A runners eye view of the Great Knaresborough Bed Race 2024 After the bitter disappointment of our bed breaking down mid race in 2023 this year we were back to give it everything and it didn't disappoint.

Chasing a podium finish post illness - Hooded Horse 10k 2024
Переглядів 2747 місяців тому
The Hooded Horse is a 10k trail race on the edge of the North York Moors National Park. Not technically a fell race, but with close to 400m of ascent its as good as, and included in the Knaresborough Striders Fell Champs. After coming 2nd her last year I'd wanted to really challenge for top spot this year. However, after only recently recovering from illness I was still finding my way back to f...
Post Covid Running - Ilkley Moor Fell Race
Переглядів 1 тис.9 місяців тому
The 2024 Ilkley Moor Fell Race. After starting the year off with the Captain Cook Fell Race on new years day I started to build back fitness again until Covid, a Lung Infection and pulling my intercostal muscles took me out for 5 weeks. This was my first race back, and probably too soon, but I was desperate to be racing again. Although a long way from where I wanted to be, and had been previous...

3 Days Fastpacking the West Highland Way - running documentary

Myself and Craig decided to #fastpack the #westhighlandway over three days, this is our story. The West Highland Way is one of the best known through hikes in the UK covering 96miles from Milngavie on the edge of Glasgow all the way to Fort William in the Scottish Highlands. Traversing the length of Loch Lomdon through the Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park before following the A82 north...
Unexplored Adventures: Via Ferrata & Trail Running in Julian Alps
Переглядів 315Рік тому
During a family holiday in the Slovenian Julian Alps we visited Kranjska Gora and I had the opportunity to run up something pointy. I took the opportunity to take on a 20km loop up Mount Špik, with small sections of via ferrata and a snow field close to the summit. I had no technical equipment and was a little nervous on how it was gong to turn out but I the end it made for a great little adven...
Escape the Ordinary: 24hrs Fastpacking Adventure on the Six Dales Trail

With a weekend off myself and Craig decided to Fastpack the Six Dales Trail, a 66km long distance trail through the Nidderdale AONB from Middleham in the North to Otely in the South, with an overnight Bivi just outside Pateley Bridge. It was one of the hottest days of the year do far, and the afternoon heat didn’t make for the most pleasant running, however the early morning running the followi...
Harrogate Summer Race League - Wetherby

The final standard race in the Harrogate District Summer Race League, hosted by Wetherby Runners. Last year I improved as the race series went on and had an absolute blast. This year my motivation and speed seemed to be going the wrong way as I have been trying to balance speed with increasing the miles on trails (the equation is not working!). Another attempt to crack the top 10, this time at the Beamsley Beacon Fell Race hosted by Wharfdale Harriers, setting off from Addingham on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales. The heat made for hard running, but the views from the summit were sublime and made for a glorious summer evening fell race. Knaresborough Bed Race 2023 (heartbreak edition)

After setting a team PB last year and a very strong performance in training we were pumped for the 2023 Knaresborough Bed Race - however it wasn't to be our year due to a bed fault - such is life. Please that our time with the fault still put us in 10th (unofficial) - only 365 days to wait to have another bash :-)

2nd instalment of the Harrogate District Summer Race League, a circa 10k road loop on the edge of Harrogate hosted by Harrogate Harriers. I was very pleased with my 12th place finish at the first instalment in Knaresborough, but after a hard fell race a couple of days prior better this position was always gong to be a stretch and I was very pleased to only drop a couple of places and finish 14t...
Charlesworth Chase Fell Race - can I finally crack the top ten (plus finish line pint)
Переглядів 553Рік тому
The Charlesworth Chase is a category BS fell race in the Yorkshire Dales put on by Wharfdale Harriers. The out and back route starts outside the Craven Arms in Appletreewick and runs down to the River Wharfe before heading up through the woods and on to the open moorland. On hitting Simons Seat the route turns round heads back the same way. An extra quirk to this fell race is the requirement to...

Sunrise to Sunset | an ultramarathon trail race against the sun on the Lyke Wake Walk
Awesome. I ran this in 2018 and I intend to return in 2025. One of the best finishes to an ultra I have ever seen. Studley did distract me from my sore feet and quads.
Really enjoyed this. Gives a good sense of the effort involved in a 3 day fastpack
Thanks 🙏 appreciate the comment. Just back from a 5 day fastpack of the c2c which was even more challenging! Hopefully have a video of that one soon.
You missed Conic hill! The best views and the actual route of the WHW
🤫 wanted to protect the legs, but don't suppose it made that much difference 😅
Brilliant mate well done . Ace effort . I just did the thing last month in 67hours but destroyed my feet in the process , it’s all about enjoying the ride 🤣👍well done ✔️
Cheers pal, it's all good type two fun, and a bit of retrospective pleasure ;-) congrats on your effort 💪👍
Why? Your'e in one of the world's most scenic places and you see none of it because you run through it. You might as well run on a motorway hard shoulder. Masochistic tendencies are not healthy or proving anything
Bollocks. You see it all
Well done on the race it looked tough 😅😅 Your knees take a battering every time I watch your channel haha, its mad how much cameras flattens all the hills and then I look to the side gradient and its -36% 😂😂
Super video and the most fun race to watch! Loved the river crossing at the end. Well done Daniel. How did you sometimes film it from the front too? Was the camera on your head?
Thanks Olga :-) it's without doubt the biggest race in the calendar and everything else has to be worked around this. No headcam footage this time, just two GoPros, one on the front and one on the rear
I have just stumbled across your channel and I absolutely loved that, thank you so much for making it and so sorry about the fall, you make very similar videos to us and I can't wait to follow along with your journey, you look pretty speed too 🔥🔥keep up the good work
Awesome run! Incredible speed and consistency. Was that you gasping on the run in to the river crossing? In awe 😮
Cheers Paul, pleased with that, you guys must be pleased with your race as well 💪💪. Nope, surprisingly it was Tom Wilson, he was clearly pushing harder than me 🤣
Ha ha he was spent! Not surprised.
Great video not heard of this race before, was wondering for 10+mins why the girl was wearing a life jacket 😂 then it all made sense!
One of those quirky events that's been going years but such good fun to take part in, not sure if the river crossing at the end is a welcome.cool down or not 😅🛌🏞️
great even seen myself recording you guys starting going past the caffe and over the bridge looked as fit starting as you did finishing [ok the person one the bed did}
Definitely wasn't feeling fit coming back down 🤣
@@DM_RUNNING at 2.19 to 2.20 you can see me and my wife recording you guys so soon as i get it sorted i will show you a difrent shot do you know your time how the hell you ran that hill i will never know took us all our time walking it great video thanks for posting and we hope again to come up from licolnshire to watch next year ps can you tell me your float number so i can find it at the castle photos i got many thanks again
Think we did it in 13:27 (club pb by about 20s). It's an event well worth travelling for, think there is a team that comes over from Germany every year to take part 🤯. We were bed #3 (x-ray), a little less effort went in to the decoration than the training ;-)
@@DM_RUNNING great photos of you guys coming in give me a few days and i will put some together on here i was there in 69 when peny pot vs menwith ran the pto for penypot was my brothers god farther dam wish you had wone geting something against brooks wining all the time any way thanks for replying and promis will put what photos and vid i have of you guys up soon as i can tc and please congratulate all the team till next year my friend
Brilliant video and even better running! You smashed it this year lads, and did the club proud 💙💛
Cheers Craig, pleased with that, even more so after last year! You guys must be cuffed with your time to 💪🛌
Thanks for thinking doing this. Nice to see it from this POV. (PS There I am: @ 10:15 extreme right of picture!) BTW... are you actually swimming in the water there or are your feet able to touch the bottom? Can't quite tell. Looks like a little of both?
Thanks, glad you liked it 🙂 you can touch the bottom for about half of the river, so a bit of both, but depends which side of the he'd your on
@@DM_RUNNING and how tall you are of course. 😉
Brilliant video. Well done. Such an amazing effort. A brilliant event every year!
Cheers pal, really is, nothing like it 😁
What a day. Great video Mate. 🛏️🏃🏻♂️
Great running, same time next year 😉
Fantastic race there,I wasn't expecting the river at the end tho 😲😲
Cheers, that's the best bit, cools you down at the end ;-)
My friends and I just done this route in 3 days and had a fantastic time! We also stayed at Ambleside and Eskdale YHA and I think even had lunch at the same places you did :D Thank you for the inspirational video, it helped a lot with planning the trip. Next time I'll try and copy the WHW one ;)
Nice one 💪👍, it's a great route, glad the video was useful for you.
Mega effort - well done!
Cheers pal 👍
Great effort, shame about the fall. Looks like a great run, I need to keep an eye out for that one next year. 👍🏼
Cheers Ted, it's a harder race than quite a few of the fell races I've done, great fun 🤪
Well done for pushing through and giving it your best shot! It looked like a very challenging course from both a terrain and elevation perspective. I hope your knee is ok now!
Thanks Chloe, definitely a tough course but all good fun. 🤪
Sitting in the van just outside Valencia, wet for two days in a row, bit of a treat to see Yorkshire in the sun. Great effort, fall looked tough, keep it up. Weather changes tomorrow, back into the 20's and full sun. We feel for you. 😊 D
Thanks. Fingers crossed weather turns and then holds for you, been pretty poor here but first signs of slowly getting nicer
Another great video. Awesome scenery, cool music choice. Sorry about the fall ... still had superb pace after that.
Cheers 😀, I was done in without the fall really, nice excuse to ease off (I cut the bit where I was going really slow 😅)
Ouch that fall!
Yep, that's hurt!!
Great effort, It was my Hardest 10k to date, hopefully a little faster next year.
Thanks, it's a tough course that's for sure! Not sure if it's easier or not knowing what's coming 😅
True, had I done a recon before had might not have turned up 😅
Holy s**t, you were doing 7-8mph up Shaw lane, and over 13mph down the finishing straight... I think I'll leave road racing well alone and stick to the trails LOL!
Great to watch. Having done it myself a couple of times you captured the highs and lows brilliantly. Thank you
Glad you enjoyed it, it's a great route but like you say, lots of ups and downs 👍
Surely there is a way to add a profile to the device?
Don't think so
That looked brutal! I must put it on my radar for next year. Well done, that was a cracking effort. What do you have lined up next? Great video. 👍🏼
Thanks Ted, it's a great race, has to be the biggest one around these parts, but brutal like you say! Other than the hooded horse in a few weeks not a lot lined up, you got much planned?
Absolutely class running, you haven’t lost your skillz in the hillz
Cheers Craig 😀
Literal Blood and Sweat there! Good Work! 👏
yep, the full works!
That looked like a very tough but nice course. Very nice video.
Thanks, spot on, it's a great course but very tough!!
Great video, Daniel. I hope you fully recover soon. It took me ages to recover after Xmas.
thanks@@OlgasBritishFellsslowly on the mend, its a bugger for getting over though isn't it!!
How did you get to Blair Atholl after you left the car at Aviemore?
Direct train, although not that regular thus leaving the car there to get back after the run rather than having to wait round for ages
very cool man !!
Thank you 👍😊
Love the stats on the screen! What system is that? Strava?
Just stats from my Garmin watch then overlaid using some video editing software (Garmin virb edit)
Well done Daniel, are you doing the commondale clart this sunday ? I'm planning on doing it myself
Cheers. Unfortunately I'm not able to make it this Sunday had been looking forward to running it again. Good luck, not sure if you've done it before or not but the start/first hill is a bugger, straight up from the off!!
great vid :) :)
Thank you 🙏😊
What an incredible looking race and views! Great video too
Cheers Gez, really is a great race in a stunning part of the country
Well done Dan, great start to year!
Thanks Rory, surprised not to see you on the start line
Battle of the cameramen. Love it!
Haha, yep, I got this one for once 😅
Great video and well done. I was the NFaT runner that you fell in front of near the finish, typically, I stopped filming just as you did! Great footage, what camera were you using? I can’t keep mine steady when racing hard! 🤣
Cheers pal, didn't realise you were with NFaT, you're Ripon when you beat us at bed race 😂 I use a GoPro Hero 10 with a head mount, nearly said it's easier on your head when I went past you just before I stacked it. You feel like a proper numpty wearing it but makes it easier to go full pelt. (endurance battery normally lasts the whole race as well, so no need to stop/start
😂 I run 1st claim under Ripon Runners and 2nd claim under NFaT. Due to this I tend to run under Ripon on road races and Nidderdale for trail events. Ah, good idea with the head mount, I wondered why you were running with a head torch on, it was obviously your camera. 😂
Need to have a proper look at NFaT, seen that your putting a longer fell race on later in the year that looks good 👍
Awesome mate! You beat me. I best get training and also making videos of races 🤔
Cheers pal. If that's you untrained I hate to see what you'd do with a bit of focused effort 💪
Great to see you back on the fells, ive missed your POV videos. Very well done.
Thanks Brian, glad someone was enjoying them, hope to get to a few more races in the next few months
Fantastic achievement mate and a great production. Hopefully you were able to reflect on the run and take away some great memories. The WHW is very tough in places but equally as beautiful. The stretch along Loch Lomond does take a bit of your soul.
Cheers pal. Definitely some retrospective pleasure in having done it. That final stretch along Loch Lomond is one to forget though 😂
Brilliant effort! Well done 👏👏👏
Thanks 🙏😊
Ace video! Like watching one of the Saw films or those odd Japanese game shows where the winner is whomever can take the most pain. Enjoyable? 😂
😂😂 sounds about right, isn't that what ultra running is all about though
My question is: Have you run out of Craigs for your next adventure?!
😂😂 We'll have to focus recruiting on Craig's now for Striders
Cheers on that effort! I quite enjoyed the voice overs for context, it really put the video together. On a personal note, the shots from leaving Glen Nevis really brought me back to when I visited. Thanks for taking me along!
Thanks, glad you liked it. Glen Nevis on a day like that really is stunning.
Really enjoyed watching this, thanks Dan. Well done to you and Craig. I hope you don’t mind me saying but it was good to see how tough you found it. There’s hope for the rest of us. Linda
Glad you liked it. We all suffer on these things ;-)
Beautiful trails! Great achievement and a fantastic video.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it! :-)
Well done to both. Inspiring stuff & great to watch. It makes me realise that I can go out for a short trot even though I am a bit puffed after a days work! Keep the content coming 👏🏼
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it 👍
