Ryan Fullerton - That's Why (Music Video)
I wrote this song as a tribute to my Dad who passed away 2 years ago today. He loved writing and recording music and I couldn't think of a better way to honor him.

Day Hike
Переглядів 120Рік тому
In August of 2022, I started hiking the AT through NJ with plans to make some informational videos about various day hikes across the state. However, the project quickly turned into an emotional turning point in my life. Ten months later, I finished and now I want to share my journey with everyone.

Northern NJ Winter Euro Nymphing (Part 2), Feb 2022

February keeps throwing warm days at us, so I keep going out on the water. Was able to reel in a couple of really nice rainbows from my local waters. Tested a new Perdigon pattern I'm naming the Night Light Perdigon and had success! Unfortunately the water is still really cold and my feet were not happy. Still had a great time and can't wait to go back out.

Weather warmed up so I jumped at the chance to get back on the water. Stayed at my favorite local river and tried my shot at Euro Nymphing for the first time. I definitely still have a lot to learn, but at least I had fun.

Fly Fishing Big Flat Brook - The Hunt for One More Fish, Nov 2021
Переглядів 4,2 тис.3 роки тому
I wanted to catch one more nice fish before I hung up my waders for the winter. Cold temps and heavy rains made it a lot harder than expected. I took 4 trips to Big Flat Brook in Northern NJ and fought/lost more fish than I caught, but learned some important lessons along the way.

Fly fishing the Neversink River (Part 1), 9-27-2021
Over 30 years ago I had my best day trout fishing ever. Went through so many salmon eggs. Also memorable was after eating lunch at some bar up there and resuming fishing and had an emergency. Dropped waders on the shoreline, leaned against a tree and nature took its course. It was an Orange mudslide
I know exact spot you started at lol great trico hatch on that stream
Great video! What stream is this? Limestone Springs fish hatchery is a great place?
I like your videos very much because the video is a lot longer than the average trout fishing video I enjoyed a lot specially you're in Jersey and I live on Staten Island the only place I go trout fishing is Long Island an outfit we get the Brooks Brown and rainbows I'm definitely giving you a thumbs up on this one keep them videos coming I mean it feels like 45 minutes of this video I love
I fish there and always get skunked , it's a real masterclass river . trout are way too smart there. I can't figure them out .
Great video. Recently found your channel. Love that infectious enthusiasm from a successful day on the water.
Lamson liquid reel? Running the same on my setup. Still have yet to ever fish the flat brook and i live in NJ. Looked like a nice run you fished and your perseverance paid off! 😊
Waltz worm kinda looks like a scud! Nice video....
Where is that hole located on flat brook? I live local and I’m not familiar with it.
add some upstream mends
Thank you for sharing your story. I am very sorry for the loss of your Father. Congratulations for accomplishing what you set out to do on the AT. I am happy for you to be able to set time aside with yourself and find closure with your father out in nature. I wish you and your family the best. I am a subscriber to your channel as I am a beginner to fly fishing and enjoyed watching your experiences and a novice too. I have wondered many times this past year why you have not posted any additional videos, but now understand. I hope you still get out to fly fish. It seems to be very captivating and another way to collect yourself and decompress from the stressed in life while enjoying nature. I also don't live too far from places you have fly fished. My wife and I are from Orange County, Ny and have gone to many areas in the Hudson Valley and lower Catskill Mountains. Maybe sometime we will cross paths fishing out there. I hope you might consider doing another video of your fly fishing experiences too. Take care!
are all these pellet heads?
Great video. Can you share parking spot or whaT is close by so I can try to fish there
I loved watching this. Thank you for sharing your journey and thoughts.
🙌🙌🙌
where on the neversink did u catch?
what stream?
That's the difference between a stream with a good population of wild fish and the stocked trout you were catching in NJ. Big difference. One outing on a stream like that makes stocked trout fishing pale in comparison.
That's the best trout fishing NJ has to offer as to wild fish. Tiny bookies. There are so many streams out of the state that have superior quality and much bigger fish. I used to fish NJ up to 2013 when they stopped raising browns and bookies. Haven't bought a NJ license in 10 years. PA is so much better.
I’m new to fly fishing, I was just wondering what types of flies you were using.
Love your videos, wish I had days like that. Going up there next week ,if you can can you just give me a hint ,not the exact spot but general area ? Fished there last fall did ok,but don’t know where I was lol thanks
awesome video, name of creek ?
It's a shame that the Pequest Hatchery has had so much trouble with bacterial contamination in their holding runs (which is why they are only stocking rainbows). Not that there is anything wrong with rainbows but, I miss the browns and brooks.
You said it, man. The brooks and browns were great when mixed in back in the day. I still find browns and brooks, but its pretty challenging
Can I ask you what rod and reel do u use
"MOC"
My home waters! I have a channel in Oregon now but this makes me homesick! Looks like heck of a day!!
Looking forward for your next video tightlines
Brook and brown trout both spawn in the fall
Nice work. Can SO relate to your annoyance with the other fishermen.
Ahhh yes. The passive guy who gets skunked, goes home, has a micro-brew and writes a blog post about how everyone else ruined it and how cool nature / the view / being outdoors is.
Great results and great video. Always enjoy fishing videos from my home state as the info is more applicable than something from, let's say, Colorado or Montana. Just ordered a Greys GR80 11' 3 wt to get more into euro nymphing.
Sorry but this looks not nice that you take the net to catch the fish from the air 😑 - these are no butterflies, no flying fish ! Please net the fish out of the water, think about careful handling.
You know, you are right. I was expecting much bigger fish, so when those small guys bit, I hauled them in a little too fast. I try to get fish in quickly so I don't tire them out. When they are that small, I should try to be a little more gentle with them. Don't worry though, my hands are always wet when handling and I do my best to get them back in the water quickly. Even Bluegills and Chubs.
@@angledadventures5382 they arent that fragile man dont feel bad. They get thrown off of bridges off of trucks. They arent made of glass. I get being nice to them, but you know what I mean. You did fine dude
Alpine lakes are stocked by air drop. I think a trout can handle the short flight into a net.
What were the names of the two streams that you fished in this video?
Beautiful looking water there in New Jersey. Are trout able to hold over there throughout summer when it warms up? Glad you got your fly box back!
Good question. I'm not an expert on the Musky, so I don't know for sure. I know NJ has some water that can hold trout through the summer and winter months.
@@angledadventures5382 the musky is great. Lots of springs. Ive caught several brown and brookies in spots and many holdover stockers anytime of year. In spots, it is an extremely healthy and productive body of water 😃
try McMichael's Creek in PA, nice size trout there.
Nice day man! even with the water looking a bit stained. Have yet to drop a fly in the paulinskill and ive lived in jersey my whole life.
I like that you basically do the same thing as I do, I'm just lacking on making videos😊 love fishing and love making wooden rings kudos!
Very realistic fishing. Love to see it
Great brown trout! Don't keep it out of the water so long though.
You are right. My first mistake was handling it in such shallow water. I should have kept the net in deeper water. I was definitely not expecting a fish that big and got really excited and handed him a little too long. I learned and will do better next time.
Idk man, just by reading that water, it wouldn't be a spot that's very favorable. Particularly with the speed of the water. Maybe euro nymphing might be the way to go in that without an indicator. Just my thoughts.
Another one of my favorite spots, you're making me so homesick
Great video! That was an adult caddis that landed on your rod. The way you're fishing the fly.... ie. fly rising at the end of the run.... I'm guessing that they are taking it as a caddis pupa rising to the surface, but who knows what the fish are "thinking". I used to fish the Flat Brook as a kid 60 years ago. It's good to see that it is still a great trout stream.
You're making me very homesick, I've fished the Paulinskill for over 50 years, along with just about to every other stream/river in northern New Jersey, I now live down in Georgia, and the closest place I have to trout fish is about three and a half hours from me, and it's just not the same, thanks for the great memories

Hello can you share your experiences fly fishing northern New Jersey. What rivers did you like to fish and what setup you would use?
My Dad use to live on the Willowemoc near Hazel Bridge. They are some of the spookiest fish in the Catskills. Partially because of the tremendous amount of pressure that they see. Light tippet and small flies, natural drift are a necessity for dries. Go luck! Keep on fishing!
i've fished behind harry darby's old house....nice. enjoyed your video !
I'm really sorry to have so much to say. Consider going barbless, especially when bluelining.
Downsize your flies and shorten up your cast. When bluelining a 7" - 9" brook trout is the the typical size you'll find. It's very rare to find a 12" Brookie or bigger in small backwater creeks like those. A Chubby Chernoble is way too big to even fit in their mouths. Brookies aren't picky at all but they have to be able to fit it in their mouths. Thanks again for taking us along.
Thank you for taking us out with you. Just a suggestion, go easy. You're moving your line a lot. You might be spooking them a bit.
That's why you shouldn't use the old school nets like that. Hopefully you didn't do too much damage to him
Congratulations on your PB! Nice video! Tightlines
Thanks!
Wow! great trout day up there in north Jersey. I'm stuck down here in the southern waste lands. What is your leader configuration? and fly line? Please share your details, its obviously a winning configuration. Also what rod are you using, is it a standard 10-ft long euro type pole ? Great video, I really enjoyed it.
Thanks for watching. That was my most productive day ever, so don't take that as my average day fishing. I went all out on the rod (T&T Contact 2, 3wt, 10'9"). Then I cheated a bit with the line (Rio Euro Nymph Line with integrated leader). From there I use 4x two-tone Rio indicator line, then to my tippet material, where I'm usually using either 6x or 7x Trout Hunter fluorocarbon.
@@angledadventures5382 Sounds like a 1st class set up ! What about that wading staff of your's ? my eye kept admiring that also as i need one - what brand and are you happy with it?
