OMG, Prairie du Chen is a fantastic stop! Easy access, (2) loaner cars, good steak restaurant and hotel, and probably a descent place to snooze at the FBO.
You know your stops! Spot on!
I like the split screen for the landing. Are you camping at north 40?
Thanks! It took some effort to get the two videos synced up! South 40!
Any food vendors setup??? Showed up Saturday with my family in 2012 with no vendors until Monday. It was a hot, humid, stormy week. We’ll drive, camp with a/c and no kids next time.
Quite a bit of food vendors set up over the weekends. Not sure prior to that.
Is the exhibits up yet over by the plaza? Also hopefully get to see you tomorrow take care!
Some are set up, others still in the works. Nothing official yet but plenty of people already looking around. I’ll be here!
PSA. Tarp footprint should only extend to your tent edge. Otherwise, any water will completely pool under the tent, then break out the paddle.
It’s a good tip. Or… you can put your tent stakes through the tarp, which doubles as drainage points.
That only works if the tire is perfectly round.
🤔
Very interesting!😊
Glad you think so!
Stay safe!
Always
Raton is rat in Spanish
Yes it is!
🎉🎉🎉
Fly safe! Show low ,have a minute or check on the Outpost? At least do a flyover
Done, all good
Happy trails to you gentlemen!
I knew Joe, I was his friend for many years. I came to youtube looking for his old flight videos, and found far more than that. Thank You for putting up the wonderful tribute.
He was a great friend to many, may his soul rest in peace.
Very interesting coul you add a link to where one can check out that tool?
Great idea, thanks. I’ll post in the description.
I Enjoy your videos. Have Fun! Wish I was going.
There's my baby!
Still being well cared for too, of course.
What day will you be at Oshkosh?
Sat-Thur/Fri
Sorry
Hope to see you there!
Aghhhh quite literally see everyone soon! I love the cutting boards vs absorbent plywood! Adding LED solar lights to my checklist NOW! TY for the reminder! Great video as always!
Looking forward to it!
Sorry for your loss
Bottom plug probably fouled.
20 yr old harness had high resistance which lead to corrosion / carbon tracking at the cap.
have it, love it - not that there's not many other components that determine shimmy - another great video
Thanks for watching!
I wonder how this compares to the Lord .
I think it’s far and above, not only because it’s serviceable, but it’s hydraulic / temperature compensating vs just a rubber bumper.
Sure wish they made one for the Beech's
It Zoe very interesting only 2 likes including grandma
You are doing what I asked in other Cessna fourms and never got a reply. For a review like you just did. I did everything but the shims and a new damper.... awaiting for your flight test
I wish there were an easier solution to the shimmy problem. Unfortunately it seems every aspect of the system needs to be addressed. So far my results are good. I’ll post more asap.
I’ve done several tests now but haven’t had time to put all the video together yet. Last piece to the puzzle seems to be wheel balancing, which I just did. More to come when able…
how where the new brakes? did it remedy your issue? didn't get spongey? and did you stick with the old MC.
Stock master cylinder(s), new brakes are amazing. Very effective, requires a much different approach to stopping. Instead of firm application if needed, now it’s just brush the brakes as needed. Definitely remedied the issue of leaking wheel cylinders of course. Highly recommend, and a perfect pairing to larger wheels if that’s ever a thought.
I'm very surprised that McFarlane calls it a "Shimmy DAMPENER".
Ya know, I had the same thought too. But then I found it that way in a Cessna manual also… 🤷♂️🤓

Enjoyed watching this one with my 16 YO who’s working on her Private Pilots license. Always something new to learn following 112 Adventures! Thanks for sharing! Well done 👏
Glad you enjoyed it!
Fill the damper with 80w gear oil.
It’s an interesting idea, albeit no legal path exists for such a mod. One concern that arose when discussing the thicker fluid previously was rigidity. One could argue that the higher viscosity would not damper better but have the unintended consequence of dampening worse due to a less compliant fluid.
Try wiggling the scissors with your hand…. If it wiggles, consider the McFarlane Torque Link Kit…. New bushings, bolts, shims, etc. had the same problem and the kit fixed it once and for all. It is a common problem but agree that isn’t how it was designed to operate…. Might even risk firewall damage if it goes on long enough or it’s bad enough…Good luck….
It’s a good suggestion. What’s odd is that the torque links had some play in them before the larger wheel was installed and had very little shimmy, if at all. During the landing gear overhaul/upgrade, all the bushings, links, hardware etc., were replaced and the play was eliminated. Once the bigger wheel went on it had shimmy so bad it could rival a clapped out flight school 172!
Make sure it's unpainted too
Absolutely!
We had all 3 cessnas ar the flight school i work at have severe shimmying and i just replaced the bushings in the torque links with an FAA PMA kit and all shimmying went away for all of fhem
I think the kit was made by mcfarlene highly recommend them, some of the bushings were a pain in the ass to remove as they were the originals but I could def tell there was wear and play in them.
Yep, all the bushings and hardware have been replaced. What threw me a curve was that there was play in the links before the big wheel install and the shimmy was minimal at its worst. Once the larger tire went it, it was so bad you’d think it was a flight school airplane, even after all the play had been shimmed out!
Can I ask for it to be not 95 degrees at 5 in the morning?
Who ordered summer?
Try letting a little air out of the tire. My R182 is much less susceptible to shimmy w a few less psi in the tire. 3 to 5 psi less. But, my tire is much smaller and the pressure probably much higher than your big tire.
Let out a little today. Went from 30 to 27.5… better… maybe
40 Years of Aviation experience I've never heard of anyone's airplane Catching Fire has anyone else experienced it a fueling fire
Very interesting. That could be a video in itself, albeit a different category altogether.
grounding vs. bonding ..... these are separate issues. When fueling is taking place then bonding is required. The exhaust outlet is not a good place to 'bond' . The POH will tell the correct place to bond. The build up of static electricity during a fuelling operation is a very real threat that is not understood by so many in the GA community.
Using a continuity meter to test the quality of a low resistance ground path is like trying to measure bearing clearances with a plastic ruler. Besides, we don't need a low resistance path to dissipate a static charge. The only thing we care about is having the fuel nozzle and the filler opening on the tank at the same potential when they first meet. If the path we choose has a higher resistance then it simply takes a few microseconds longer to dissipate the charge. I used to dissipate static charges into doorknobs with my finger, which is a terrible conductor.
I worked at a top 10 midwest fbo for almost 30 years, Gotta say there were a lot of times i didnt ground due to no lugs in the ramp, that was also fueling big avgas loads like DC6s too. Airport said every time they bored a hole it weakened the ramp.... at any rate, I was thinking that fire aint gonna do it a hellava lotta good either lol... All it takes is that one time. As far as bonding the truck and plane. I always looked for a spot that was rather scuffed up or scratched like where the tow bar hooks as you said, never used the exhaust and when training advised new guys against that. I think the exhaust is titanium and has a tendency to become brittle with age as it hardens.. might be wrong. Great video
I haven't grounded an airplane in 40 years.
That could be a video all in itself. Albeit a completely different topic.
Usually there would be a ground but the exhaust flange has a gasket separating the manifold. There are nuts and star lock washers (one time use) on the metal flange side that are torqued onto the studs. There should be electrical connection to ground. Probably just enough resistance so it doesn’t show a short.
I've had this argument with several ground handlers / fuelers - the exhaust isn't a great place to ground. They still insist on using it. At the same time, 100s upon 100s of refuels with a ground handler grounding via the exhaust... and to this point my plane hasn't exploded once.
Thanks for sharing Glen. Maybe I should send this to some FBOs I know
Millions of cars refueled every day with no grounding wire in sight and they don't explode either.
@@JosephHHHo cars aren’t flying through the air building up static electricity. They are literally grounded non stop. Also by touching the metal nozzle to the metal car fuel filler neck, it discharges any electrical static that might be present.
@@112_adventures and how many of us are doing airborne refueling???
@@JosephHHHo not enough of us to be relevant to the General Aviation crowd. Those that are are using pretty sophisticated means however that include bonding the aircraft to each other as part of the fueling apparatus.
a year later; no update, no availability
Frustrating for sure. Seems there are better options if willing to deal with the installation process.
My EI 30Combo install came out of the shop about a month ago, with the old connectors. EGT #3 stopped working, so I'm definitely going to go through with these new connectors. What is that crimper you are using?
If you order the kit from EI it comes with the ferrules and connectors. Just give them a call, it’s not expensive.
Great idea!
💜shimmy damper💜 Very interesting!
This is a great idea. I have a CGR30 in my C182M and intermittent sensors are a chronic problem. I liked the concept of the older EI OLCs but they have had their issues. Each annual and some oil changes I double check them. I'm going to check and see if a DB style standard density pin will fit in the one I have, otherwise, I'll seriously consider replacing all of them. By the way, I looked at how you designed your panel on the other video. I did something very similar using the Cessna Parts Manual drawing as a basis for determining the fit. The drawings in the parts manual are actually to scale once you correct the aspect ratio which I did by direct measurement. The CAD system I used was FreeCAD which I liked better than the EAA's Solidworks offering. It produced .STL files which drove the laser cutter to directly cut 0.090 6061-T6 AL used to support the Dynon Skyview HDX system now in the airplane. I'm also going to go with your dual shunt system to monitor battery and alternator flow since I have two shunts in on the bench right now. That is a great idea. Your means of setting up a secondary breaker panel is just what I've been looking for, too. I took out 27# of wire with my install, and there's more cleanup to do. I haven't touched the main switch panel, but I like the breakers you used and the switches are intriguing. Very nice Job.
Thanks for the great comment. Luckily I've never had much of any issues with the EI connectors but I have broken a few strands by over torquing the set screws. This new system is amazing and while a direct solder connection is ideal, I like how this allows for quickly removing the item/connection if need be. For as many of them as I have installed, I've had zero issues but wanted to try the ferrules out, so I did it on my fuel flow sensor first as it was easiest to access. Thanks for watching the other videos too!
Very interesting!
