OK but is A.I. Art?
Переглядів 403Рік тому
We've all seen the AI wars raging over on ArtStation and Twitter these past few weeks. The debate is centered on whether AI is a viable tool, or whether the way it runs is ethical. I want to talk about whether it counts as art. 10 Minute Chainmail in Maya!
Переглядів 6 тис.Рік тому
This is my method of modeling chainmail armor or anything else that's complex yet form-fitting. If you have a better way of doing it, leave a comment! I'm always trying to get faster! I got the music from: soundscrate.com/ 00:00: Intro/ZBrush Method 01:32: Preparing the Model in Maya 03:45: Creating the Chainmail Pattern 07:13: Wrap Deformer 08:41: Finishing Touches 09:21: BONUS: Other Examples
Creating Face Rigs FROM SCRATCH!
Переглядів 1,3 тис.2 роки тому
I'm a modeler, not a rigger. But I found a way to make great face rigs for my characters from scratch super easily! In this video I use Maya and Wrap 3, but you could do this in any 3D program. The free blend shape data I used can be found here:github.com/ICT-VGL/ICT-FaceKit I got the music and motion graphic stuff from ProductionCrate where I also work!: soundscrate.com/royalty-free-music/soun...
Holy hell! This video was very insightful! Thank you so much!!
Ah thanks! I appreciate that
Great tutorial quick question, did you remove the eyelashes and water lines on all the blend shapes and if so is there a quick way to do so?
I did remove that stuff, yeah. I think I just did it manually one by one, which took a while. But your question makes me think there must be a way to do it all at once. What I did though was select the head with a quick double-click in face mode, and then shift-drag to invert the selection. So it didnt take as long as you think.
the dude pulled a big brain move
Needed this, thank you so muchh
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you so much for sharing, I needed this! <3
Thanks for watching!
Do you know how can I use this in my TikTok live ( like he’s gonna be my appearance and copy my actions whatever I’m doing and saying )
Ah like a VTuber. There are programs for that but I don’t know how to do it in maya. Sorry!
Great video!! How would you go around texturing the chainmail?
Thanks! I realized I didn’t say this in the video, but it’s probably best to UV map the first ring so that all the duplicates are mapped. Then after you create the chainmail, you can automatically pack all the UVs. In my own project however, I didn’t end up texturing the chainmail at all. I used it to bake the details of the chainmail onto a flat, low poly surface. And then I textures that. Hope that made sense! If not, maybe I’ll make a tutorial about it.
@@MikeSmith3D Oooh I see, I would not be opposed to a tutorial - your stuff is a goldmine haha!!! Thanks for taking the time to reply :)
Can you model chinmail. It’s basically chainmail for a fat person’s chin.
This is the type of tutorial that I like! The knowledge is more universal
Thanks for the feedback!
Great job!
Thanks!
this is a much better approach to a tutorial where you explain the technique and the logic rather than a "monkey see monkey do" kind of thing where you can only follow along if using the same software while copying the keystrokes without understanding why 👍
Nice, thanks for the feedback!
Honestly ur first step of just making it simply move up and down with the jaw is VERY reminiscent of the blocking stage in animation So it's pretty fundamentally sound, if u ask me. A great tip.
Ah nice that’s good to hear XD I’m self taught but barely even that
does it work for blender 4.0 too? It doesn't appear in the tool settings even after I installed it.
This is a tutorial about my process for animating faces which could work in any 3D program. I’m using maya in the video but there’s nothing maya or blender specific. Which tool are you trying to load?
@@MikeSmith3D hey thank you for taking the time answering me, I am trying to add facekit as an addon to Blender but, even if the program says "installed correctly in the folder bla bla" it doesn't appear at all as a tool in the side window.
Ah sorry I’ve never tried facekit myself, so I can’t help 😕
@@MikeSmith3D oh no! But I mean in the previous video you used the github FaceKit tool, so that was my quesiton
@@PecoraSpecoh I see! No I just downloaded the raw OBJ files from GitHub and set it up manually in Maya. I didn’t use blender for that. Sorry for the confusion! I’m currently learning the process in blender so I might be able to make a video in the future for that.
Thanks for this, Mike. i really appreciated this whole walkthrouhg
Thanks! I’m glad it was useful for you!
This is the best lip sync video on youtube i have watched many tuts
Thank you! That’s high praise
Thank you very much for this ❤
Sure thing! thanks for watching
this is awesome! Super useful! Animating faces is not my expertise but all of his bigger movements like the head and eyebrows were slightly too perfect. If you can add some follow through and subtle noise to everything it really goes a long way. His head turn is especially robotic when he says "we will return" some follow through there would be perfect with just a bit of noise. But this is a great workflow and I love the rig. Animating every M sound a F sound is super smart and I'll definitely do that in future!!
I agree 100%! I'm a modeler trying to get better at animation myself. So this is great advice
@@MikeSmith3D i also recommend trying motion capture for the face. None of my characters really have expressive faces (darth vader, spiderman, the lizard) faces so i don't have much experience but I did a test of it a couple years ago and i was amazed at how quickly i got really good results. ua-cam.com/video/uNK8S19OSmA/v-deo.htmlsi=rajULl2HqyxDdjhA this was the tutorial i followed but you can probably do something similar in whatever software you use. Or learn it in Blender either
@@conorsvfx I dont know why youtube blocked your comment, but I just saw it now. I'm switching over the reallusion suite for my next character to see how that workflow works for me. Because I'd really like to use mocap for faces if the results are good enough. Unfortunately this guy was too far along the pipeline to be switched over to reallusion. But my next character definitely will have mocap. Thanks again for the comment!
That's incredible, thank you for sharing your knowledge!
Thanks! that means a lot
Great tutorial! Thanks a lot! Subbed! And thank you YT algorithm.
Ah nice, thank you!
I love it! I recently tried making Lip sync for my latest animation and i wish i knew all that >.<. Subbed!
Thanks! Your anime video is really cool
@@MikeSmith3D Thank you!
Awesome job mate!
Hey thanks!
Brilliantly!!! The result is much cooler than that of a nanomesh!
deve ser tao legal a gente fazer um personagem e ve ele ganhar vida
It's very satisfying!
Would be amazing If I could use this only in Zbrush :p
If you find a way let me know!
@@MikeSmith3D currently I'm doing chainmail in the most basic way - link after link. Unfortunately all other methods suck for 3d printing :(
how about shrink wrap?
How do you mean? Do you know a quicker way to do this? I'd very excited to learn it!
@@MikeSmith3D i mean, have you used it other than just the wrap deformer? i just want to know if you've compared the tools before
@@gentamustaine Ah no I've only tried the wrap deformer for this. I'll have to try out shrink wrap
Amazing workflow! Was just wondering about doing this with ropes before you mentioned the cables 😅
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it
What easy way to do morph ( shape keys ) for face
An easy way to create your own? Before I found these shapekeys, I would just sculpt them by hand in ZBrush
How do we get whatever plug in that gives you the Bonus Tools tab?
It's an official plugin from autodesk. So if you google "maya bonus tools" it should be the first result.
Thank you I was able to successfully install the plug in. I had one other question. I completed this work flow once successfully before I realized I had an error with my UV she’ll size for some reason which made the links the wrong size. I fixed the issue but now every time I get to the final steps my wrap does not seem to work. The flat mesh will conform to the 3D Meshes shape but the links do not follow. This seems to happen regardless of which I select first or second when doing the wrap. Any tips?
I have figured it out. For any future viewers in the deform>wrap settings if you do not have Exclusive Bind checked the links do not seem to follow. Great video I plan on using this work flow on my demo reel project for my class. Thanks!
@@EthanRipp02 Oh excellent tip! another commenter had the same issue so now I'll be able to answer them. Thanks
Thank you very much for this tutorial ! But I have a problem. While I thansfer attributes - it applies it to the surface, but also flatterns the chainmail ((( Can you advise, why it happens?
Very weird. I've never seen that happen. I'll have to do some research.
hey, the above comment by @ethanripp8917 answered this question. In the wrap settings you need to make sure that Exclusive Bind is checked.
@@MikeSmith3D It works!! Thank you a lot for such a greate tutorial !
Good to hear!
Would it work on something rigged / animated ? By that I mean, if the "bottom" mesh is animated and deformed with cloth simulation or something like that, will the chainmail still tag along for the ride, without its "circles" getting deformed ?
It will probably evaluate slowly, but yes! If you don't delete history after performing the Wrap deformer, it will continue to follow the original mesh even if it's animated or simulated. To keep things from getting to slow, I'd probably bake the cloth simulation down to a geometry cache or an alembic cache. That way it's not a live simulation.
@@MikeSmith3D Thank you so much for your answer !
nice!
My eyes: magic wand My brain:
this is an amazing trick, so helpful
What is a defitnion for "art", effort? labor? I mean did you see that picture that sold for millions with a white line on a blue background. Art can be anything and everything , it's subjective.
Yep that's what I said in the video if you watch to the end. Art doesn't require a lot of effort. It requires a point of view and intention. Something stable diffusion doesn't provide.
Yes AI artist are artists too. Now go and do your amazing art, you are special xD
You nailed it my friend.
I'm using Ai art to help me come up with ideas for my concept art portfolio. It is lackluster with full-body anatomy. What are your thoughts using ai for environment design?
I have a folder full of AI inspiration too. Personally I’m not going to use it to photobash any environment concepts like I normally would because of the ethical issues. It’s just for inspiration. But if they could fix the ethics issues I could see myself cutting up elements and using them like I would any other photo. It’s a great tool for that.
@@MikeSmith3D But even so, if we are talking purely on ethical usage, why not photosbash the ai image and alter it in photoshop. We artists take inspiration from things all the time. We steal and alter it just like ai. No artwork is original. Ai art is alarming at first glance, but if we overlook its ethical usage, we can alter the image and have a limitless library of resources.
@@stockpile2137 I'm not willing to overlook the ethical issues. If things like midjourney were open source that would be one thing. But midjourney is a private for-profit company making milliions upon millions of dollars by using art without permission. Some of that money belongs to the people who did the work of creating the art. Midjourney would not be able to produce anything without the labor of those artists.
WARP just error to me
Hm did you combine all the links and delete history? And make sure to select in the correct order? What does the error say?
Wow dude. Nice one.. u deserve more subs and views 😉
This is brilliant.
This is really cool workflow! I'll definitely keep that in my toolbelt. Thank you very much :D
Great tutorial dude, as someone who's looking to get into blendshapes soon, this is perfect info and really demystifies the process. Thank you!
Glad to hear it!
