Ken Popple (The Laughing Apple, Biff Bang Pow!, Lord Fayrebank) Interview (1/26/25)
Ken Popple is an English drummer, guitarist and singer/songwriter probably best known as a member of indie pop band Biff Bang Pow! Ken would first play with Creation Records founder Alan McGee in the short-lived band The Laughing Apple. The group would release three singles in the early 80’s. Then in 1983 Alan (guitar and vocals) and Ken on drums would recruit guitarist Dick Green and bassist Joe Foster. This unit would be the original lineup for Biff Bang Pow! From 1983 to 1991 the band issued 6 studio albums, a slew of singles and compilations, most on the Creation label. Ken also played on a couple of tracks by fellow Creation artist Revolving Paint Dream. Afterwards Ken began teaching and also picked up guitar. In 2020 my guest began his folk music project Lord Fayrebank. Today, Lord Fayrebank is still alive as a duo with Kevin Taylor joining Ken.

I love the Cryan Shames; I still have their first album; Love the Photo in the candy store; We Could Be Happy was a great song too; Thanks for the interview Tom; Loved every minute of it !!!!
Nice video!
what a jolly nice fellow Martin is, so down to earth. i'd love to have a pint with him and talk about Beggars Opera. back in 1972 when i was still at school i went into a pub/bar with a friend and this intriguing music was playing. i asked the bar man who it was and of course it was Beggars Opera. the next day i went to the shop and bought Act1 which i still have on the vertigo swirl. i also got Waters of change and Pathfinder on vertigo swirl. their 4th album 'get your dog off me' is nothing like the first 3 but i also got it on the swirl label which was released in Europe (not in UK) fantastic band and one of my top 10 of all time.
Greg Shanks...Are you saying Justin Hayward's last name correctly? Sounds like you are saying Hack -something...with a hard k sound :o
Thanks for the great music Joey and When you mentioned RCA records they are idiots there. They signed a litle known band in Germany called Scorpions in early 70s and this band from 73 on were the best rock band ever but not till they changed labels. After that they have sold over 100 million records
This is great! Love Colins work!
Saturday morning pictures, what a good and underrated album.
Mick is a legend in Dover, awesome player and multi talented across several genres. Would love to spend an afternoon in conversation but this is almost as good.
Thank you very much ,hawkey franzeń,coste Apetra and kenny wonderfuł😊
I didn’t know Mick played all those instruments, in fact I didn’t know the half of it! Just part way through this before clicking the UA-cam. Will come back to it later c👍
thank you for this. Mansfield, Hackshaw, Bennett & the other KPM legends have really inspired me in so many ways. I loved hearing his process on writing & composing.
Great interview, once again. Greg, if you're reading this, it was a pleasure listening to you, especially the part about J.D. Salinger. And you're right : Rick is a good guy and a very talented artist. I hope you'll record new songs together someday.
Such an interesting interview ,have been a fan of this great singer songwriter for most of my life ,attended some of his concerts and enjoyed all of them
♥♥♥
I own Brian's Hawkes and Son Excelsior Sonorous French Bassoon.
Thank you
Thank you🐻R,I,P Hawkeye Franzen
I knew Don in Columbia,Missouri in 1968, he played The Ivanhoe bar/restaurant & all over town. (Don played the Ivanhoe one night & I was sitting at the very front table, just three feet in front of him. I learned how to play “Hoochie Coochie Man” that night just by watching his fingers, that’s how close I was to him.) I partied sometimes with Don at the Eagles Nest where he stayed, we indulged in the chemicals of the day pretty heavy there during our wayward youth. I was in a band called Crystal Clear & we opened for a band called The Sound Farm & Don did three of the Sound Farm songs called “Tell me about her, Tin cans & alleyways & Fat love birds” on his Don Cooper albums. I was real sorry that Don signed with Roulette Records because they were a mob owned company that screwed Don pretty bad out of his royalties & fame. Sonny Smith- Drummer, Crystal Clear Band. 🎶🎵🎸
21/1/25,,he is a wee fanny, ruined a decent band, thinking he was bigger than the band
So sad to learn that Margaret passed away in 2004. I only came to know These Trails this morning but it feels very sad. And after one year, I was born. I feel more sad now.
The first time I saw the video of Sniff'n' The Tears on TV, long time ago. Loz playing the guitar I fell in love with him. What a gorgeous guy he was! And of course a great guitar player! Such a beautiful song. And even now he is still my crush❤❤❤😅. Hugs from Peru.
It's such a pleasure to listen to Rick. I just discovered your channel, and I have to say, you're an amazing interviewer! I took a look at the other musicians you've featured, and it's incredible. It's hard to believe your UA-cam channel isn't more widely known - it definitely deserves more recognition!
We need an interview with the members of Orpheus. They are currently recording in Los Angeles. You may be able to Bernard Purdie as well. Look them up online.
I saw Fiat Lux at UMIST in 1982 - only three in the audience - a professional excellent performance
Beautiful voice
:D

Hoss ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Love this!
As above so below was the soundtrack to my life 2001. Hell of an album. Thank you Barry.
Thanks for this Mike. I was one of the 14 year olds that used to come along and see you and the Betterdays rehearsing on Saturday afternoons at the Quay Club on the Barbican in Plymouth. You introduced me and many close friends to the Blues, which we have never looked back on. Hope you have managed to finish the book.
Louis I so enjoyed this so much , love from your cousin Lynn ❤
Great to find this! Been a fan of The Love Affair for years and years but this is the only item I could find on Maurice. Great interview. Thanks!👏
He’s gorgeous (was)
Not often I watch any YT video for an hour and a half, but I enjoyed every minute of this. But I've been a John Kirkpatrick fan ever since I first heard folk music in the early 1970s. Great stuff!
RIP Ronnie
Saw the Jolt support Generation X in 1978 I think. Great gig. Good memory of it. Their single released at the time was 'I can't wait'.
Greetings from Brazil
Thanks 👍
What a treat of an interview. It’s so nice to see the spirit that’s behind the songs. Hearing him express himself only bolsters my appreciation of the record! Thank you F.J ✌🏻
My favorite band from the early 70’s. Saturday morning pictures is a great album. Del blew me away when I saw them live with his guitar playing the strobes flashing around the set.

Derek Holt: One of the ultimate BEST Singer / Songwriter/ Multi-Instrumentalists to ever walk this earth!
I have a chord zither `The Piano Chord' the same as Andrew's. I have 4 pickups glued under the strings to stretch the full width. It sounds very similar to his, just using a chorus peddle. Goose bumps!!
