Games About Death

Enjoy this gift while you have it. You've got all the time in the world. In this video I talk a lot about death and the games that I feel do a great job exploring its greater meanings. So many of the games we play have us play the role of executioner without ever thinking twice about it. I just find it really fascinating when games can be more analytical of the emotional impact of death. If you...
The Goblin Panel

I hosted a panel at Megacon Orlando 2024 where I proved that goblins are real. Six months ago I jokingly submitted an application to Megacon Orlando to host a panel where I would prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that goblins are real. I did not expect the submission to be approved. I just thought it would be funny that someone on in the convention's team was going to have to read it. To my surp...

    Random bit of trivia: According to Miyamoto, Link was always meant to represent the player's avatar in Hyrule. He is the link between the player and game. Thus, there's a bit of Link (and his sociopathic tendencies) in all of us! I loved every minute of this video. Thanks for the opportunity to voice Ganondorf!

    I'm so fucking happy someone else feels this way I don't mash my face into walls until I'm out of bounds, but I walk by apartments and houses. Abandoned or lived in and just wonder what life is like in there.

    I believe videogames are LITERALLY real within their own context. Once you accept that it's a virtual simulation, you can start seeing the real within it. Like when that warthog in halo did a backflip over a tank and ran someone over that was literally real. That actually happened. It wasn't scripted by an author or developer. That just came about naturally in the context of this universe due to emergent mechanics. This extends to every experience you have since none of it was placed there by a human. It emerged naturally. Naturally, but in an artificial place.

    I used to be obsessed with Donkey Kong 64 when I was little, and it was because of all the unique worlds you could explore. Every time I defeated a boss in the first world, I would eagerly await to see what the next world would look like. What really cemented my love for this game was when I saw the lighthouse of Gloomy Galleon for the first time, and was flooded with a vibe from it that was so cool, I can't really describe how it felt. I remember my exact words were, "Woah, that's so cool! I want in!" Nowadays I can't really get that vibe from that place anymore, but I can remember what it was like if I try hard enough. It was an experience I've never really had with a video game before. After that point, I was so excited to see what the fifth world would be that I dreamed about what it would be, I had a dream about a room made entirely of steel and there was a small hallway with fancy oval shaped mirrors across the walls that led you to different sections of the world.

      That's so crazy because the same thing happened to me! I can remember having a dream about a new world in DK64 that I had never been to. It involves a sunken ship and this bright pink room with floating boulders that moved and a weird vending machine. It's a really fuzzy memory now but I still remember how it made me feel. It's really special, the effect this game has on people. I always wished I could recapture that.

    • @Tickbeat
      @Tickbeat 19 днів тому

      @@Brian.Henken I actually had 2 dreams about worlds, but only the fancy mirror steel world was what I in the dream believed to be world 5. The second one was a giant factory primarily made of silver, with walls that had vertical line indents that reminded my of the walls at Woodman's. I even invented my own game and game character called Yellow Man where I proceeded to write down about 20 different worlds that I never ended up making. I realized recently that the level editor in Geometry Dash actually would allow for one to create the themes in their head, so if I ever wanted to make the themes I had invisioned, I could.
