A NEW and Unique, Virtual Stroke Recovery Group led by Karen D. Sullivan, PhD, ABPP, board certified neuropsychologist and author of the I CARE FOR YOUR BRAIN Interactive Stroke Recovery Guide, featuring 10 Zoom Webinar Replays featuring Dr. Sullivan's 10 Rules of Rehab.
Rule 10: THE TRANSFORMATIONAL POWER OF ACCEPTANCE. Approach acceptance with the same tenacity as other aspects of recovery. Fighting what is has its place in stroke recovery. The tough determination you need to push through an intense therapy session will benefit you, no doubt, but there is also a place for acceptance at various points in your recovery. If you approach acceptance with the same tenacity that you approach other aspects of your recovery, it can have a truly transformational effect.

Top 10 Secrets to Brain Health #10
I tried every sleep aid that could be prescribed. This is the only thing that helps me sleep. I was also prescribed it for anxiety as needed. It’s a damn miracle drug 😂
I am 38 years old and have been feeling dizzy for over 24 hrs and the MRI deflected white matters in the brain
I truly appreciate tge information provided. Thank you so much!!
Ambien helps me. Because of my job I’m often up late into the night. I was sleeping 2-3 hours a day/night.
i have been on 32hundred mg and dont have any of these symptoms that are bad at all i take it for nuropithy pain damage i was hit by a car while walking
After a heart attack my cardiologist put me on lipitor 80mg i was teaching a class and realized that morning i was an idiot and clueless i couldnt put my thoughts together to teach that class i said to myself damn this is the high lipitor causing this so i quit taking it since i could hardly walk also from the pain in my legs It took a few days and the brain thinking returned and the pain in legs subsided. I havent taken these meds at the irritation of all the Dr.s for many years and never will again too many side affects.
Has there been studies on gabapentin and ADHD?
All of what you discussed has me thinking that parenting and the relationship part of life would be so much harder to find stability and a healthy mindset. Moms not feeling emotionally supported and fathers looked at as not emotionally available. Im curious to your thoughts.
Statins do not have a 40 50% benefit rate, it is 1% if you take statin every day for 5 years you have an increased mortality by 4 days. Oxford researcher Collins department was paid 200 million by the manufacturer of statins, conflict of interest me thinks and the trail was flawed at best. Also beans and legumes are high in natural pesticides they are not good they are really toxic for us. I agree on full lipid investigations and work from there. Watch UA-cam (powerfulJRE) cardiologist on the over prescribing of statins for heart.
I started having tremors May 6th of this year and have been searching for answers! Neurologists are stumped so I have been referred to a movement specialist. I’ve had vertigo, vision and balance issues, vestibular migraines, and difficulty with emotional regulation all my life, and now I have a rhythmic tremor only when I stand upright. I’m on the west coast, could you recommend someone in Seattle I could see? I need help!
I took Gabapentin in the 90s and had the most horrible nightmares of my life. After two nights, I stopped the med and reported the side effects to the doctor. Through the years my pain doctor kept trying me on newer versions of nerve meds until I became suicidal and went off in tears on the doctor. During ALIF/PLIF surgery, I was given a nerve block that made me so restless and irritable I could hardly stand myself for seven days. I simply can’t take any med that works on the nerves because they make my brain crazy. I have severe osteoarthritis with multiple surgeries and joint replacements as well as spine damage up and down from a bad car accident in 1984. Living with pain is very difficult but I don’t need my brain to go insane on top of all that.
I was put on Gabapentin because of neuropathy in my feet and hands. I went through chemo because of Lymphoma. They had to stop the chemo because it was destroying my bone marrow. I'm 6 years after diagnosis. Brain fog is horrible. I can be looking at a person I've known for years and can't remember their name. I've been in a store and didn't know where I was, how I got there, did I come in alone, if I drove then where did I park. So many times it's mostly cognitive. I'm prescribed 200mg 3x a day, but I only take 200mg at night. I would love to go off Gabapentin and tolerate the neuropathy to see if the brain fog improves.
This lady is well studied.
25 percent reduction over the course of 4 days is not slow slow slow. That is very rapid. The more experts learn about all this they will be recommending a 10 percent reduction per month such as with xanax
Like the video but too many ads.
I will never take them again it was only tablet
I was given this one tablet made fall over then they put me another one which made me go numb. For waste down most frightening thing
I’m surprised at all the hate Dr Sullivan is getting over this. She has no big pharma to rep, but is trying to explain to everyone who can have an open mind that there is no “silver bullet”, no magic elixir to be purchased. She further cautions against believing a lot of hype by media and private businesses that want to capitalize on your quest to either live healthier or find answers to your specific problems. If anything this Neuro Psychologist is trying to warn you that this stuff can create negative reactions and that supplements are not regulated by anyone- pretty much the same industry that Snake Oil sellers came from. Of course, we laugh and say “Oh, this has research behind it”, when in many cases it is industry-funded marketing pitches disguised as Research. She is also saying in a very sweet way “Don’t be SHEEP!”. There are very few “one size fits all” supplements that, alone can have such a profound positive effect and that the chances of you blindly taking some of these supplements can cause severe and even fatal/irreversible damage. Everyone is unique with regards to your metabolism, brain chemistry and even hereditary. The absolute minimum is to spend the necessary time researching multiple sources from established medical/scientific journals such as PubMed, not just doing a simple Google search and reading a bunch of random consumer reviews and comments. I’m continuously astounded by the sheer lack of common sense, and folks knee-jerk responses that imply some sort of conspiracy with the govt or that this person is some kind of sell-out for what, some Big Pharma UberLords? Some people just don’t have the comprehension necessary, so they go on the attack and write snarky, hateful comments. I assure you, the kind of substances these people need are beyond any modern medicine. Just move on if you have some kind of issue; not all YT channels are for everyone. That’s the beauty of this kind of platform. There’s no need to ridicule and hate. End of rant. Thank you and have a wonderful life.
This information was incredibly insightful. Recently I was injured and a young Dr wanted to give me Gaba abs I turned it down. My mother sister son have all taken it and I did not see any positive results in them doing so. They all got off of it. Also I drive school bus and felt that it just was not a good drug for me to be experimenting with fire nerve pain. A description that I use for brain food is that I feel my brain is in the clouds or sometimes feels like a big marshmallow. When I get over tired my brain feels this way. I look forward to more of your videos and appreciate your hard work on the information you give. Thank you. ❤
I hope you all can interpret what I just wrote. Auto correct is not my friend 😂
My husband (72 yr old) was given 600mg q 8hrs for intractable "phantom pain" after a below knee amputation when opioids were ineffective. He was screaming in pain feeling that his amputated foot was still present & submerged in a turkey deep fat fryer. It did not help much. The side effects were startling. Extra-pyramidable symptoms of dystonia, tremors, startleness "jumpy" twitching both arms and legs, tardive dyskinesia; mumbling speech, delirium. Lyrica and clonipin were added. It became worst and the pain was still there. They had to stop it all. Time. He needed time to let the severed nerves quiet down on their own. It was the worst month of our lives ever. We stopped the meds but he now has akathisia (restless legs syndrome). Unless you are epileptic, I wouldn't recommend gabapentin for pain; especially in the elderly.
At the moment I wasn’t well informed of what a stroke was … so I didn’t fully understand until way later
Thank you so much for this video. I'm 38 and got the scary "leukoaraiosis" diagnosis, which claims to be progressive when you use google. I hate google. I got this result 2 years ago: Small T2 hyperintensities in the left frontal deep white matter (series 8 image 25) A few similar smaller T2 hyperintense lesions are identified in the right frontal white matter and the subinsular region (series 7 image 18). What scares me is that I do have a family history of Alzheimer's, dementia, and Parkinson's. I've also had this strange burning smell appear intermittently since 2020 and VERY poor short term memory. Like forgetting appointments on the same day I make them. My neurologist believes the damage is either from a migraine variant or seizures, since I've developed photosensitivity and had a focal seizure during an eeg. I'm just VERY scared.
Want to help your brain take lion's mane mushrooms because all the nexium that I mind causes early dementia well guess what I was forgetting everything I took lion's mane mushroom tincture and I'm 100% again
And would have been really nice if the medical community would have explained to me that most over the counter let alone prescription medicines like pretty much everyone I'm on has every creature is venom on the planet in it everything has venom why don't they take that into consideration when they're prescribing this stuff cuz nobody ever told me and I ain't happy about it
Okay so I have fibromyalgia degenerative disc disease voltage herniated disc arthritis pinched nerves and I have been on so many medications including gabapentin for 20 years or maybe I don't know a long time anyway I recently taking my self off of most of the medications because I can't tell the difference between the pain and the side effects and everything else about the only thing that has actually ever helped me is narcotics and thank God I have a doctor that works with me I also tried to go off of that using wild lettuce and stinging nettle tincture and every herbal pain remedy I could come up with and that didn't help and gabapentin I don't think it does anything at least not for me
The point you made at 1:43 regarding aluminum absorbtion makes me think a bit... If studies show that aluminum does not get absorbed into our bodies as much through ingestion then what other reasons could there be for having excess amounts of aluminum found in the brain? Many of us vaccinate the most during childhood and when we're much older because of developing or weakened immune systems. Is it possible that a higher concentration of aluminum could deposit in the brain from repeat injections thus contributing to Alzheimers and other diseases?
Don't listen to Muppets or the medical industry gabapentin can cause psychotic episodes.... Doctors don't care if you're healthy They only care that you need them.
I took it briefly when I was 45 for lingering pain after shingles. Seriously messed up my thinking, had to stop after just a few days.
Weight gain
Made me ache all over after 3 months. I stopped taking it and was fine. I knew the dr would up my dose. I was not willing to take a higher dose
My daughter passed away from respiratory failure she was taking gabapentin, yeah, I don't agree with this chemical, drug
Seems everyone is being Rx'd this for VERY diverse reasons & have wondered if it increases COMPLIANCE.👀
I LOVE it, 1500 mg a day works better then anything else I've used for my nephropathy, restless leg syndrome, hip pain and right ankle severe pain. Worried though about kidney issues that might develop from it now, 66 years old.
Gabapentin helps my restless leg syndrome in combination with pramipexole
I love how you explained thanks for sharing ❤
Does Gabapentin cause hair loss 📉 ?
gabapentin has probably literally saved my life, I've been on it for years... I have moderate-severe cervical arachnoiditis + arthritis + degenerative discs + etc, and the pain is truly horrific without it. I still have pervasive chronic pain, gabapentin just makes it ease up enough to have some okay days where i can do a few chores, maybe take a short walk, and work on art or read for a bit... I miss so much about being more active, but grateful it's enough to help me not need to selfexit (was initially prescribed opiods for pain w/gabapentin, stayed on them for a year or so at ever increasing doses and that whole time period is like a shadow maze, barely found my way out) arachnoiditis is pretty rare so if anyone's curious, it's a lot like how i imagine it would feel to constantly have dry ice inside your mouth/throat/skull/neck + that stabby tingling foot fell asleep feeling but ALL OVER (everywhere but belly) + fun stuff like sporadic blurry vision and janky proprioception/balance... I def get major brain fog but it's from pain/symptoms, not meds
Look for The Wheelchair Dad. He has that condition on top of paraplegia but he’s strong & very involved with his family. The pain is overwhelming at times. ✌🏽
Tell me about it. Universities get government funding to do research and then publish it in places that have a payroll. The professors I believe are profiting from the government funding.
I started getting head vibrations after I went off of bio identical hormones I was on for 3 years. I did slowly step off of them. I listened to a chiropractor from Ft. Myers, FL who said it can be from neck instability, doing repetitive actions like looking down at your phone all the time. I get them typically early mornings, like 5-6am. I don't feel anxious or depressed. I do have degenerative disc in my lower back which is pretty bad but my neck doesn't hurt me. I'm going to have my neck x rayed by my chiropractor.
This data is old and should be updated.
I don’t do Facebook, believing that Meta is one of the most evil organizations ever, so I was glad to find your post on UA-cam, though Alphabet is on a par with Meta. I’ve been taking gabapentin 600mg for years for sciatica (radicular nerve pain) and was interested in the side effects which my VA doctor never discussed. I’m 72 and have started to develop occasional mild tremor so I’ll be taking with my new doctor soon. Thank you for presenting as unbiased information as you can, we’re all biased. So far, for several years, I have been pain free. Perhaps I can decrease or eliminate my gabapentin consumption, in consultation with my doctor, of course.
Cholesterol levels change constantly. A test is like taking a photo of a freeway. The photo might have been taken at rush hour or at 2am and assuming that photo shows how the freeway is 24/7
Triglyceride / HDL ratio is a better indicator of health
American Heart Association takes money from Pfizer who makes Lipitor
Thanks
I am 86 and have tried different pain killers over the last 20 years or so. I had a brachial injury and subsequently a nerve graft. The nerve pain has gotten progressively worse over the years. I have yet to find any medication that can help without significant side effects. I don’t want to take opioids for fear addiction. I did get a script for Gabapentin. 100mg. Twice a day. But was afraid to take it because of adverse findings. The people who were adversely affected by this drug did not say how much they were taking per day. Nights are worse for very bad pain. I fear brain fog which I experienced upon taking various meds. As a result of my accident I am left with only one good hand. Also as a result of the nerve graft the right diaphragm is paralysed because the surgeon grafted sural nerve to phrenic nerve to biceps on my right side. surgeon
Hi I was diagnosed in 2022 but before that I had a terrible time with my medical practice they were saying I needed a psychiatrist physiatrist medication attention seeking another refused me any scans or tests and at that time I was using a walking stick another dr said you look alright in the outside and I said its in my insides i had a battle to get referred to neurology I was coming out the surgery more stressed than what I was going in my nerves are brick hard very heavy I get tugging pulling turning twisting also acting like a pull cord as well im now using a walking frame I also have mild cerebral palsy mild autism my nerves they stand up before collapsing I also have nerves that feel like threads and my feet are tangled up and I have nerves feel too big for me wearing shoes trainers are horrendous I have squashed together nerves and right at my left foot I have this turning twisting also they can go ballistic crazy I have them doing all sorts I started getting symptoms October/November 2019 as I had a friend who had assaulted me the day after another friend passed away this friend left a lot of trauma behind because I wasn't getting anywhere with the drs I took an overdose but this time last Yr I was using a walking stick and doing exercises decorated bedroom but this yr things have worsened im now using a walking frame the pain is excruciating im not able to do exercises im hardly out the door I've since had a few suicide attempts overdoses not coping before I was always out and about now im not its turned my life upside down I do see a phycolagist I have in my younger yrs had a lot of trauma as well I just can't believe that trauma can do this life just unbearable
I had my first brain zap a couple days ago. I started a detox diet hoping this helps.
I wouldn't like to have the neuropathy in my feet without Gabapentin! You can't villainize Gabapentin and not offer alternatives. Love your smile!!!
Does it
