  • The Center for Heirs' Property Preservation protects heirs' property and promotes the sustainable use of land to provide increased economic benefit to historically underserved landowners. Most heirs' property in the Lowcountry is land acquired by African Americans after emancipation. Much of that land has been passed down through the generations. Understanding family trees and the importance of ancestors and our elders are so critical to the Center's mission and work. This video helps capture the essence of honoring our elders and in recognizing their life journey and experiences. We learn from them and are thankful for them, and for those who have gone before. This project was made possible by the Gullah Geechee Preservation Project, funded by the South Carolina Department of Archives and History, with special thanks to Senator Marlon Kimpson.

It is so important to preserve and share these precious stories so they can live on in the hearts and minds of all people. We learn so much from the great people in our past. Times change but the stories endure.

Loved this. Thanks for sharing, 1920's era history is always best told from those who have lived it.
