Hi, and welcome to our channel! We're Silas and Andréa and during the lockdown in 2020 we decided to start a UA-cam channel all around the theme of adventure. We were already outdoorsy types and making videos just added to the fun of it! We love backcountry camping and hiking, hot spring hopping and white water rafting and kayaking. Currently based in the beautiful state of Oregon and we love to meet up with other adventurous souls.
Exploring Oregon Cascades
Exploring the Oregon Cascades is a popular adventure destination with its many hiking trails through lush forests, snow capped mountain peaks, and numerous lakes for cooling off in summer. Andréa and Silas travel to the Willamette National Forest to camp out at Big Lake with a magnificent view of Mt. Washington. They did multiple loop trail hikes, plenty of swimming, and enjoyed cooking meals while looking out at the view.

I boated this in 1993. A handful of boats on the entire river. Now the parking lot at the put in overflows with rigs.
It has become very popular over the years with more boaters. Glad you got a chance to experience it. Cheers!
Epic video thx sharing
Thanks so much! We really appreciate you taking the time to watch :)
Usually the gas stove gas tube just needs be cleaned build up of carbon just suggestion
Awsome video hope to see more.
@@greg.jacobs Hey thanks for tuning in. Glad to hear you enjoyed the video. Definitely more to come ....
I've seen small channels with high production values, but your editing is just so tight. Great stuff. I've also got a T1N. Never seen one with a bump out! Jealous of that, and your seemingly total lack of rust. Cheers
Thank you so much for that compliment and thanks for taking the time to watch our video :) Silas installed the bump outs so we could have our bed widthwise so he can sleep comfortably. The van was owned by a Sprinter mechanic before we bought it and he took excellent care of it. There has been some minor rust but nothing a little rustoleum can't gloss over ;)
Mermaids 🧜♀️ and vans always deserve a thumbs up 👍
@@Scrambler85 Thanks for checking us out ✌️
It was so lovely to meet you both as camp neighbors. What a beautiful sunset and moon rise. Thanks for capturing it. ❤ Wishing only the best for you both
@@illianamai7209 It was really nice meeting you and your dad. We were so blessed to witness such a spectacular moon rise. Hope to meet again ✌️
I'm from Oregon 😁 and in case you didn't know Oregon also has amazing natural hot springs
@@leilawitherspoon503 Yes it does! We have several videos on our channel that feature some of Oregon's hot springs.
man oregon is so pretty
It sure is!
Best ever and I watch a lot of videos beautiful country o'wyhees is the tops and you people's presentation are fun and professional
Thanks for watching and the nice words!
Kayaking this section again in June....thanks for the video, it's helping me get through the work day! Can you help me to find the hike in the canyon that you featured in this video?
Glad you enjoyed the video…We did two hikes below Birch Creek as we took at Leslie Gulch. I think you mean the last hike with the crystals that the whole group did…That was on river left pretty close to where the river flow met the slack water of the reservoir. There was a camp there that actually had a dirt road to it. We made it there because we couldn’t find anything else up river and were getting driven by rain, wind and hail and came to that spot. We got a shelter up, a fire going and had dinner then it cleared up a bit and we got to go on that hike which was pretty awesome. Have an awesome trip and Good luck finding it. Cheers!
@@HeartCompassAdventures Thanks! we are taking out at Birch creek, bummer that we will miss it.
@@MichaelRuff-il8se you probably know the road to Birch creek is horrible. There is quite a bit of interesting areas below Birch creek too. The hot springs on the reservoir are worth stoping at.
Fun to watch. You all look like rednecks for sure. Thanks for sharing.
I can see the emotions in your face man after that encounter..
It was an intense scene to witness. Thanks for taking the time to watch.
Loon Creek coming in with the different color water! God isnt it an amazing place? Im lucky enough to have 3 private trips under my belt. Last year we did a fly in late season because a big storm blew out the top end of the run.
Nature is the supreme artist! That's cool you're able to get out and run the rivers :)
You should respect the rules …. Respect …..respect …. Respect
We pinned a comment regarding this... Two locals were swimming in the water shortly after we arrived. We asked about why there were "no swimming" signs and one the men said everyone always use to swim there but then several years ago a tourist jumped for the top and was sadly killed. That's when the "no swimming" signs went up. He said he visits that waterfall regularly and always swims there. In general we do follow rules but given the situation and the history of the place we decided it was absolutely safe for us to swim there.
Oh man I was sad for you to have to leave.
Sooooooo coool, love the video here! I’m hungry now
Hey, thanks so much for watching! Glad you enjoyed it. We can't wait to go back and explore the rest of the country. Try frying up a banana as a quick snack ;)
@@HeartCompassAdventures oh silly silly. I’ve been frying plantains for years. I don’t do them the way you guys were though I do them more like smashed chips. In a deep fryer. We went to Costa Rica in 2016. We pretty much went everywhere you did, but in reverse order. Nicoya peninsula is where I fell in love with Costa Rica though. San Francisco day coyote. Kind of in the middle of nowhere. We were considering moving there though so we were looking for possible real estate. I really loved it.
Pura Vida amigos 😁💜
The Caribbean has the opposite weather to the Pacific in Costa Rica. The months its sunny in the Pacific it rains in the Caribbean and also.opposite
Good to know. Thanks for sharing.
i love this video, felt like I was there, was surprised at how many of the plants you saw were ornamentals here that we get at the plant stores! also I didn’t realize there were so many furry primates around there. thanks so much for sharing!!
Thanks so much for watching and glad you enjoyed it. We actually joked about smuggling some of the plants home to add to our house plant collection ;P and pretty much everywhere we went we saw monkeys. Costa Rica is full of wildlife!
what are the plants at 22.02 - the big blue things?
We passed by a small field of hydrangea and eucalyptus.
One day.......

Thanks so much :)
Mermaids 🧜♀️ and waterfalls always get a thumbs up 👍
🤣🤣🤣✌️
🤣🤣🤣✌️
looks incredible !! stunning nature
Thanks for watching. Glad you enjoyed the nature scenes. It's a beautiful country.
Couple things... First please forgive me for the last thirty seconds of this video. That was an error on my part. Secondly, we chose to swim at the first waterfall after speaking with a local about the situation that happened there several years ago and why the "no swimming" signs were put up. We just followed his lead and got in. Figured if's it okay for the locals... PS: If you look to the left of the waterfall, we hung out for a bit in thermal hot water that was coming down in a stream it was a magical setting.
More safety advice: o always wear safety helmets when on a whitewater river o always keep your PFD zipped/buckled up
Great attitudes ❤ fun trip😊
Thank you so much :) It was absolutely a fun trip!
Thats such a great float. We did it last year and have been talking about floating again this year all winter. Fingers crossed for good water levels.
Awesome. Last year was a nice extended season for it with the water levels. Hope you can make it back there. Cheers!
That is steamboat rock not tiger wall. Tiger wall is a couple miles before warm springs on the yampa river
I've always started at Service Creek. There's a great camp with a rock wall across the river. It has a huge swallow cave and a rock that looks like Homer Simpson's head. A few miles above Clarno has a hill shaped like Jabba the Hutt. The rocks on the John Day have so many interesting shapes. I love the elephants, dogs, and gorillas, and Abe Lincoln near the fossil beds. At one of the lower camps, you can see a house high up on a cliff. It's in the middle of nowhere, but I once found it on Google Maps once.
Very beautiful! It looks like our Altai mountains!
Thanks for watching! Maybe someday we will be so blessed to visit the Altai mountains. Cheers!
Oh man I can’t wait to go foraging right now they are going crazy and I hope I find some I’m also a Oregon native and thank you so much for sharing this 😊 🤤 I can’t wait
It's a good year for them. Happy hunting!
wow quite the storm!
It was invigorating!
Silas and Andreas weird. Cringey content not the nature but the the couples exploring it, filming you put deodorant on and smelling it? Really?
Why would you say this?? Your tiny
I've hiked that same trail a couple of times when I lived in the Rogue Valley. Trailhead is right at the Grave Creek Bridge near the boat launch.
What was the average depth of the water? We're looking to go down the summer and Looking to see how much draft we need on the boats. Thank you!
Thats a hard one to answer. The depth is always changing. Its deeper in the pools and gets shallow before the riffles. We dont know the John Day well enough to know what the lowest level a raft can get through on.
Do you know of a Hepa filter like the one you used that might work with a 6 inch fan ? looks like it was purely a happy coincidence that it seems to fit onto the fan you have.
I love your adventures!
Thanks Ronda! Hope to make many more in the future.
Gorgeous
Oregon as so many amazing gems. Still so much of the state to explore.
I am living vicariously through your adventures, green with envy. I still miss your face at Saturday Market. What is the elevation at the peak you climbed?
Hi there! I haven't seen you at market in awhile. Hope you're doing alright. Elevation at top of South Sister is 10,358. This was my second time climbing it and definitely prefer the Green Lakes Route because there are fewer hikers going up that way although there is also less of a trail and more just a general direction of navigating.
Wow, that’s awesome canyon
Is that my cousin Caleb?
Can people pay you to take them on these trips?
No. We would have to have an outfitters license and insurance the minute we are paid for a trip though someone can buy all the food, vehicle shuttle, gas or any equipment but you cant call it a payment and there is no insurance. If your feeling adventurous sometime and promise no complaining about anything. You can jump on a trip. Right now we dont have any on the Calendar except a trip we barely got on with a group I met on Facebook. That is too the Selway river in northern Idaho in late July. Ive never got to do that one as it is one of the hardest permits in the country to get. The Rogue is a really good option for newbie’s and its only 3 hours from Eugene.
@@HeartCompassAdventures Yes, we actually went down the road a little ways on a little raft thing. But nothing as cool as your trips. I had no idea. It was so hard to get that license. I do understand though why when I think about it!
I had no idea this canyon even existed
Its an incredible area and not to far from bend.
@@HeartCompassAdventures Nice! Sounds like possible motorcycle trip at least
Shhhhh ... don't tell anyone or next time you want to go you'll have to apply for a lottery to maybe win a permit and deal with the scads of trips on the river!!!
@@HeartCompassAdventures Hi there are you guys are! Haven’t got any notifications lately was wondering
@@agarcia6585 You’re in luck… Nobody listens to me anyhow lol
Wow! What a cool area, crazy canyons!! <3<3 Owyhee looks sweeeeet.
It's candy for the eyes and heart ✨🌈❤️. Hope you can experience it one day ✌️
Pretty sure I know who's back the elk (then sausage) was packed out on !
Are you friends with Dennis and Carrie?
You pack it out?
Besties! Dennis officiated our wedding!
great video, looks like you had some great camp spots. I really need to get on this river before they make it permitted which I assume they will do eventually.
The water level at 2000 cfs felt ideal. Definitely make it happen if you can!
