I am an angler and ghillie in the Highlands of Scotland. I use my Eos 5DIII, iPhones and GoPro to try to capture the ambience, fun and enjoyment of my fly fishing experiences, within the stunning landscapes in which I am privileged to fish. All the salmon are landed in my McLean weigh net, where they recover before being released. Loki, a Hungarian wire haired Vizsla, was a regular fishing companion on my adventures.
2 salmon caught on the fly | Dochfour | salmon fishing Scotland 2024 🏴
Local angler Iain confirming that all is not lost when there’s a seal hunting through the pool that you are fishing.
The river was standing at minus 5” on our own gauge, which equates to plus 3” on the SEPA gauge at Ness Side. Water temperature was 13 degrees and air temperature was 12 degrees.
Iain’s winning fly was a #8 dressed double, fished off a floating line with a 10’ slow sinking poly tip and a 15lb tippet.
Once again, covering the pool was key to success.
More stunning tide-fresh salmon in the back of the net.
Happy days 😊

First Ness salmon for visiting angler Shannon, who had traveled all the way from his home in the USA 🇺🇸. There was much discussion beforehand about species that Shannon has pursued and caught, all over the world. Suffice to say that his previous 72lb salmon was going to take some beating but nevertheless, he had a very enjoyable day and landing this 7lber, was the perfect opportunity for celebr...

Local angler Michael, adding another pristine springer to his tally for 2024. Michael's decision about which pattern of fly he should choose from his fly box, could not be simpler, as there is only one! The only decision that he does have to make, is what size of fly best suits the prevalent conditions. The fly he chose here, was a number 6. The river height on our gauge stood at 0" which equat...

Great video as always, just love the underwater shots. So, the seal coming that far up is that a sign of maybe more fish running than we think (i’m trying to be optimistic)? Or is it a sign of poor feeding in the firth? That’s some effort it must go to to make it there.
@@highlandfishingdiary8818 Many thanks for your kind words, I’m delighted to read that you enjoy the underwater footage. There are definitely a lot of fish in the system, especially in the big Loch. The seal is a regular visitor that spends April/ May feeding in Loch Ness and its tributaries and the rest of the time pursuing pods of fish up the river, when it gets the opportunity, which is definitely what it was doing when I captured this footage. Only ever see one seal, never a group, so hopefully it’s just an intermittent opportunist.
@@CameronChapman ah right, cheers for the clarification, hope the rest of your season goes well.
Congratulations Iain - 2 fantastic bars of silver. Great footage Cammy. Hope the seal has goes back to sea soon! 🐟🎣
Many thanks Shirley, I think it went up over the weir and into Loch Ness, pretending to be the monster….
Well done Iain and Cameron! Seals...now there is something I don't have to deal with on the Restigouche! Mike
Many thanks Mike, in days gone by, there would have been no issue in dealing with marauding seals. Nowadays, they are untouchable.
Second fish thought it was safer with you , I do hope Sammy got home safe and sound
😂🤣😆
Outstanding well done all things considered with that seal hanging around . Mind he had a pretty huge salmon/ST in his mouth. Well done lads .
Many thanks Pete, 🙏❤️🫡
Two nice fish but I think I would be trying to get rid of the that seal. There is too many of them,
@@clarkson7777 I am told that the fishery board have previously used many different methods to dissuade seals from hunting in the river, all to no avail. if you can outline an effective process that doesn’t break the law, I’d be very interested to hear it.
Well done lovely 😊😊
Many thanks guys 🙏❤️👍🏻
2 Nice fish well done 🎣 👍
Many thanks Gary 👏🏻❤️👍🏻
Great stuff lads well done 👏 was that a seal 🦭 Cameron 😊god bless from limerick ❤😊
Sure was Noel, a common seal. It regularly travels the short length of the river and climbs the weir, then it hunts in and around Loch Ness.

@@normality3848 The Weir is on the Upper Beat, so you should bear that in mind when enquiring about availability on the FishPal system, through which all our availability is sold. I have included a link to the FishPal system here: www.fishpal.com/Scotland/Ness/Dochfour/ I hope that helps you.

Nice wee grilse Cameron and what about that brown trout what a cracker. What sort of run are you having on the Ness Cameron? are there plenty of salmon about, or are they declining like many other rivers?

Well done Guys - thanks for my Sunday morning fix of the river. 🎣🐟🎣

Enquiring from Ireland how much is that weir to fish?
Hey Christian, thank you for your enquiry, if you can get onto the FishPal website then search for Ness, Dochfour, you can enter the date(s) you wish to fish and you’ll see the availability and the price. It varies throughout the season. The Weir is on the Upper Beat, so please bear that in mind when making your enquiry.
