovanni de Medici as head knight. They had black plated armor. Any tips for black plated armor sir? I thought of plain gunmetal with black wash or mixing black paint with gunmetal or oily steel, but I am not very sure. Thank you !!!
You could try GW grave lord grey. Paint all the armour silver and then go over it with successive washes until it's dark enough. Yeah I've been painting miniatures for around the 40+ years mark now. Let me know how you get on with it please 🙏 🙂👍
@@jonbarrett8452 Thank you for your reply sir! I beg my pardon - GW grave lord grey is a speed paint , right ? Do you mean as a base color and then silver and washes ? I am in the stage of assembling the knights at the moment 🙂
@Horror kiddo no I mean use grave lord grey as a wash after you base coat the armour with silver😉👍
@@SoaringHighRU try it on one and see how it looks. 🙂
@@jonbarrett8452 I will !!! Thank you very much sir 🙏🙂
..hi Jon , great video as usual , more than likely watched it before but always find something of interest each time , ..however did notice the cross strap and boss insert on the back of the shield , no metallic paintwork there , I always assumed these bits were iron , or am I mistaken ?
Probably right mate. Sometimes it all depends on my laziness level.😱😱😱🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😉👍
are your models unprimed?
Yes mate 😊👍
i bow down to a true painting master. wow. how?
Just time and patience mate.😊👍
.. .hi Jon , ..always good to have another look at your tutorials , ..my leather since discovering Citadel agrax earth and sepia washes has usually been Vallejo Desert Yellow then a wash of the two Citadel shades mixed , ( ratio mix differing between batch of figures ) ..however noticed you seem to have got a nice Matt finish on your Vallejo ink /wash , ..I may have to give that product a try , ..not lined miniatures for a long while now , just used a darker base to the edge , may have to consider lining again , ..I'll let you know how I get on. ....
Hi mate. Vallejo sepia is definitely the way to go. Trust me 😊👍
Magnificent paintwork
Thanks very much 🙂👍
These are great Jon! I'm a newbie when it comes to minis and I've got some Victrix Normans on the way. What exact paint and method do you use for faces? I've watched a lot of videos out there and your detailing is amazing.
Hi mate. Have you seen my face tutorial on my channel?😉🙂👍
