Everyone I know that has tried street skating in roller skates after inlines finds it very hard. It is harder work, of course once you’re at a good level and used to it then it’s fairly easy and very enjoyable. But many struggle because there’s so much less resistance on inlines so you feel more of the ground on roller skates and it’s harder to push. But quads are definitely more comfortable in my opinion.

For street skating, definitely converted ice hockey boots. Lots of people have Bauers but there are other boots. These are Roces, which are very popular. These days I skate in Reebok 5k boots. I love them! CCM is a good brand as well. CCM made the Reebok boots. Thing to know about Bauers is that they are of course not all the same, some models are great and some are horrible. Same with most brands really. They all make entry level boots which tend to be too basic and so quite uncomfortable. And they also make high end boots, some of the top spec boots though are top spec for ice hockey but you wouldn’t want them for roller skating because they’re too stiff. Usually you want a model in between I’d say. That’s why I like my Reebok 5k, they’re a good quality heat mouldable boot but they’re not too stiff. Comfiest street skates I’ve ever owned.

Airwaves all the way! I’ve tried Sims, I don’t like them. They’re smaller. I feel like I can feel more bumps when I use them. Sims were very popular years ago before Airwaves existed. We’ve moved on. Same as Bauer Turbos, they were good skates in the 90s, now they’re clunky plastic lumps compared to what we have on offer.

We calls these quads, or just rollerskates. The difference between rollerkates and inline skates is how you balance. On inline skates you balance from side to side, the front and the back of an inline skate are very stable because the wheel base is longer than the boot. On rollerskates like in this video you are very stable side to side, but more work is needed to balance front to back because the rear axel is directly beneath the heel and the front axel is directly beneath the ball of your foot. So, you can tip forwards and backwards a lot easier on rollerskates than on inlines. This means you can do different things and the feeling of skating is slightly different. Inline skates have less surface area of wheels connecting to the ground, so less friction, this means they will roll faster on roads and also go over rough terrain easier. Rollerskates are very stable when standing still because the flour wheels are like four legs of a table. Lots of skaters have their boots very loose because of this, they don't need to be tight, this allows your ankles to move very freely. This makes getting your skates on and off a quick process. You can just kick them off, or pull them on. It's a different feeling, some prefer one, some prefer the other. For me, I have always preferred rollerskates, but maybe that's just nostalgia because I had rollerkates when I was young. I don't know why but I think they look cooler.

I wish!!! There's a really cool path in South Wales, I thibk it's called the millennium path, or something similar. It connects a few towns along the coasts. It's very twisty and has some small hills. It was very fun to skate when I did it. I didn't go far but the paths is a few miles long. Definitely intend to go back some time.

@JakeLDS cheers mate, will definitely check it out. Coastal routes seem to be the way here (outside of City skating) - closest we can come to the smooth sunny promenades of abroad! Skating heaven haha
