10 Great Metal Album Cover Art From Ed Repka #coverart #edrepka #albumart
Solid review Jeremy! I'm not going lie. I lost interest in Nightwish for a long time. Last time I heard of them was when Endless Forms Most Beautiful was released. I'm more or less outgrown Nightwish. But, I'm glad you're digging their new one.
I am more into death metal, but yes, I really like nightwish, requires a deep analysis to great composition, out of the normal. We shouldn’t review the nightwish as if they were a extreme metal, they use elements of metal as the symphony ones, so.. nightwish more than metal is a band of great music. Great review is objective and direct, hope for more reviews or reactions
Great review dude! Pretty much on point regarding how I felt about this album after listening to it 3 times (after 3 listens, that's when I give my initial review/rating). I think 'Yesterwynde' is the best Nightwish album featuring Floor Jansen. I honestly enjoy 'Dark Passion Play' and 'Imaginaerum', 'Oceanborn' and 'Once' more. Largely because the core sound (guitars, drums) stands out a bit more and there's more expression to those instruments (in my opinion). However, Nightwish's evolution in sound is interesting. Each eras of Nightwish has a good amount of music to offer and never sounds one in the same. As far as symphonic metal goes, EPICA is my favorite because they explore heavier territories (some good death metal growls contrasting beautifully with Simone's amazing clean and operatic vocals) allowing more breathing room for the guitars and drums. The orchestral arrangements in Epica's music to me are more balanced (not so over the top) where often times is more supportive than it is upfront. Anyway, it's nice to expand the music pallette checking out other styles of metal. Great review man!
why do u look like thorin from the hobbit movies
@@vlad.vol4 lol I don’t know if that’s good or bad haha
Sabaton are too basic Power Metal. I enjoy more sophisticated bands like Stratovarius, Symphony X and Rhapsody
I met Schmier from Destruction in a gas station in Switzerland! Dude is friggin huge! And a nice guy too! Super consistent band! My favorite of the Teutonic Trio!
@@PortugueseMACPOW very cool , I saw them play couple years ago with Nervosa great band , always been one of my favourite thrash bands 🤘🏻
Kennedy Center Honors is one of my favorite things during the year. Try carlos santana kennedy center honors from 2013! Also luciano pavarotti singing Nessun Dorma from the opera turandot at the 3 tenors concert. I see rappers and rockers, etc. cry. Shayne the guitarist was fantastic. He plays with kennedy Center Honors, and Rob Mathes is the arranger conductor plays like prince practically every instrument. Love his piano playing. Saw jason bonham in chicago. Told stories about his dad. Very entertaining. Hes an awesome drummer. Obviously.
1. From Mars to Sirius 2. The way of all flesh 3. L'enfant sauvage 4. Fortitude 5. Magma 6. Terra Incognita 7. The link
@@fourseasons4105 great ranking 🤘🏻
imo way of all flesh is the greatest thing they've ever made. its so singulary focused on pure aggression, and the messages and themes of the album (especially art of dying) are amazing. The whole album from start to finish is just a punch in the mouth. their other albums are fantastic as well, especially From Mars to Sirius, and incorporate a lot more prog/melodic riffs. But TWoAF is the goat imo, its a top 10 metal album of all time for me
@@thevishyfishy it’s definitely an incredible album, I just find myself going back to the others a little more , the whole Gojira catalog is very strong 🤘🏻
Great band!!
From Mars to Sirius The Way of All Flesh The Link L'enfant Sauvage Terra Incognita Magma Fortitude
Great ranking , they have a very consistent discography 🤘🏻
Fortitude over Magma for me; other than that, perfect ranking.
Good Gojira ranking, Jeremy.
@@tainted_lord87 thanks 🤘🏻
No Place for Disgrace (the original) deserves a place right beside Puppets and Rust in Peace... and the debut w Newsted is pretty unique and badass itself
First two albums are definitely all time thrash classics 🤘🏻
Just given this my first listen. Very impressed, Brian Ross has a great voice, quite remarkable really for a guy who's almost 70. I like the old school production, sounds like 1980. I hear lots of 70's prog influences, proto-thrash speed metal, all sorts going on here! No weak tracks, the back half of the album, like you say, is probably the stronger. 8.5 is my score. Brian Ross has been a busy guy, he also fronts Blitzkreig who put out a self titled album a week or two ago. It's probably as good as the Satan album, a bit less proggy and bit more melodic, excellent guitar leads throughout. Well worth checking out Jeremy.
@@petegreenfield3645 yeah the new Satan album was really solid , I’ve been meaning to check out the new Blitzkrieg just haven’t got the chance yet, I’ve heard from a few people it’s pretty stellar 🤘🏻
Ya I really liked this album. Especially for my first time listening to it. Cheers brother
Was a solid album 🤘🏻
Excellent review on the latest Satan album, Jeremy. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Another great release from this year , and another banger from a classic band 🤘🏻
I really liked this album. I agree with the two songs you’re talking about as their weakest track especially king of the underground. Cheers brother
@@MetalNeverDieswithMarkA yeah just a couple weaker tracks , but otherwise a banger for sure , definitely worth getting physical copy , cheers 🤘🏻
I like what I've heard so far. Being a big fan, I like or love every record they've released. If I had to gripe, I'd say some of the tunes could use more twists and turns. A totally different riff or two somewhere during the song. Thanks for the nice review!
@@skullkap1 was a solid album, they never really disappoint, a couple weaker tracks , but over all great stuff 🤘🏻
Good review Jeremy, very accurate summation of the album. Most of the songs are great. Not keen on the boogie shuffle tune, sounds a little odd but on the whole great album. A solid 8.5 from me.
@@petegreenfield3645 yeah just a couple weaker little out of place tracks but over all really good album , I’ve always loved that flotsam always incorporated more melody in their thrash 🤘🏻
This song brings me back. For 20 years, Opeth was my favorite band. When they went full prog, I still liked their music, but it lost what Opeth meant to me. Their epic blend of clean and growls went missing. This song will draw many from the early days, who faded with only clean vocals, back. I'm seeing them next month for the 10th time, a few days after the release of the album. The new drummer is sick!
@@mmcpa I’m excited to hear what new album will sound like , I think it will be an equal blend of old and new era Opeth 🤘🏻
Solid, straightforward review on the new Flotsam and Jetsam album, Jeremy.
@@tainted_lord87 thanks , solid album 🤘🏻
Ya that Vometor band, sounds pretty cool. I’ll check them out.
@@MetalNeverDieswithMarkA yeah man pretty solid Death/ trash band out of Australia definitely recommend 🤘🏻
Some good thrash and related bands have come out of Norway in recent years, some of my faves being - Inculter Exeloume Sovereign Shakma and last but not least my faves Vorbid who I expect to blow up with their next album, hopefully out by early next year..
@@petegreenfield3645 very cool, you gave me some new bands to check out 🤘🏻 thanks Pete , yeah Norway was a challenge since I’m not huge generally into black metal
U should check out Moonsorrow if u havent already!
@@nizsi yeah, great band just didn’t quite make my list 🤘🏻
I recently traded the Bruno Mars CD for the Motley Crue - The Dirt (Soundtrack) It's pretty good. Almost seems like an EP with 7 tracks 6 new and 1 cover. The rest is like a greatest hits. Though they don't put all the new tracks at the beginning of the album, which is weird. Also I did have a digipack of Metallica's Death Magnetic. Found a jewel case version of it.
@@christopherbarker1048 good trade, I’m not the biggest motley Crüe fan but they have some good tunes , and nice I didn’t know there was a jewel case version for death magnetic, I’ve only ever seen the digipack version
Razgate, great pick! They put a new album out last year, 'Born To Rot In Hell' solid thrash effort.
@@petegreenfield3645 yeah great thrash band I came across , haven’t heard their newest album I’ll have to check it out 🤘🏻
Awesome bunch of CDs. Most of them I'm unfamiliar with.
@@tainted_lord87 yeah a lot of underground stuff on this one 🤘🏻
Subscribed 🤘
@@zlaya_tapka thanks for subscribing, much appreciated, welcome to the channel 🤘🏻
I don’t think I have a favourite Norway band 😂 Maybe Blood Red Throne. Killer death metal band. Emperor would be up there for me. Immortal would be my favourite band from Norway. Cheers dude Mayhem sucks.
@@MetalNeverDieswithMarkA mayhem sucks? Blasphemy haha 😆 yeah I’m not really a black metal guy but I like some of early bands, was a challenge doing Norway 🤘🏻
Great top 10 of your favorite bands from Norway, Jeremy. Good to see Emperor, Darkthrone, Enslaved and Mayhem.
Thanks , was challenging , because I’m not into black metal really and that the primary metal out of Norway
I haven’t listened to it yet.
@@MetalNeverDieswithMarkA pretty good track 🤘🏻
Heard that this one and the last instrumental song are the only ones without growls so ...😊😊
Interesting , should be a killer album, perfect blend of new and old Opeth 🤘🏻
I've seen this band's name bandied about for some time so I thought I would give it a try having never listened to them before. It does indeed lack a hook but it doesn't lack in heaviness and punch! Worth a listen but I don't think I could make it through a full album, that's down to my own taste though. I can see the appeal to those brought up on this kind of modern metal.
@@petegreenfield3645 decent band , had a good debut album , unique sound, can tell it’s them right away, djent style riffs , heavy, check out their song “circle with me” still heavy but has a big chorus with clean vocals 🤘🏻
Very heavy indeed! Nice reaction Jeremy.
@@tainted_lord87 thanks, good tune, just missing a good hook 🤘🏻
I like the song. I’m not a Linkin Park fan. I think she does a good job and she has her own sound or style to her vocals. Chester definitely was on a different level of a vocalist. Not too many vocalist can sound like him.
Yeah the song is catchy definitely still has the linkin park vibe, I’m intrigued enough to want to hear more , but a downgrade in vocalist imo for sure , she sounds good but doesn’t have the same intensity 🤘🏻
As a fan of Linkin Park and Music In general Iagree that yeah No One can fill Chester's vocal capabilities but at least they haven't totally given up on the band name and are making new music. i think of it like when AC/DC Lost Bon Scott and they brought in Brian Johnson and looked how far they got in their carrier until Malcom Young passed so not all bands will sound the same or have the same success when they first started but until we hear everything they got in store for us the listeners we shouldn't be to quick to judge the new route Linkin Park is taken
@@roderickbooth6529 I’m intrigued enough to hear new album, for me Chester was the major component (90%) that made me like the band to begin with. I think the new vocalist has potential , but no matter what will never be the same , similar to Queen when Freddie Mercury died , there is no Queen without Freddie Mercury . but I’m open to give the new era of linkin park a chance
Nice review on the new Linkin Park song. I'm not going comment on the new singer or new album until the later is released. But, it definitely sounds like a new era like you said.
@@tainted_lord87 I’m interested to see what the new album will sound like as a whole , will definitely review it 🤘🏻
"The Emptiness Machine" was just a start for this new era of Linkin Park. I really want to give them and their new lead singer, Emily Armstrong (who I've never heard of till I watched their 1st live performance last Thursday), a chance. Now we just have to wait to hear more.
@@philipdr88 I’m intrigued to hear more, she’s definitely has talent and rings the Linkin Park Vibe, I don’t think she on the same level as Chester as a vocalist , but she has a lot of potential 🤘🏻
Like the new song but not going to judge this new lineup until I've heard the album.
The new song has me intrigued enough to hear new album, good song, not sold yet on new vocalist, but she has potential 🤘🏻
Great album, I've liked these guys since their debut album and this album keeps up the standard. in fact I'd say this is better than the last one. A solid 9/10 from me and easily a top 20 of the year contender.
Agreed Pete, I think it’s over all even better then the previous album, relentless, raw , aggressive, everything I want a thrash album to be, I’d be surprised if it didn’t make my top 10 end of year 🤘🏻
All killer no filler!! Cheers brother
@@MetalNeverDieswithMarkA yeah dude, cheers 🤘🏻
Excellent in-depth review for Korrosive's Katastrophic Creation!
Thanks , killer album 🤘🏻
Awesome CD collection! Lots of unknown bands to me. But I do recognize Finger Eleven, Insomnium, Power Trip, Rammstein and Megadeth.
Thanks, yeah a lot of variety on this episode
I disagree, digipacks do not have cool packaging. Curse them, we hates them. My last pickup was Sabrina Carpenter - Short n Sweet.
@@christopherbarker1048 lol jewel cases are definitely better because more durable but I don’t mind digitalis if made from a thicker paper stock
Nice to see that Mindwars CD, need to revisit their albums. I don't know that Nemesis EP but I did like their last album, False Reality, a lot, made my top 20 of 2023, great band.
@@petegreenfield3645 yeah Nemesis was a gem I came across blind buying the EP was pretty good , good band for sure 🤘🏻
It’s hard to put Sylosis in one specific genre for sure. For Arch Enemy I only listen to their first 3 albums, Burning Bridges. Heartwork is a classic. Slaughter of the Soul is a classic. In Flames Jester Race is a classic. I’m trying to get into Kalmah. Killer picks.
Yeah , Sylosis dips their toes into many sub genres , I didn’t put any of their albums in thrash list so put one here , definitely a lot of great albums and bands in this sub genre , some of my all time favs, definitely give Kalmah another spin I think they are great 🤘🏻
Great top 20 list of your favorite melodic death metal albums! Lots of big name Carcass, The Crown, Arch Enemy, Dark Tranquillity, In Flames, At The Gates, Insomnium, Amon Amarth, etc..
Thanks man, yeah some of my favourite bands are in this sub genre 🤘🏻
Carcass is always the first band that springs to mind to me. Heartwork was a bit of a departure from their grindcore days but it grew on me over time and i now consider it probably their best along with Torn Arteries and Surgical Steel. I'm not a big fan of the sub-genre overall though I found myself watching a full Amon Amarth gig recently and thought it was great, so I'll be giving their albums another chance! A couple of underground bands i do like though are Canadian band Hyperia who add a bit of thrash to their Melodic Death Metal sound, female vocalist. Their latest album, The Serpent's Cycle is probably their best. Also a UK band, local to me from Manchester, Vice. Their debut album, The First Chapter is excellent.
@@petegreenfield3645 yeah Heartwork was definitely one of the first albums that came to my mind as well , melo death has always been one of my favourite sub genres prefect blend of brutality and melody. I’ll have to check out those bands you mentioned I’m not familiar with them 🤘🏻
What music did you listen to as a teen? I’m 16 been listening to bands like Metallica, Black Sabbath and Pantera and trying to get more into metal and would like some recommendations :D
When I first got into rock / metal I listened to gunge only because it was the music out when I was around 12 . As a teenager I got into Metallica was my gateway into metal. Black Sabbath is a great place to start so you’re in the right place there , if you like thrash the early Metallica albums , check out bands like , Megadeth, Testament , Exodus, Death Angel, Slayer, Over kill , and if you want to try some bands with death growl vocals try bands like , Opeth, In flames , Dark Tranquility , Obituary
@@metalmusicmeltdown Sick!! Ive heard of some of these bands before but never listened to them so I’ll definitely check them out. I love your CD collection too but unfortunately everything is digital now so CDs aren’t as popular but still awesome collection 🤘
@WakeUp318 thanks man, and yeah definitely check out those bands you’ll like them, and I still only buy CDs I prefer the physical copy still 🤘🏻I know not as popular with younger generation , but definitely buy CDs if you can , it’s a fun hobby and supports the bands
