2 hours of footage cut down to 15 min. 6 hours to edit it all together, way too much time on the editing tricks. See if you can spot them all! Finally made it to an Arizona Pilots Association monthly fly in and cracked the code on Final Cut Pro's new Magnetic Mask feature.

Good day, i have 5 springs two of them they are shorter, you why ? Regard
Just what I needed. Gotta replace this on a flight school airplane tomorrow morning and the manual is absolutely no help lol. Thanks
This design should be updated and scaled to handle two Pratt&Whitney 1000 horsepower turboprops. Absolutely insane. In a good way.
Humorously, hearing the old Grimes rotating beacon whirring was a good reminder to walk back to the plane and turn off the master. Not that I've left the batt on recently, and have LED beacons, or anything...
The Birddog has the coffee grinder beacon. I remember once many years ago sitting in a restaurant above the terminal in Montgomery Field, San Diego and looking out to see the beacon on. I ran fast… But that said, modern LED nav lights left on all the time have the same benefits but less draw.
What kind of beacon light do you have? You use the original cessna flasher unit with it?
Whelen LED beacon, no external driver or flasher unit.
I love how poor Arizona is. You show those peasants!! Love the video!
I’ve had one for a couple of years now and really like it. I use it to organize all of our fuel sampling stuff and oil containers. I also used rivnuts to install the organizer.
Great job. I noticed your door seal looks original. You probably never sat in the back in winter on a flight like here in Michigan. God there was a cold draft coming in on my P model. Will wait till spring/summer to address that.
You are correct, I’ve never sat in the back of my own airplane. I think there’s a quote about that somewhere lol, oh and I definitely haven’t flown in Michigan winter temps.
Knitting/ crochet supplies
You did a great job on this video, I’m getting one of these for my 182P.
Thanks, You won’t regret it.
Can I ask about your process for prepping before paint? You bead blasted after that what did you clean the parts with, then prime with, and then use as paint? Did you use a one stage paint or did you just use a rattle can?
Would a piece of rod have worked? Bend both ends of it?
Thought about it. Can still do it anytime, really only need the bend at the top though
Was thinking that you'd put in a nail and then add threads to the end. Nice job in editing out all the cursing most of us would have done in process. Looks clean as can be-
Happy new year. Keep the great videos coming
Thanks, happy new year to you too!
Another great video and story! Thanks for sharing, Looks like a cool place to fly into.
Nice little repair. Probably only took a whole weekend!
Ya you’re not wrong. It’s a good thing I had nothing else to do. 😉
I remember flying in to the Grapevine strip in N92112 when it was graded dirt in the 1990's
Well done 👍
Thanks Jim!
It is interesting that you mention Bird Dogs and George, his hanger is across from mine at DVT. Good guy, need to go fly in that "dog"
Nice video. Lake Havasu also has a hidden airstrip near the lake that’s also paved, but restricted last time I flew over.
Contracted to fly into Grapevine in the late 1980’s for the forestry service. It was not as well serviced back then and was a fun landing and takeoff challenge. Thanks for the video.
That is one clean machine!
Love flying into Grapevine! I might go on Saturday if I can. I am at DVT with George. He is pretty close to my hangar.
I like it too!
That scenery is epic and your video quality is top tier. Cool to hear you talk about the sense of community among enthusiasts... it's the same in automotive, you strike up a convo about a particular model you both like, and you have an instant friend. Thanks for taking us along for the flight!!
Sum 41?
The music?
@ yeah the instrumental?
@@tTenKaypretty sure it’s not
Cool editing. Thanks for taking us along👍
I have panel envy! Do you have an autopilot? I fly out of Marana, KAVQ. My buddy Zeke flies up there to Grapevine. I need to drop in there one of these days.
Thanks! No autopilot though, and the radios are kinda sad. Oh and could use an IFR gps too. Someday..
Did that say RESTRICTED on the runway?
It is technically a private strip, but public use has been granted as long as you meet the requirements. Basically don’t trash the place, leave it better than you found it.
I flew in there in about 1974-75 on a charter from KPHX. 2 men with only one briefcase. We landed on the then dirt strip and there was a black limo waiting for us. The 2 men got out and were gone a few mins and then returned to the airplane. We then flew back to KPHX. I didn't know who they were until later on. I know nothing, I know nothing, and I saw nothing.....
😮 … who were they??!!
The Birddog has come home! 🙌
Indeed
Sounds like our run in with Xyla in WI.
Ya that was fun. Same kinda feeling, so hard to share the experience with others. I call it lightning in a bottle, you just can’t capture it to save for later. Gotta be there.
A good way to tighten that pulley is to use an oil filter wrench that has the rubber strap type. Hold it with that and tighten. The car oil filter strap wrenches are like 15 bucks on amazon but work wonders on anything round that you have to hold.
Ya it didn’t work for me, bad arm didn’t help the situation either. Had some footage about it but it didn’t make the cut. My Birddog buddy said he’d come help but was nowhere to be found when the work was being done. Oh wait… just saw your profile name 👀😆
Got a question . You say you don’t use additives because although good for motor not good for starter. Doesn’t engine trump starter money wise?
Good question. Let’s break it down just a bit further; we’re talking about the starter ADAPTER, not the starter motor itself. That said, there are some other factors at play, and I had to cut a lot out of video because me talking to a camera for 30 min was bad enough for me to watch, can’t imagine anyone else would stick around to watch. Key takeaways; if you live in an a dry climate and fly often, corrosion build up on the cam is not an issue. If you live in an area where engines do corrode easily, the best thing you can do is fly often. If you can’t fly regularly, proper storage of the engine can mitigate most of the issues associated with non use. Also, continentals aren’t prone to cam lobe corrosion the way lycomings are, so it’s almost a moot point, unless the airplane is subjected to said harsh environment. Best thing you can do, fly often. In a perfect world the starter adapter will make it to engine TBO. If not… you might get stuck somewhere.
@ thanks
early models had serious wing problems. We started on a wing mod at Evergreen air center, but it was canceled. The parts are more than likely still out in the desert.
C130A,. so this has the t56 engine still?
Not sure but I think so!
original C-130A had Allison T-56-9 series engines as I recall
A kick back during start broke the spring on my 182P before my time. Spring only was just replace. Adapter had 3 years on it since new. Could you list what control/wiring items you loosen ? Pull fwd 4" or moved left?
Oh bummer. Do you know if you have the new style or classic old style adapter? Either way, really only tilted the engine about 4 inches. Jacked up from the hoist point and let the front hang down touching the mount. Removed all 4 mount bolts completed. Disconnected throttle cable and loosened mixture. Prop had enough slack to leave along but I disconnected it anyway.
1980 hours on Big Herk !
So whats the story with this C130 is it flyable or not?
As a c130 depot repair mechanic, looking at the video, it could be. It looks like there is a wing spar repair being done on the right outer wing. There have been several planes we have done that repair to at my work. The interior shows modifications to the instrument panel I see on "newer" planes. Just needs time to get finished.
It’s the oldest flying A model. Currently undergoing heavy maintenance known as a “C check”
USCG workhorse during my time serving ('83-'87).
Yep! even in 1974. Funny that he didn't even mention the Coast Guards extensive use of this aircraft model.
I was friends with the man who was the crew chief on the c130 that flew Kennedys motor cade into Dallas the day he was killed,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
C130A's only had 3 blade props, must have upgraded props
Many if not most C-130As were refitted with the Hamilton Standard 4 blade.
@@rokker3416 The AC-130A at plant #6 has the proper blades and guns
I dont think I’ve ever seen a 3 bladed C-130 configuration
There are a few hanging around in museums. The AC-130A that used to be outside at the NMUSAF is 3 bladed.
Three blades and no radome on the nose
MFG date of 1954. To put it in perspective, this aircraft was manufactured 9 years after the end of WWII and is still working. Thank you for the video!
Born the same year as me but it doesn't seem to have slowed down any?
The Boeing Dash 80 (707) had it first flight just prior to this. Both different designs and markets and a very short time after WWll
Be an A&P they said. It'll be fun they said! I'm not a Cont. fan but I like your content. Good job Jason!
(Added to your video) battery procedure: Connecting the battery, do the positive first, then negative. Disconnecting the battery, disconnect the negative before the positive. Appreciate these videos as they come in handy when actually having to do the work.
Good call on the battery procedure
You did so much in 12 minutes!
So much
Very interesting!
I’m glad you think so!
Perhaps I’ll show up for the 2nd annual pie in the sky. I’ll bring my Cessna 1xx. I just need to solve xx.
Xx solved easily by adding 82 behind the 1
POV how I feel trying to cold start my turbo civic
