Oswegatchie River, Section 3 and 4, NY
7/13/2024
Level: visual gauge, level medium/ high
Paddlers: James Malek, Patrick Craft, Tony Giafagna, Phil Lemarche, Jake Schipper, Liam Pervis, David Loewen, Hollis Braun, Michael Hunt
This section of whitewater is some of the biggest and best whitewater ive ever paddled. Massive drops, massive pools, and tons of absolute fun! Section three has some of the best rapids while section 4 has amazing big drops, but both of them are class 4-5 fun. Rainbow Falls is the penultimate drop on section 3, with a ledge drop into a 35-footer, which is oh so sweet. The biggest drop on section 4 is sluice falls, a 3 tiered rapid where you ride the wall. I portaged this one, along with another drop called trash can. This river is a high-class destination, normally brought in only by massive spring rains, so I'm blessed to catch it on a hot summer day!

7/6/2024 Level: 300 cfs release, 3ft on the footer gauge Paddlers: James Malek, Tristan Rush, Pete Rush, Jon Miller The WFT is probably one of my favorite runs ive done yet. 7/5/2024 Level: Summer release level, I don't know the exact CFS Paddlers: James Malek, Tristan Rush, Pete Rush, Jared Mcsteezy The Middle Ocoee is an amazing play run, with one of the best play waves regularly available, Hell Hole. Unfortunately, I couldn't remember the exact rapid names or really define each one from looking online, so decided not to include them. Enjoy the video!

7/2/24 Level: 250 CFS release Paddlers: James Malek, Tristan Rush, Pete Rush, Chris Thompson The Nantahala Cascades is full on fun. It has extremely continuous rapids, all of which drops gradient through some serious mank. Overall I had a great first time here! 4/20/24 Level: 2.45 Paddlers: James Malek, Miles Liechty, Noah Wisdom, Cole Bono, Tristan Rush, Pete Rush Season Opener on the Upper Yough was nothing short of chaos. And I loved it. A beautiful fluffy 2.45 in the sun is the perfect play level, with tons of fun lines opening up. I haven't been on the Upper since October, which is weird since I live 40 minutes from it lol. Still such a great day!

4/7/24 Level: 375 CFS @ Davis wv Paddlers: James Malek, Christina Kossis, Brenton Petrillo, Alex Rittenhouse The Upper Blackwater is a run I've always dreamed of. It's like the Upper Yough on steroids. Massive boofs everywhere, plus a gorgeous put-in overlooking the iconic Blackwater Falls make this run a staple East Coast run. 4/5/24 Level: Visual check-in Paddlers: James Malek, Josh Martin, Issac Creek is a short and fast class 3 creek, with plenty of sweet boofs to satisfy any boater. looks like a crazy run! honestly stoked to see you portaging when needed - shows you're being smart about the risks you take, and awesome to see you crushing the lines you do send!
@@kelseyking9939 thanks Kelsey!! I think portaging judgement honestly should be a skill more practiced, people get hurt too much, and I don’t want any hospital trips lol
Awe, ya didnt show my line at trash can haha

Fuck skip had a sick line at rainbow
@@dl3537 yeah dude, he skipped out of it😂 I prefer the plug though, nice and soft. Not tryna break my back early
The one we've all been waiting for!! Hell yeah man
@@dl3537 it is suchhhh a good run
Nice run, and picking up that owl hoot at the end was sweet too. That second drop must be crazy stout if you're saying you aren't good enough for it. Keep sending it.
@@1stVARifleman thanks man! The entire run was completely sick
Hell yeah!
Wowza ! Was Large Marge the 1st drop? !
@@BBProductions4You yup! I try and make my videos from beginning to end of the run. Large Marge was the very first piece of the river you see!

What a beautiful river, crazy geology, would definitely be serious at higher levels
@@paulrajala8337 bull sluice at high water is one of the most wicked rapids I’ve ever seen (online)
At 6:10 it isn’t a rapid, I was just noting Stekoa creek on river right, a class 4-5 creek that flows into the chattooga. Apologies for the editing mistake
Real solid maneuvering on a challenging run. Clutch bracing. The Gnar really took care of you. Thanks for posting this nice long one.
Be careful next time. Some gators live down there and they get massive
<3 the Audience & Cheers at National Falls
Great video....Stout run!
cant wait to get out there this season
I can’t wait for UY summer days either 😍
That's the river section I cut my kayaking teeth on in the early 80's. I'm retired now and live just outside of Philippi about 20 minutes from Arden. If you need any further beta on that section I've run it anywhere from 200 cfs to 18 ft on the Philippi gauge and I've probably got 400 or more runs on it.
Thanks Paul! I’d love to talk some more about best levels for each line on Moats
nice
Gotta love the Never Ending Slide!
I really like your videos, some crazy stuff and some beautiful runs, the sound of the water in your videos tops the music often found in kayak videos
Glad you like them!
I have run this so many times Its a gem when you can get it! James take care of that cough man!!
Beautiful run. Something that small has the potential to be full of strainers. Sure looked like some of the snags had been cut with a saw.
a bunch of logs had been cut out to be safe for kayakers, but it's bound to pick up more wood. It is definitely one of the more beautiful runs in the area!
Bro I wanna get this someday! Hopefully with you to show me down. 🤙🏻
sprig time allergies suck! looks like a fun run with some spicy holes.
You know it, I’ve been coughing for months now and I don’t feel sick whatsoever, just a terrible cough. In half my recent videos I sound like a 2pack a day smoker lol. It is a great run and this was at a lower level, so I’m sure the higher it gets, there’s much meatier holes
💕Wow💚💚💚💜💜💜💜
Nice Vid ! That Hat trick is hard at release levels in a spud boat !
Thank you man! Yeah that attainment kinda is difficult in the playboat, especially in the kingpin. The bow just wants to sink and it just slows it down lol
BOSS attainment at the end.
Thanks man! Normally I can get it all the way across but the playboat can only do so much some days lol
Not a wise thing to do. One strainer can be fatal and now one to help.
I didn't know PA had drops like that. Excellent boat handling skills!.
Is that a Maine boy I see😂
Not nearly enough water.
I would say this is the perfect amount of water for this creek
Damn good stuff.
Actually this creek dumps into the Cheat a couple of miles above the canyon section. Also it dumps in ABOVE the low head dam at the Albright Power station, which has an absolutely ugly backwash to it at anything above low water. Be forewarned. This video was a relatively low water affair. I've seen vids of much higher runs where the eddies were all but non existent. This looked like a much more manageable level.
Sweet run....please don't say let's go on the river bro....self respect
Looks like a full contact kinda creek!
Oh it’s full on all the way down
Elbow pads mandatory.
Nice creek :)
that was sick!
Thanks Dan!
idk if powder hole is Pennsylvania's stoutest drop, but its defiantly up there
What would you say is? I can’t think of much else lol
@@jamesmalek Goliath on hornbecks creek probably is(it’s currently full of wood tho). Hickstone falls probably is. This shit probably is: ua-cam.com/video/te90Odc-vl0/v-deo.htmlsi=Fkbajk8HO4efYgkC . There’s also some unrun shit that probably goes like bush kill falls that’s definitely stouter
I could understand Goliath being up there, I’ve never seen it in person but i know it has a decently higher success rate than powder. It’s also not a cool drop, like sure it’s huge but it’s just a shitty drop, whereas powder is awesome looking. When I think stout, I consider it’s just general coolness as well as it’s size. hinkston falls is taller but I’d say it’s easier honestly, I would rather do hinkston then powder anyday. If the top of dingmans or bushkill are ever run, I would put those higher than powder for sure, but they’ve never been proven runnable which is the issue. Maybe someday…
Probably the most assinine thing I've seen in all my 50+ years of paddling. I most definitely would not paddle with you, I seriously question your judgement...
I will make a video in the coming days as to why this creek is surprisingly safer than most creeks. There are circumstances that make this creek extremely safe which are not obvious in this video, but trust me, the utmost level of caution is utilized whenever I kayak.
Fucking epic!!!! Congrats on the film fest victory. We cheered and yelled Demshitz!
Where is this creek? Looks Cumberland Plateau like, but I don't recognize the name.
It is in Albright, WV!
220 feet per mile? Did you mean “per minute”? Even then, that’s only 2200 ft in 10 minutes… that’d be less than half a mile. Likely you were going faster… 500+ fpm.
220 Feet per mile gradient. So approximately every mile, the elevation declines by 220 feet. The creek is one mile, so therefore it decreases by 220 feet.
One of the stupidest things I’ve ever seen. Some runs like the upper Gauley are dangerous, but beautiful and demand technique water reading skills. Running the equivalent of a sewer pipe seems dangerous without the beauty or fun.
I will make a video in the coming days as to why this creek is surprisingly safer than most creeks. I think you could've cleaned Seven Foot
Oh I bet I could’ve as well, but honestly the risk-reward ratio was just not worth it for me. The video doesn’t do it justice, but the siphon of death from the log there made me pretty worried
I gotcha. Keep in mind that was coming from a guy who has only run it once (at 6" lol)
