Kansas Pacific and the Chinook Lines visit the Rock Island Lines in HO Scale
Free-lance modelers, Anthony Lorch (Kansas Pacific) and Joe Bohannon (Chinook Lines) brought their locomotives and grain cars over to my Rock Island Lines model railroad. Chris Palmieri, owner of Home Shops LLC, conducted a photo and video shoot of these two free-lance model railroads.

Beautiful layout. Thanks for sharing. Dave
Chinook Lines rem8nds me of industrious MidSouth Railcorp. I don't know how much grain they hauled, but engines are similar.
I lived along the CGW Kansas City line and I never saw the GP30's mixed with F-units. It was always 5 or 6 F-units, 4 GP30'2, or 3 SD40's. I'm not saying that they never did though. There might have been exceptions. The Leslie air horns didn't show up until the arrival of the GP30's. The Mars lights on the F-units could be seen at night several miles away sweeping across the sky.
That was impressive. Both freelance road are very well done, quite professional looking, very nice long train and multiple units. The Chinook line motive power and hoppers are great and so is the weathering (superb). Great video.
this is superb, love the HH GP35 giving off those Southern vibes also the old Chinook Paducah Geep. This entire video is a crowd pleaser.
What kind of diesel's combination is that Kansas Pacific # 4400 unit made up of? Back two-thirds of a SD45T-2 and front one-third of a SD75M cab with a part of a GE unit behind the cab section? Enquiring minds want to know...? Good show!
Ok so that engine is what is known as a SD44LEO which stands for Low Emissions Hi-Output. Its a joint venture between KP and Stephens Railcar Rebuilders. This engine is the first step into emissions control for locomotives that SRCX is experimenting with. SRCX took an old RG&S SD45T-2 and added a SD60M for safety, repowered it with a Caterpillar engine (notice the exhaust stack towards the rear of the car body) and new electronics which is the cabinet behind the cab. In a nut shell thats it.. Hank Stephens of Georgia Road is the brain for the project and I am the builder.
@KPSD60 Alright...I see the engine in more detail on the Kansas Pacific model pictures sight on Meridian Speedway sight. Like the "hearld" of the lion, LEO & CAT headlines.
Excellent. Enjoyed.
Great video!! These two gentleman have done a fantastic job on weathering, especially the old RI covered hopper.
Those are some excellent free lance paint schemes! Thanks for posting!!
Great video Mike!
Thank you for sharing. Very, very nice. Those locos sound fantastic; they have the CVs set just right for the volume. Thanks for sharing Mike.
Very nice railfanning! Thanks!
I love the scene where the train snakes slowly around the curves @2:11.
This is one of those railroads that I have never seen modeled previously, just like the Frisco, so it is awesome to see someone branching out in a new direction and doing it well. Well done!
I appreciate your comments and thank you for watching the video. Mike
Always thought CNW's 45's were cool looking without DB's. Really appreciate the difference in yellow as well. Great video Mike! Cheers. -grant
Thank you, Grant. Yes, the non-dynamic C&NW SD45 locomotives had a unique look to them. Happy Thanksgiving and best wishes to you and your family! Mike
Beautiful layout!
Scaletrains units?
Yes sir, ScaleTrains models.
Another great video. A couple of questions.1) In a case like this, would a Rock Island crew take the train from start to finish? 2) On a short stint, say 50 miles from one junction to another junction where the train would get onto the Rock, and then back on home rails, would a CNW crew take the train over the Rock with a Rock Island pilot on board?
@@toddbehrends1373 - Detouring trains have the detouring railroads crew on board with a pilot from the owning railroad. This would apply to both of your questions. Thanks much for your comments! Mike
Amazing view of your amazing layout with a very long freight wow. The locomotives are quite impressive . Is the bell an electronic bell ? I do not know when they started to use one [in real life] Lots of great view along the layout such has the view over the bridge and Clear Lake Jct. Always a pleasure to see your video and layout in action.
The locomotive bell is a “gong” bell made by Western Railroad Supply. These bells are mechanical bells similar (same) as the bells on grade crossing flashers and gates. These bells were mounted on the nose of the locomotive and were unique to the C&NW and a few other railroads. Thank you for watching the video and I appreciate your comments. Mike
@@rimodeler7963 Thanks Mike. I noticed the bell on the nose but wasn't sure if it was "active" during that time. Thank you very much for the explanation. I appreciate it . Syl
Thank you, Mike, for posting another great video. Detour trains are always neat to see on your layout.
Very impressive!
Great CNW run.
Great Video and love the scenery on your layout
Thank you very much! Mike
A very nice, smooth running layout and excellent scenery. I love the operating signal system. Thank you for sharing and giving us in the community a bunch of ideas for our dream layouts.
Your comments are very much appreciated. Thank you! Mike
Thank you for sharing. Nice catch Mike, very much enjoyed.👍
Always great to hear from you, Gary. Thank you! Mike
Thanks for another great video.
Love those C&NW colors!
As always, a fantastic video Mike! The layout looks great! Those CNW SD45s are neat units by not having the dynamic brakes. I actually weathered one for a friend who lives nearby. Thanks for the video! John
Thank you for your comments, John! Mike
Always love seeing your amazing layout, especially with the CNW running!
Thanks so much! Mike
Enjoy watching trains run on your awesome layout…
I appreciate it and thank you! Mike
Hey Mike, Another masterpiece. I loved the Northwestern 45s and your weathering on them is perfect. I always enjoy seeing your beautiful layout. Heck you could do a Thomas the Tank engine video and I would still watch it just to see your layout. Please keep them coming and Happy Veterans Day.
Thank you so much for your comments which I really appreciate! Mike
Hey Mike, thanks for the CNW action. Always a pleasure watching your videos.
Thank you very much. Mike
CNW yellow and green is definitely sharp livery
Hi Mike! Always brightens my day to see a new upload of yours! Not to mention, the SD45 is one of my favorite EMD locomotives.
I appreciate your comments and thank you for watching! Mike
The Rock had more paint schemes than locomotives. 😅
You got that right! Thanks for watching. Mike
M&StL has interested me ever since I received a Lionel set containing a car with their paint scheme in the mid-60s. I always thought it was cool. I’ve long been fond of the midwest grangers although I’ve always lived in Oklahoma.
Thanks for checking out the video. I agree that the M&StL paint scheme is very nice. Mike
Wonderful video - looks like you guys had a lot of fun!
Mike, Great video! Your layout is a joy to operate. It runs so well. Just needs some Alco power in red/ light gray.😉🤔 Looking forward to my next time there. Hope to see you in a couple of weeks at the Red River RPM in Forrest Hill.
Thank you, Wyatt.
Good times on the Rickety Rock😊
Well Mike, I liked watching these guys operate. The Ole guy with the hand signals, great video.
Thank you for watching the video, Ron. Mike
Loved that Helix shot
The layout was truly a pleasure to operate on - plenty of room to open up the throttle between towns, as well as the design of the towns/industries themselves. I also gained a new appreciation for the Rock Island's [many!] liveries. Thank you, Mike!
It was great having you visit and operate the layout, Adam. Thanks! Mike
Rock 🪨 🎸 🤘 and Roll!!!
Fantastic layout, and operating session!
Thanks for the video Mike. You had some great looking power lashups running that day. I especially liked the manifest with all four axle Geeps!
Thank you for your comments, John! Mike
05:41 I love that super elevation and passenger train!
That was very nice video of Operations with a professional crew. Your layout is impressive and so is the helix. Great video well done.
Looks like you have some good operators there. Thanks for inviting us along.
Another great video of the best looking Rock layout on UA-cam. Thanks for posting it!
I appreciate your kind comments. Thank you! Mike
Thank you for sharing. Looks like everyone was having a good time. 👍
