Steal Like An Artist, Using References The Right Way!

Steal Like An Artist, Using References The Right Way!
This is seriously underrated. I'm deadly afraid of drawing backgrounds and coloring, but I think you've given me confidence to try out this tutorial in the future.
Sorry… SIX TIMES?!
SO HELPFUL! I have been cartooning my entire life, but have not had any formal education in that area, and only recently started taking it seriously. I kind of knew a little bit about some of these tips, but it was kind of wispy accumulated knowledge over 21 years of life, so it was perfect to have these tips all lined up together in one single video, alongside others that I hadn’t considered before! I have subscribed, and will also follow up on your recommendation for the other channel you mentioned, starting with the video you suggested. I do have some questions, not sure if you will see this cuz I’m a year late, but will ask anyways in case any artist does see this and feels inclined to respond: How do you balance elements of character design - such as exaggerating and using different shape languages - with keeping your characters so they all look like they come from the same universe? Especially as an artist who works with more than one art style of a regular basis? What elements should you keep the same or similar across all characters to help them all look cohesively in the same art style? I feel like sometimes I will try to make a new character with different features and when I finish, they don’t look quite like they fit in the world I’ve bit or with the other characters’ art style. I haven’t been able to decide why sometimes this happens and sometimes it doesn’t. My other question is about how to check things like silhouette, how the character looks when it is flipped, and value with the naked eye. I am not a new artist, but typically only work with traditional art, and do not currently have means to deal with the expense of switching to digital art any time soon. I know this may just come with practice and knowledge, but would love some tips if you happen to have any. I enjoyed this video! Thank you so much for all you do, I am excited to watch another one now that I am subscribed 😊
Thanks for this! I screen shot your list of 15 skills and made it my wallpaper to help keep me focused! :) Woot! Keep up the great videos!
Thanks for your help! I have trouble of using photos as reference and struggling to stylise them how I envision and end up just creating realism so your process really helps me understand how I can get out of this loop
Thank you very much for this! This videos for sure will be a "go back to check" for any newbie artists like myself <3
Question. Why draw the values in greyscale just to go in and add shadows and lighting manually? I don’t understand

How to give credit if i post on instagram? I supose i can put their links in the bottom but whar if i dont get a link for them or if the link on the image isnt theirs and someone else stole it

Amazing tutorial! Thank you very much for sharing these!
This was so good and exactly what I was looking for! Keep up the good work! 👏🏽
My interest is using references for making music. Your video is a great example of making something original from combining things that *you* saw in your references (other people will see other things).
Thank you😊 This was useful
This is very useful, thanks for sharing!
Ok, firstly HOW IS THIS YOUR FIRST UA-cam VIDEO?! Secondly, these tips are so helpful and you explained in a clear and simple manner. Finally, YOU DESERVE WAY MORE SUBSCRIBERS
thanks!!

Woah, FINALLY I managed to take the time and long in to UA-cam again! I just wanted to say: I was sooo flattered when I first watched your video, but I never got to comment on it. I Thanks for your compliments, it made my day back when I watched it ;U; ^^ I hope your art / portfolio journey has been going well! :)
The idea for the background base to laydown the groundwork is a great idea. I think I might try that out this weekend. Thank you
OMG THIS IS AMAZING
Hey mate! :D This was fun to watch :D
Thank you for sharing your process! As a newbie to art it's always reassuring seeing you don't have to use imagination but take inspiration from many references to create your own piece! This was amazing!!
0:28 i automatically knew you're a filipino
My search for coloring backgrounds ends up here .litterely this video is too good and will make you understand everything ..... but the views not justified....I wish I could learn more from you .
Loved it bro! Just what i needed right now 💞 Subbed 🫰
This is so cool, I love the vibes. It seemed like you filmed everything so effortlessly!
Super helpful! Thank you!
Missing your vids and art, you ok bro? Sending hugs!

If anyone is still struggling with this workflow, I would suggest adding thumbnail step (before or after reference collection stage). Great video, thanks for sharing!
I've seen a lot reference tips that are a bit overcomplicated and sometimes not that effective, but this one sure is useful!!! Thanks ✌️🙏.
Napakagaling kabayan!
Would love see a full video from start to finish of a project like the reference drawing video you made
This might be the best video out of all your other videos
You really never stop inspiring, huh? I’m so invested in your journey, it’s not even funny 😅
Thank you for the support, friend!😉😁
do you listen to podcast or music while drawing? im sure you can just outgrow the hacked account numbers with your perseverance and consistency at this rate. KEEP IT UP 🔥
I listen to podcasts like mindset mentor, jay shetty, school of greatness, and deep dive by Ali Abdaal 😉 just so you know haha.. Hopefully somdeday I can outgrow it and thank you for the support 🥰😍..
This is really cool! I think it's invaluable to see how another artist spends their time. I think a lot of people just assume all the really good artists just spend every second of their waking day drawing but that's not how it really is. It's so unfortunate that your Instagram account got hacked...I actually found that account first and then followed your new one. It's very inspiring that you didn't quit after that. I totally understand how that would make you feel unmotivated, but look at you!! Still going!! Way to go!
Glad you find the video cool! 🥰 Yeah, we sometimes need to spoil ourselves a little bit because drawing consumes a lot of energy and will power haha!... I am not thinking about the algorithm anymore like I used to, so what happened to my account is for the best I guess, less stress 😂
I found you on youtube video where you explaining that how to use copy other artist like a artist so it was very help full im glad that i subscribed your channel and follow you on insta tu see amazing art pieces im wondering that when wil make the full pieces of your head piece that you posted on insta .... well lots of love from pakistan 🇵🇰🇧🇭
I loved the video! I like to know the routine of other artists, there is always something that helps to improve my routine. 😁😁I didn't know where you live (don't take this the wrong way, I don't record names of anything, not even to save my life. 😅)But I thought it was a very beautiful place! Show more in the next videos. Would love to see more!😍
Thank you for the kind words! appreciate it. Will probably create another vlogging type video soon but this time in the Philippines 😁
hey man nice video. when i finished the video and looked at the view count i was shocked. i thought this would have millions of views. i subscribed.
Thank you for the subscribe, man! maybe someday, hopefully! 😉
I have a question, how do you make most of your money if you mind saying, do you make it from UA-cam?
I make money from my day job in the office as a digital artist😊 In UA-cam, I make nothing 😅
Yay, New video! Keep em coming. Love seeing how other people do their thang. One tiny thing (only cuase I want the best for your success), the audio sounded a bit muffled and fuzzy along with being a touch too soft.
Aww thank you for the tip! yeah Ive been struggling on how to fix that.. will figure it out 😉🥰
