Hi. You can try with the cup not more than half full of powder. I guess these style of guns need some space in the cup to mix with the air before leaving the barrel. Also on wide parts like the ones you just did, they would usually hang it with the broad side vertical. That way the powder stick due to electrostatic change only. What maybe happening is the overspray powder falling on the surface and staying there due to gravity. You end up with way too much powder as can be see with the orange peel look on the finished product. And yes, it is a very finicky process.

Totally agree. Parts should be hung and sprayed. Half a full cup of powder does work way better.
