THE JEFF WORD
United States
Приєднався 3 тра 2014
Hi, and welcome to the Jeff Word Book Show. I love books and talking. One day I had an "episode" and I was talking to myself nonstop about books and I accidentally left a camera on and I filmed it and that's how the channel started.
I love thic books. Horror books. I mostly unbox the treasures I buy from small press publishers like Suntup and SST and Centipede as well as shelf candy from 19th Edition.
Often, the books I show are out of print. This channel is the only chance for many people to see these insanely wonderful books--though only a few do. Still, I'm like a saint, only better--without all the moralizing and fiery judgment.
I'm thinking of being a beauty and lifestyle influencer so I can get my subscriber count up. I don't know. Watch now while it's still about the books. Is this extortion? That's for the courts to decide. Subscribe today and prevent this from escalating.

Death on the Swayback by Chris Panatier | Rapture Publishing | Chapbook Review
This is a brand-new video that aged like milk. I misspoke about Chris Panatier's writing career, the release date of the chapbook, and the name of Panatier's publisher (it's ANGRY RObot, not Bad Robot!). The only thing I got right was the fact that this is a superb story of one man's hubris and battle with nature. If you love historic/environmental horror, you'll love this story. Beautifully written and illustrated. BRAVO to Chris and Mitch for a stellar release.

Rapture Publishing is here to own the chapbook game. The editions of Carved in Salt by Tyler Jones are stunning great art, great paper, great production all the way around! One thing I didn't experience in the video was the texture of the print. I examined it after filming and it's amazing to feel. Copies are still available! Where to begin reading Philip Fracassi.
Переглядів 213Місяць тому
Philip Fracassi is one of my all-time favorite authors. His books always shock, stir, and sing. Because he hasn't been on the scene for decades, there are always people discovering him for the first time and wonder what's a great place to begin reading his catalog. This video is meant to answer that. Whether it does or not is up to the viewer. Books mentioned in the video: Boys in the Valley: a...

Just teasing. It's a great find. I have two of them and got great deals. Dark Harvest They Live hardcover also. Love to get my hands on DH Swan Song.
It's a 25 purchase. How's he suppose to ship it? In a Brink truck handcuffed to his wrist and state-of-the-art case?
I see you are back from the Mccammon book signing. It was good seeing you again.
Well thank you! I don't think we talked. Sorry if I missed you.
I just received This Book is Full of Spiders. It looks nice!
I love this edition even more than the first in the series
Watch mini series you'll love it
I'll definitely consider it. Thank you!
I really rolled my eyes at the references to a certain famous book of his. This is the first king book I’ve read and didn’t know that’s normal of him
I agree about the middle. It took me two weeks to read this book because I got to the middle and then took a week and a half off because I got bored. I’m glad I finished it
It’s definitely not extreme horror and idk how it ended up in the genre. That said I absolutely loved it. Scratched all my itches.
Jason pargin is david wong. Its his pen name. Wake up people. Its the same book.
That can't be true!
Think he forgot a zero with those Little Books set. Good deal. I'm still signed up and getting those, still can't find series one. I don't even know what was in series one.
The HHGTTG is nice, and I'm almost tempted but it's just the one book. If I go for another copy, I'm hoping for an omnibus/set that includes the Zaphod story, Salmon, and the Colfer book, not just the five book trilogy. Maybe that will eventually come as an interactive encyclopedia Galactica type e-reader. Also hoping King's Ur comes that way eventually. I think it's possible. Could be a big market for physical electronic books since no one is doing them yet. Electronics are only getting cheaper, making something like this more possible. You seen the specs on laptops these days? Insane.
I don't think I ordered this one. I wonder how I missed it? One to many trips to the Pleasure Garden, mayhaps?
I think it should still be available!
@@THEJEFFWORD Ordered. Chap books are still in my budget. HAHAHA
Sounds good. Eagerly awaiting it
I hope you love it!
Word!
UP!
FIRST
BOOM
Robert McCammon is sensational. Have you read his Corbett books...probably his best work.
I'm reading Freedom of the Mask now and I'll be seeing him next week at Alabama Booksmith for his Leviathan event. If you love that series, you should definitely try to make it to Alabama on December 7th!
Good book. Excellent story. Beautiful movie. Get to the point. Americans
Funny thing about that, I remember once I was on my way to church--I was an altar boy for one week in the summer of '86 and it was the 6:15am mass and it took everything I had to get up and holy in the middle of my freedom before high school and having my soul crushed and all that. And I was hungry. So I stopped at a bakery and rang the bell and when no one came up I rang the bell for service again and then again and God was waiting for me and you don't want to be the reason Jesus is standing there tapping his sandal so I grabbed a doughnut off the baker's rack and made my way down the street to the church where I served so angelic that a woman came up to the sacristy and gave me a tip. I didn't think a person could just walk up to the sacristy and throw money around like it's a strip club. But there she was and there my dollar appeared. I took a doughnut every day that week because God made it clear that was His will. Anyway, I think Butcher Boy is fantastic.
I wonder what David Seltzer thought about the recent prequel? I couldn't stand the prequel and thought that it didn't match up well to the classic 1976 original.
Let me say that this was a 90 minute interview unedited. I had to take out a lot of his honest/unfiltered answers because he felt he went too far in his criticisms and opinions on certain things. It's been a long time, but I'm pretty sure his thoughts on the prequel was part of the stuff I was asked to cut.
@@THEJEFFWORD In other words , D S didn't like the prequel?
Where do they make the announcements for the CemDance/Thunderstorm collaborations? Haven't noticed any emails about them, and don't see em on the sites.
I'd say subscribe to the CD and Tstorm newsletters--but this is one that hasn't been officially announced yet. So it's not like any of us knew really.
Great show tonight!
Thank you!
No matter what happens with the imprint, the name is hella awkward
It is. The only worse name is Encyclopocalypse.
I just lost my Suntup virginity with a pre-order of the Gormenghast trilogy "Lettered Edition" .... years of collecting Folio Society and Easton but most recently, I really got into Letter Press after buying a pre-owned Arion press book... I am SO mad that I missed my shot at ordering the Devine Comedy Lettered Edition tho... I came to the table few months too late!
Playing catch-up at the lettered tier is going to be costly! Though now is the best time for it. It's a buyer's market and you can find a lot of titles below retail. Make sure you join the Fans group on FB.
@@THEJEFFWORD thanks, I did... I'm doing same on the Arion Press front... I just acquired a new (old stock) copy of Don Quixote owned by Andrew Hoyem as well and signed by him.. Now, I'm on the lookout for a Lettered Edition Suntup Devine comedy once they start to ship... I expect to pay a major premium.
Read this at like 9. It inspired me to be strong in adverse growing up situations. Love it. Cheers
That's a heavy dose at a tender age. But you got the best lessons ahead of so many others.
Is John Saul good?
I've heard good things. He seems to be an icon of the paperback golden era of horror, but I've never read him myself.
Word!
UP
Highly recommend….The Ritual..Adam Neville The Troop….Nick Cutter
I had someone just recommend Neville for a book club book. I need to read it.
I haven't heard anything about Brian Berry myself, I haven't kept up with things lately as I have been, but he's pretty popular on books of horror, especially for his covers. He's been writing all those shark books of late. I had this feeling before he's done he'll have more of those than the Syfy channel has movies.
That's funny! I got some details and it sounds like an isolated domestic issue--one of those in which you don't know who to believe.
Spent some time talking about Lansdale's Events. I'll say for anyone who hasn't done so, that book's a steal at 10. It's well worth it at the original price. The two stories fit extremely well together even though they were written so far apart. When you're done you'll hope he does more with those characters, though he probably won't. I haven't read as many of his as I've hoped by now, but they're all top notch. Highly recommended.
Thanks for that review! I'm so glad I got it.
When Earthling releases a new book, one should act with haste and acquire said book. Otherwise, you snooze, you lose.
100%
I'm a big fan of 3d printing, and I've got too many of my own for what I print, it's interesting to see it used in this way! And I totally get you about feeling overloaded with favorite creators, work you want to read and watch, there's just so much out there. It's easy to feel overwhelmed even by hobbies and the depth of art and artists you'll never really get to or be able to appreciate. Such is life!
And he's experimenting with fabric now so I'm very excited to see where he takes it.
Great show tonight!
An honor.
Good evening all.
good evening!
Got my books, just waiting on the slipcase. Great video dude
Thank you! Hope you're hanging in there!
Great video Jeff. This set is absolutely gorgeous. Glad to have a video showing how nice it is. It also helps that the stories are great.
The stories are going to be fun to discover!
Wait until you read Ian Rogers.
I did! I read Family and enjoyed it! I have Grey to read as well.
Nice to see you, Jeff! Hope all is well.
Thank you! Hanging in there. Hope all is well with you.
awesome stuff! once folks start seeing your's and Tim's videos im sure the rest of the numbered will sell out. people need to get them ordered before they are gone.
I'm shocked they're not gone!
Word!
UPPPPPPP!
heard that if you buy 3 copies of this you get a lottery ticket for a CD Pet gift edition... smart marketing! Hilarious review!!!
I think you're entered for a chance to have King flown to your house and cook you a meal.
Tyler Jones!!! Can't wait to get mine. I need a Jones fix badly.
I can't wait to actually read it.
Kimg is another mentally ill democrat
Great show tonight!
Nothing like a Scully show!
Wow I appreciate your eloquence
I would never call myself eloquent and my sarcasm detector is in the shop. So I don't know if you're being sincere but if you are then thank you! And if you're being sarcastic, then yes, I agree!
@THEJEFFWORD totally sincere. I don't do sarcasm - I hate sarcasm. It's not in my ability to be sarcastic - I never have. It's cheap... Sarcasm is cheap and too easy for those without the skill or heart to resist toxic responses ...cos all sarcasm is toxic. I'm sorry you were unsure of my intent. Definitely not sarcasm. Definitely a genuine compliment. But yes on the internet in general there is too much toxicity via sarcasm Best wishes - my words were genuine x
Is the art scateted throught the book or is it just in a few select places
It's on 6 individual pages paced throughout the book. But no, it's not on every chapter heading or every other page.

It's Mack-in-a
I will forever mess it up. But thank you!
A Child Alone was my first taste of Philip. Now that I've had the seven course meal of his back catalog, I'll devour all new releases. No One is Safe was fantastic, and Row was my favorite story, too. I've been getting psyched to read Sarafina when it arrives. After that, I'll be giving Philip a much-needed letter to praise him on all his genius writing, which I’ve thoroughly enjoyed. Is he the very best? To some, he is. He's ranked just under my favorite writer, but I really don't feel any difference between my top favorites--all enjoyment with no disappointment. I see him having a better career than King as long as he doesn't go on the same path King has been on a while now. But we can’t forget how King helped Philip by giving publicity to Gothic.
Who knows where the story will end. But Philip is firing on all cylinders and I can't think of an author I look forward to reading more.
