Your feelings about Fantasy and Sci Fi are EXACTLY the same as mine. I never think about reading any, I’m always looking for horror, but people have lent me some fantasy novels and I have liked many. The problem for me is that they usually end up being long series. Sci Fi does have many stand alone novels so I’m more likely to read them. I’m looking forward to hearing how you felt about the author and book.
The only time I didn't care for fantasy was when I read Brothers of the Wind by Tad Williams. It was just overwrought. There was a cool story in there, but it was buried under all this pretense. That's not the vibe I'm getting here, and the reviews are really stellar.
