Center for Heirs' Property Preservation
United States
Приєднався 3 січ 2014
The Center for Heirs' Property Preservation provides legal and forestry education and services to protect heirs' property and to provide the sustainable use of land to provide increased economic benefit to historically underserved landowners. In South Carolina, heirs' property is land owned primarily by African Americans who have passed down their land through generations without a will. That land is then owned "in common" by all of the heirs and is vulnerable to loss. The Center is the only non profit in S.C. providing free, comprehensive education and legal services to help HP owners to protect and keep their land. Currently the Center serves 22 S.C. counties: Allendale, Bamberg, Beaufort, Berkeley, Calhoun, Charleston, Clarendon, Colleton, Darlington, Dillon, Dorchester, Florence, Georgetown, Hampton, Horry, Jasper, Lee, Marion, Marlboro, Orangeburg, Sumter and Williamsburg. Please call us at 843-745-7055

I wish I had family that passed land down to me, I always wanted to own land here in America but since it was out of my reach financially I purchased land in the Motherland. I plan to build a life there my kids will cherish years to come. They fortunately know the value of land and look forward to it.

Thank you for sharing with us such an informative video! God bless you all, and your life’s journey. May we all forever remember what the Scripture speaks of! That “The Earth Is The Lord’s, The Fullness Thereof, The World , And They That Dwell Therein”.
Can't y'all see Blacks were always the value?! Why would anyone lower the persons they fear? The heart of a man loves and the heart of a beast hates! Their tactics: divide and conquer. Anyway black people turn their laws are against them. Was Jesus a Black man? LOL lynching crucify???
Will block you
Can't believe the ribbish you talk do it in people who work
I want to come home!! 😢

Building interstates through our communities is how they have always devalued, destroyed and taken out land. He was very wise in bringing up how they saperate the community physically first. Then the noise and physical pollution comes next. When you look at cities, that is the history of the degradation of middle class and affluent black families.
My grandparents owned some land on Edisto Island, I think my cousin sold it
Heired property in all states,hello?
Greed and ignorance destroys.
What do you think happened with.highway.65?😮
Lose our land = lose our history. We have to remember how precious our land really is. Many of our ancestors worked for years to acquire and keep property. Why sell the land and then rent from someone else? Great question.
It is amazing how minority communities are always slated for destruction when highways or dams are planned. Some times people are not informed and don't know how to fight when their communities are slated to be destruction. We have to fight and continue to stay informed. Keep your land. You can make money you can not make more land.
I don't understand all this professional player in NFL and NBA should help this people keep this land in high proportion so they can pass it the next generation
So true but if u have sibling that don't want u to have it after uve paid taxes for over 30 yrs and stoped because it's inherited property and they won't sign off to let me have it solely to k eep sad.
Thank y'all so much.
Don’t sale please brown ppl don’t do it they did this to our black community now all Mexican people and lot of fast food and hood stores
It’s not so much as educating yourself about land laws, the deck is being stacked against them. The state/county uses TAXES to force them out or these ridiculous traffic changes 😢 AFRICAN AMERICANS STOP SELLING YOUR LAND… lease it out if you need money… that way you have residual income.
This is making my BLOOD BOIL😡 Seeing these people being forced off of their property and homes that they have owned for centuries. 😢
I was born in Charleston SC raised in Estill County , my ancestors are maner, Smiths, Allen's kings we have deep roots in the south
I fear my grandpa kids which are my uncles are going to sell his land that's been in our family for two centuries. They don't understand the legacy of our ancestors even having land & are so quick to get rid of everything once the elders pass. It's disgraceful in my opinion.
A great service for Indigenous Americans, reclassified as black and african American
My family has heirs land in Texas and some of the descendants live on their share of the land, a few acres have been sold. Part of the problem is it is in the country, not a lot of industry there, its in Texas and many of us live out of state. It is cool that it has been in our black family for about 100 years and the family reunion is held there every summer. At least the concensus of this generations heirs is we should keep it in the family at all costs. Each family pays a share of the property taxes each year, which are low as long as there are grazing animals on the land. Thank God for my country farming cousins.
I really enjoyed this video. The people were well spoken and the interviewer asked great questions.
I'm happy this organization exists. Please entend your services to the Migrated Gullah Geechee who want to hold onto their Southern roots, because it enables generational- bloodline- cultures to continue on.
Center for Heirs property, please let the people in this video know that they can use compost toilets, wells and a basic two person septic systems. Also they can use incinerating septic systems, solar toilets, and solar showers. The advantage of living on/near marsh- Wetlands, Bogs and in a flood zone, is that you only need to dig 100 feet with an auger to get well water. The Town won't tell them this information, because they want to tax them off their property (PLEASE NOTE, THESE UTILITIES MENTIONED, MUST MEET THE STATE'S HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICE GUIDELINES.) I'M GULLAH GEECHEE AND I FIND LAND AND RESEARCH DEEDS FOR OUR PEOPLE.
In ocala there taking everyone land.
This may rub some folks the wrong way. But, back in the day, we needed land to farm, feed ourselves and survive. However, farming is not what most young people are interested in. Land usage has to be updated. Talk with the young people about ideas for land usage other than farming. Perhaps they can build houses that are worth renting out or some other kind of businesses. Otherwise, If they sell the land, they can still invest in something that is worth having today. Holding on to land and not making use of it, will only lead to more land loss.
I loved watching this update after having found you guys a while back from your documentary about your mission and historically AA communities with KJ Kearney! I would love to get involved but I'm far from you guys in St. Louis Missouri. I share you guys' mission. As a 23 year old from the North (chicagoland area), there's hardly anyone around me who cares about this issue or who even knows enough to care about it. But I'm determined to change that! :) Please please please keep going!

We are not black or African American or freedman

The land can't be divided up among the family and individual family members sell to outsiders. They will create a plan, and force all the others to sell. It is happening under your noses. Property laws are used to appropriate the land.
If only the people that didn't want their share of the land would just forfeit it to those that do want to keep it in the family. My gosh
Greed won't allow it. I'm dealing with this in my own family
Sad part about this video is that they still haven’t learned from this. They are still talking about passing it to future generations as heir property. The only way to be safe from heir property is to go through probate and divide the land through individual deeds. The black community is always concerned about not selling so leaving it as heirs. As long as it’s heirs outside children great grands on so on you never heard of can come in and claim entitlement and lawfully thu are entitled. 19 brothers and sisters in Mississippi how many grandchildren and outside children do you think they have circulating around the US? Better get that land deeded out. Only thing you can do is pass it down you can’t worry if future generations will sell it or not it’s their decision at that point. If you teach them to have value in it maybe they won’t. He is property is the quickest way to lose you land in the US.
Mother does not look 91. She looks and sounds great
Heirs property should be ran according to a percentage ownership basis on acerage if someone owns 1 acre out of 100 acres thats 1 percent. 51 percent majority has the say.
