    Good info! Got an enigma for you - 1997 ram 2500 12v cummins. Just had the PCM repaired, replaced both batteries, cleaned and repaired battery connections, replaced alternator with a brand new ACDelco 120a unit. I get positive and ground on my small wires on the back of the alternator when the engine is running, but only battery voltage on the hot lead off the alternator. Checked continuity on the hot lead as well as the fusible link in the fuse box. Also, my tach is not working and I get a GEN light on my dash. My Launch scanner shows RPM while the engine is running - I would assume that means the ESS is functioning. TPS shows 16% at idle. Any idea WTH is going on?

    • @swc-diygarage
      @swc-diygarage 2 місяці тому

      The gen light is referring to the alternator. Disconnect battery from back of alternator and test for voltage right at it with engine running. Just because it's new doesn't mean it works. A lot of parts stores will test it for you no charge if you remove it and take it in. The tach meter may have just plan quit or is stuck. Tap the gage glass and see if it moves.
