Great review Jeremy, not had a chance to hear it yet but I'll put that right this weekend for sure. Everyone seems positive about it, so happy days!
@@petegreenfield3645 yeah is a great album , a blend of all Opeth eras , very progressive but with harsh vocals again , some Metallic riffs, and just master level compositions , not the type of album you head bang to but just put in head phones and enjoy the ride 🤘🏻
@@metalmusicmeltdown First listen i'm very impressed J, might be the best album since Blackwater Park. 9.5/10 and already a banker for top 5 year end list.
@@petegreenfield3645 yeah it’s a insanely good album , will be in my top 5 for sure , may even take number 1 , it’s a strong contender up there with Fracture , Evergrey and a couple others 🤘🏻
Great review! What a comeback album from Opeth. A great mix of old and new from what I gathered.
Yeah man , very strong album , all eras are represented here in a well executed concept album , I don’t think there best album ever but still great
I think this album exceeded most people's expectations. Mikael is better than ever on here. This will be one of their top-tier albums and I'm grateful we got to see some "old Opeth" again.
@@SApcGUY I was blown away , but don’t know if I would say it exceeded any expectations because I just always assume greatness form Opeth and they always deliver, incredible album, the composition is so masterful it exceeds music and becomes an art, they create experiences not just music , definitely their best album since watershed , but not their best , in a ranking of their 14 albums i would put it somewhere in the 5th or 6th spot 🤘🏻
Thanks for the recommendations. Gonna check out amorphia and tabahi
@@LanzX502 some killer thrash from an unexpected place, you’ll love it, both great bands 🤘🏻
Have you heard the band harlott? Killer thrash band from Australia.
@@LanzX502 yes , great band , I considered them for the list 🤘🏻
Great Pics, nice cat
@@hsmetalhb2036 thanks 🤘🏻
#1 Geddy Lee #2 John Paul Jones #3 John Entwistle #4 Geezer Butler #5 Steve Harris #6 Pete Way #7 Peter Baltes #8 Kyle Kyle #9 Flea #10 Mike Inez
Great picks 🤘🏻
Steve Harris better then Geddy Lee NOT! lol ;-)
I can't disagree. All of your choices are undeniably influential and highly talented
@@coreyortiz2061 yeah my picks are on the predictable side , but all great musicians 🤘🏻
1. Geddy Lee (Rush) 2. Steve Harris (Iron Maiden) 3. Geezer Butler (Black Sabbath) 4. Phil Lynott (Thin Lizzy) 5. Cliff Burton (Metallica) 6. Lemmy Kilmister (Motorhead) 7. John Entwistle (The Who) 8. Les Claypool (Primus) 9. John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin) 10. Billy Sheehan (David Lee Roth/The Winery Dogs/Sons of Apollo)
@@kevinbrown1893 great picks for drummers as well , I forgot about Phil Lynott, great pick 🤘🏻
1. Judas Priest 2. Iron Maiden 3. Black Sabbath 4. Pink Floyd 5. Ozzy Osbourne 6. Jethro Tull 7. Led Zeppelin 8. Saxon 9. Deep Purple 10. The Police
@@kevinbrown1893 great picks Kevin , nice to see the Police make your list 🤘🏻
Many amazing bands. Here's my list: - Scorpions, - Accept, - Warlock, - Running Wild, - Destruction, - Sodom, - Kreator, - Tankard, - Exumer, - U.D.O..
@@fjuczer667 great picks 🤘🏻
Here's my list: - Black Sabbath: Paranoid, - Rainbow: Rising, - Judas Priest: Stained Class, - Motörhead: Overkill, - Diamond Head: Lightning to the Nations, - Angel Witch: Angel Witch, - Saxon: Denim and Leather, - Iron Maiden: The Number of the Beast, - Venom: Black Metal, - Mercyful Fate: Melissa, - Accept: Balls to the Wall, - Celtic Frost: Morbid Tales, - Destruction: Infernal Overkill, - Metallica: Master of Puppets, - Flotsam & Jetsam: Doomsday for the Deceiver, - Kreator: Pleasure to Kill, - Metal Church: The Dark, - Sodom: Persecution Mania, - Sepultura: Beneath the Remains, - Megadeth: Rust in Peace.
@@fjuczer667 great picks , I’ll probably do a few videos in this series listing more essential albums 🤘🏻
Dominique Lapointe - First Fragment Jared Smith - Archspire Evan Brewer - Fallujah are my favorites
@@FernandaPereira-ow3jo nice deep cuts , love your picks 🤘🏻
Sometimes the obvious picks are the best so can't argue with those choices. I came up with 20 so it was a tough choice to narrow it down to ten. Chris Squire gets my vote for top pick and the rest are in no particular order... 1 Chis Squire - Yes Gary Thain - Uriah Heep Geddy Lee - Rush Gerry McAvoy - Rory Gallagher Lemmy - Motorhead Joey DeMaio - Manowar Tony Levin - King Crimson Steve Harris - Iron Maiden Ron Groder - Coroner Geezer Butler - Black Sabbath
@@petegreenfield3645yeah , no real deep cuts on this one for me, great picks 🤘🏻
Awesome list of your favorite top bass players, Jeremy. Some of your picks comes as no surprise.
Yeah definitely some obvious picks In there 🤘🏻
Nice, fair review Jeremy. I'm glad you gave it a unbiased review for the new Linkin Park album. I appreciate your honesty.
@@tainted_lord87 thanks , a decent album , I think will grown on me more over time 🤘🏻
You could have made top 10 metal, rock and death metal if you wanted to. Killer stuff. Jer
@@MetalNeverDieswithMarkA agreed, such a wealth of bands out of the Uk it’s insane , definitely could have made multiple list from just the one country 🤘🏻
So many great newer thrash bands. Raider would have been a good one to put on there as well. Cheers bro
@@MetalNeverDieswithMarkA Raider is definitely killers, so many hidden gems out there 🤘🏻
This is the stuff I was brought up on in the 70's Jeremy, there's literally dozens of bands we could list like you say! Growing up we were brought up on bands that crossed over into the pop charts, bands Slade, The Sweet, Status Quo, Queen, Nazareth, Thin Lizzy to name but a few were regularly seen on TV shows and the mainstream radio so that very much set me up to then discover Sabbath, Zeppelin and Purple. My all time favourites are listed below. 1 Status Quo 2 Black Sabbath 3 Yes 4 Iron Maiden 5 Judas Priest 6 Uriah Heep 7 Led Zeppelin 8 Motorhead 9 Deep Purple 10 Saxon 11 Budgie 12 Xentrix
@@petegreenfield3645 yeah it’s almost overwhelming the wealth of quality music that came out of the UK, so many legendary bands , I never really checked out Status Quo I’ll have to give them a further listen , great picks 🤘🏻
@@metalmusicmeltdown Just a great rock n roll and boogie band with really catchy songs, I recommend the Piledriver album from 1972.
@@petegreenfield3645 cool I’ll check it out 🤘🏻
Great list of iconic bands from the UK. Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Saxon, Motorhead, Black Sabbath, etc.. So many bands we all know and love.
@@tainted_lord87 yes sir, so many massive bands out of the UK it’s insane 🤘🏻
Here's my list (not in order): - Metallica, - Slayer, - Anthrax, - Metal Church, - Destruction, - Sodom, - Kreator, - Megadeth, - Sepultura, - Flotsam & Jetsam.
@@fjuczer667 great picks , nice to see Metal Church in there 🤘🏻
The best region in music for me. Here's my list (not in order): - Black Sabbath, - Budgie, - Judas Priest, - Rainbow, - Motörhead, - Saxon, - Iron Maiden, - Diamond Head, - Angel Witch, - Venom.
Agreed , so many massive bands came out of the UK, Great picks 🤘🏻
My favourites would be (in no particular order) - Led Zeppelin The Beatles Queen The Rolling Stones Pink Floyd Black Sabbath Deep Purple T Rex The Kinks The Who Writing those before I hear yours to see how many we have in common lol. Edit - 6 out of 10 😁👏🏻
@@faithpearlgenied-a5517 great picks, great minds think a like 😉 you’re definitely leaning more into the Hard Rock Side , love the T Rex pick great deep cut 🤘🏻
What no Pantera??! What??
@@MetalNeverDieswithMarkA nope , I never was the biggest Pantera fan to be honest , I like 2-3 of their albums and yes would agree at least one would be considered essential , I’ll probably do a couple parts of this series so I’m sure will make one of my other list 🤘🏻
@ I’m playing with you. I saw the other guys comment about Pantera. It’s your list brother and I agree with you.
@MetalNeverDieswithMarkA oh lol 😆
I don’t know a couple here so definitely some homework to be done. Cheers 🤘
@@bvdaussiemetalhead9338 some great underground thrash , all must hears , cheers 🤘🏻
no Pantera there? dude don't make any more lists...IN MY OPINION
I’ll consider your advice lol these are just 20 essential albums , not the the only essential albums lol
Damn Power Trip, fcking tragedy with loosing Riley . I fell instantly in love with them with Nightmarelogic in 2017. They were playing exact thrash metal that I like. Loosing Riley is the same as Metallica loosing Burton. but the problem PT have is that Riley was the vocalist, which are practically irreplaceable. I think "stopped dead in their tracks" applies here 100% . (all of it that was written of course imo :D)
@@antondzajajurca7797 agreed. Riley was an intense and insane front man , definitely irreplaceable. nightmare logic is a top 10 album all time for me . It Riley didn’t pass Power Trip would have dominated the thrash /cross over scene RIP 🤘🏻
My all time favorite DM bands that I keep returning to - Death, Morgoth, Cannibal Corpse, Bolt Thrower and Obituary.
Sepultura, Slayer, Nuclear Assault, Overkill, Kreator, Tankard, Destruction, Megadeth and Anthrax& S.O.D. are my all time favorite thrash bands, BrR and RiB sharing 1st place for best thrash albums of all time.
@@antondzajajurca7797 great picks , I never got huge into anthrax , I love their first 3 albums and kind of lost interest after that 🤘🏻
@@metalmusicmeltdown I think it goes for all bands. Generally speaking, It takes 3 albums for bands to get "their sound" and then they basically recycle that to oblivion or change genre. :D
Sabina Classen (everybody ignores her in their lists :D ) . I think the most charismatic modern female lead vocalist is Tatiana Shmayluk (metal is oozing from her every pore :D)
Great Picks Metal Hagrid
This mf has 6.66k subscribers haha
I''m the 667 i gues
@Lavagemstomacal lol
Thanks for subbing , much appreciated 🤘🏻
Tommy Aldridge, Iggor Cavalera, Pete Sandoval, Ingo Schwichtenberg
@@antondzajajurca7797 great picks 🤘🏻
I have all these except Alrars of Madness and Melissa. It's tough to pick these lists, so well done for having a go.
@@Rodj71 yeah so many iconic essential albums , I’ll probably do a couple parts to this series 🤘🏻
Spot on. You could probably swap out Pleasure to kill for Persecution Mania for the Teutonic scene, just because while p.t.k is indeed essential it’s a bit harder to listen to imo
True , Persecution Mania is a great album, I also was debating on putting Agent Orange from Sodom , but I’ll put in the next list I’m sure I’ll do a few parts to this series 🤘🏻
@ agent orange also great choice
Wow! Enforced & Korrosive are the only bands I know of. Lots of great newer bands to check out. Great list Jeremy!
@@tainted_lord87 yeah , there are so many incredible newer thrash bands out there , definitely check these bands out , great stuff 🤘🏻
great picks mate! edit: oh, 6.66K subs. congrats!
Thanks , and lol true , doesn’t get more metal then that 🤘🏻
Great picks, can get along with all those bands, some stellar albums. Of the bands you've chosen Angelus Apatrida and Traitor are probably my favourites, solid back catalogues, no weak albums! A few more great newer thrash bands I would recommend - Algebra - Switzerland. Technical thrash, four solid albums. Anarchy - Prog Thrashers, their latest is my current AOTY...USA Bestial Invasion - Avant Garde Prog thrashers, 4 insane albums. Dead Tree Seeds - France, last two albums highly recommended Exorcizphobia - Czechia - 4 solid albums. Kobold - Avant Garde thrashers from Serbia, 4 great albums. Paranorm - Technical/prog thrash, Sweden 3 top albums so far. Sarcator - Black/Thrash from Sweden. Terminalist - Technical thrash from Norway, 2 great albums. The Bleeding - UK Death-thrash, best UK band in this style. Torrefy - Canadian Black Thrashers, new album is killer. Tortured Demon - UK, check out the vid for 'Rise Of The Lifeless'
@@petegreenfield3645 agreed both are killer new bands I need to get their stuff on physical copy, thanks for the list some new bands for me to check out I’m not familiar with 🤘🏻
Sick list! Gonna check out a few of em. You should check out Condition Critical if you haven’t already.
Extermination Plan, great album.
@@Blue_Napalm I’ll have to check it out , sounds familiar 🤘🏻
Great choices, some genre defining albums in there… I own all 20 of them… Only thing missing I think is a black metal album
@@babisnikol thanks , yeah I’m not really into black metal so not as familiar with sub genre , but the debut Mayhem album would definitely be one to add 🤘🏻
Nice list!! 🔥🔥🔥
Absolutely perfect picks. Personaly, would like the see the netx 20 🤘
@@zlaya_tapka thanks, and good chance will be a multi part series stay tuned , so many essential metal albums 🤘🏻
Cracking picks Jeremy, I think I have at least 15 of those albums on vinyl. I'll check out the Mastadon album, I've never really paid them any attention. I've picked 20 in order of release from 1970 through to 89. Black Sabbath - Paranoid 1970 Budgie - Never Turn You Back On A Friend 1973 Rainbow - Rising 1976 Judas Priest - Stained Class 1978 Motorhead - Overkill 1979 Black Sabbath - Heaven And Hell 1980 Saxon - Strong Arm Of The Law 1980 Tygers Of Pan Tang - Spellbound 1981 Ozzy Osbourne - Diary Of A Madman 1981 Iron Maiden - The Number Of The Beast 1982 Manowar - Battle Hymns 1982 Accept - Restless And Wild 1982 Metallica - Ride The Lightning 1984 Exodus - Bonded By Blood 1985 Slayer - Reign In Blood 1986 Savatage - The Hall Of The Mountain King 1987 Voivod - Dimension Hatross 1988 Testament - The New Order 1988 Sepultura - Beneath The Remains 1989 Kreator - Extreme Aggression 1989
@@petegreenfield3645 great picks man, so many iconic must have albums over the years I’m sure I’ll do multiple parts of this 🤘🏻
@petegreenfield3645 Huge respect for putting Budgie and Tygers there.
@@fjuczer667 Cheers dude.
Excellent picks for 20 essential metal albums, Jeremy.
@@tainted_lord87 thanks , there are many more I could have added might do a follow up video down the road 🤘🏻
Dave may not be 'the best', but he's certainly my favorite
@@erolbulut2584 he’s a beast behind the kit for sure 🤘🏻
A lot of my faves are on your list. Neil being my number one since I'm a big Rush fan. One that wasn't that I really think is great is Gavin Harrison who is the Drummer for Porcupine Tree and The Pineapple Thief, and has played with King Crimson.
@@matthewriddle4098 can’t go wrong with Neal at 1 he’s an insane drummer , I love Rush too. 🤘🏻
Good picks,i would stick Mike Bordin, and Danney Carey on there.
@@johnord684 definitely great drummers 🤘🏻
That's a great list! Of those 10, I saw Keith Moon and The Who in 1975, on their 'Who put the boot in' tour, saw Ginger Baker with his band, GB's Air Force, at Glastonbury 1981, saw Bill Ward and Sabbath in 1976 (my first Heavy Metal gig...though there was only that one Metal genre back then!), and I saw John Bonham with Zeppelin in 1979 at Knebworth. Now, in the 21st century, my favourite Rock drummer is Akane Hirose of Band-Maid and my favourite Metal drummer is Haruna of Lovebites - Japanese women both, but I haven't looked west for Metal and Rock for 8 years, as the very best of both worlds is being made in Japan. Same goes for guitarists - 3 from those 2 bands.
@@tonygriffin_ thanks , and very cool you got to see all those legendary bands and drummers live back in the day, I was born in 79 so unfortunately most are a little before my time , I would have loved to have grown up as a teenager in the 70s or 80s I was born a little too late lol
@metalmusicmeltdown yep, we boomers did see some great gigs!
